Oh wow.. I became obsessed with finding that video online a couple of years ago and I could never find it. The noise that figurine gave is forever etched in my memory.

Nope, she's had 3-4 sketches of her own since last season I think.

Is it supposed to be funny in a "so unfunny it's funny" kind of way? Even if so, it missed the mark and went right back to unfunny again. The shame of it is, I really like Wiig in movies (Knocked Up and Adventureland specifically), but MAN does she get some garbage on the show.

You could say that about a lot of the current SNL cast, especially Hader.

Always Be Cobbling still puts a huge smile on my face. As well as Sanz, Fallon, Katan, and Morgan's holiday songs. I know most people hate those guys, but they always cracked me up. And of course, Hartman as Frankenstein mumbling holiday classics is pure gold.

It's not that she "gets" garbage, Wiig pitches these characters. She has a whole slew of annoying sketches ( I listed a bunch in the main SNL thread) in which her characters have an annoying tic or saying, and Wiig just repeats the tic or saying over and over again. My skin crawls every time she's on screen in anticipation of how annoying she's gonna be. It's a shame because, like you said, she's generally pretty funny outside of the show.

The Gilly sketch has been aired several times, often as the show opener, which suggests Lorne and the writers deem it the best of the night. It's mind boggling that this is what they consider funny.

I love that one too. I must have been watching the Football game when it was on because I don't remember seeing it.

I love how all Tracy Morgan does during that sketch is jog in place.

If there is anything that special reinforced is how much the writing has slipped the last couple of years.

Just watched the Christnas special on Hulu, and I can't fathom why any person on the planet would find this Gilly crap funny. In fact, ALL of the stuff featuring the current cast was painful to watch. I mean, sub-MAD TV painful.

Watched that SNL special with Gilly on Hulu a few minutes ago. There are a lot of great skits (no Sweeney Sisters? come on) that were replaced for inferior ones (Dick in a box) Luckily my father recorded the SNL Christmas special in 1991 so I suppose I'll just make my own compilation DVD with that special and the skits that aired after, like Shweddy Balls and other classics.

I had never seen the Baldwin Glengarry Elves sketch before. Pretty funny but I thought the best part was when he fucked up and said closing instead of cobbling.

There was a link to it within that transcript. Ah, tears of joy...

The Sweeney Sisters were aweful.

Dick in a Box isn