Recast Your Favorite Movies - 09 Edition! - Page 3

I'm trying to create Die Hard '09

All of I got so far:

Robert Downey Jr as John McClane
Clive Owen as Hans Gruber

With the Black guy from Derrick Comedy as Argyle and David Caruso as Dick Thornberg
post #102 of 862
Doesn't having Owen as Gruber ruin the physiognomy that is central to the role? His ruthlessness and threatening presence is supposed to come out of nowhere. With Owen, you'd probably give that guy a wide berth even if he wasn't surrounded by guys with guns.
Make Christoph Waltz Gruber and you're good to go. Downey as McClane is brilliance, Ed.
I like the way this man thinks.

And get me Carla Gugino to play Holly.

And now, a sure to be VERY awesome one:

LETHAL WEAPON (2010). Directed by Edgar Wright. Written by Robert Mark Kamen, based on a screenplay by Shane Black.

Jeremy Renner as Sgt. Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson)

Don Cheadle as Sgt. Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover)

Michael C. Hall as Mr. Joshua (Gary Busey)

David Morse as General Peter McAllister (Mitch Ryan)

Eric Roberts as Michael Hunsaker (Tom Atkins)
Angela Bassett as Trish Murtaugh (Darlene Love)
Fabulous. Just.....FABULOUS.

I especially love the idea of Michael C. Hall as Mr. Joshua. A down and dirty fight between him and Jeremy Renner would get my ticket money.

I'm also 100% behind the Renner casting. The Hurt Locker is pretty much his audition for Lethal Weapon 2010.

Throw in Simon Pegg in a cameo in the Ed O'Ross role and Nick Frost as Endo and it's a masterpiece.

My Kelly's Heroes redo was awesome. Too bad none of you have seen it.

Anyways, keeping with Shane Black:

The Last Boy Scout

Timothy Olyphant as Joe Hallenbeck (Bruce Willis)

Jamie Foxx as Jimmy Dix (Damon Wayans)

David Koechner as Shelly Marcone (Noble Willingham)

Jay Karnes as Mr. Milo (Taylor Negron)

And throw in Lindsey Lohan in the Halle Berry role and a cameo by Simon Pegg as the guy fucking Hallenbeck's wife.
I'd say Ryan Reynolds or Bradley Cooper (either under a heavy mask of stubble) for Hallenbeck, honestly.

RESERVOIR DOGS (1972)

Clint Eastwood as Mr. White

Roy Scheider as Mr. Orange

Warren Beatty as Mr. Blonde

George Segal as Mr. Pink
David Carradine as Nice Guy Eddie

Jack Palance as Joe Cabot

John Cazale as Mr. Brown
A re-do of Johnny Guitar.

Charlize Theron as Vienna

Renee Zellwegger as Emma Small

Thomas Jane as Johnny 'Guitar' Logan

Justin Timberlake as Dancin' Kid
Sam Elliott as John McIvers
William Forsythe as Bart Lonergan.
Hunter: I like your re-cast of 'Reservoir Dogs', but may I suggest Robert Mitchum for Joe?

Mayor Vaughn - Michael Tucker

Further thoughts on Die Hard '09

Ellis - Will Arnett
Special Agents Johnson - Jeremy Piven/Xhibit (Rehash of their time in RockNRolla)
Al Powell - Craig Robinson
Deputy Chief Dwayne Robinson - Dylan Baker

And I'd stick with Olyphant as Hallenbeck. Olyphant can play broken down and seedy very well.
Walt Disney's Artificial Intelligence (1966, Walt Disney Pictures)

Artie - Ian Weighill

Joe Boyfriend - Tommy Kirk

Monica Swinton - Barbara Harris

Henry Swinton - Dean Jones

Professor Ned Brainard - Fred MacMurray

Dr. Know - David Tomlinson

Ripley - Carla Gugino

My knowledge of Fred MacMurray and David Tomlinson inform me that your AI recast is clever and accurate, but I simply have no idea who theose kids are.

As for Hallenbeck, I considered both of those guys, but picked Olyphant because he's much more skeevy and violent. One of my favorite thing about that movie is that Hallenbeck is an unlikeable piece of shit. And I probably should have just used Slater's avatar for Koechner's pic, because that's the really good one there.

Jaws is always tough and never satisfying. I haven't heard any recast that approaches the original (well, people tend to have a handle on the Mayor pretty easily).

Craig Robinson as Al Powell might be my favorite so far. That's great.

ETA: Nice on Aliens. I'd make Arnett Burke, make Rob Riggle Hudson, and I'll go with Lance Reddick as Bishop

Ian Weighill was the older boy in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and was honestly the only age-appropriate actor I could come up with. But how do you not know Tommy Kirk?!?
I'd second Rob Riggle as Hudson.

Stanley Kubrick's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

Raoul Duke: Peter Sellers

Dr. Gonzo: Marlon Brando
Out-there Riggs suggestion that just popped into my head and probably doesn't actually work: Will Arnett

I was going to say either him or Palance for that role. Would love to see Eastwood tear into either one about fuckin' Charlie Chan.

Personally the idea of a psycho Beatty as Vic Vega and a younger, neurotic George Segal as Mr. Pink is just too fucking awesome for words.

I'm considering also doing an 80s version of it too.

That Fear and Loathing idea is GENIUS, Hocken! HOLY SHIT!
My guess would be that the Kubrick Fear & Loathing would have occured in the early to mid 70s.

With George Kennedy as the affectionate cop, Jodie Foster as the Streisand artist, and Ellen Burstyn as the threatened waitress!
Guest Cameo of Jack Nicholson as Sven: The Hotel Clerk and Randy Quaid as the Hitchiker.

Also:

John Carpenter's Moon (1985)

Sam Bell: Jeff Bridges
GERTY: Jaime Lynn Curtis
Foster would have been way too young for the artist, she was 13 when she did Taxi Driver. I'd say Cybill Shepherd, personally. But George Kennedy as the cop is priceless.

Throw in Bud Cort as the hitchhiker and Gregory Peck as the judge in the dream sequence and you'd have yourself something brilliant.

Also: I'm thinking the director of my early 70's Reservoir Dogs should be Don Siegel. Anyone agree?
Bud Cort has the young bug eyes going for him. I'd agree with that.

Now I need to get back to casting the remake of William Fredkin's Sorcerer with Josh Brolin in the Roy Schieder role and Peter Berg directing.

Plus: Roland Emmerich's Soylent Green

Run with that one, people.
Logan's Run (2009):

Assuming that we keep the age at 30 and don't reduce it to 20 (like in the book)

Sandman Logan (Michael York): Chris Pine

Jessica 6 (Jenny Agutter): Eva Green

Old Man (Peter Ustinov): Gene Hackman (pulled from retirement)
What the hell, I'll play.

Dick and Dora Charleston— Michael Fassbender and Jessica Hynes
Bensonmum the Butler – Peter Serafinowicz

Klaus Kinski as Graear Grimsrud

Any suggestions for Mike Yanigata? Racked my brain, but all I could come up with (era appropriate) was Micky Rooney.
Kinski would have owned as Grimsrud. His insanity? PERFECT. Although I'd rather he be a violent raving maniac (as he was pretty much shown to be in real life) rather than a quiet menace as Peter Stormare portrayed.

Man, Lily Tomliin was a looker way back when. I'm used to her latter day performances.
He was quite capable of quiet menace as well. He never really loses it in Nosferatue (or most of Cobra Verde), and that's what made me think of him in the role. He's got a similar, sleepy menace in that, as well as that part in My Best Fiend where they show, over and over again, a scene from an early Kinski film that impressed Herzog so much. It's just Kinski sitting at a bar table and being woken up. Which is exactly how that character is introduced in Fargo. Though yes...I'd prefer raving lunatic Kinski as well.

Plus, can you picture Kinski in the scene where he's watching the soap opera, and he's really, really into it.
COMMANDO directed by Neveldine/Taylor.

Jason Statham as Colonel John Matrix

Danny Trejo as General Arius

Lance Henriksen as General Franklin Kirby

Michael Cera as Sully

Rampage as Enriquez

Terry Crews as Cook

Leland Orser as The Sniper/"Mellow out man."

And finally

BENICIO DEL TORO AS BENNETT

Perfect, by the way.
Oh yeah, almost forgot, Bill Paxton as the Radar guy.

I could totally imagine Kinski really into the soap opera. Pretty creepy.

Those were the first two names that popped into my head as Zed and Maynard. They'd own those roles too.
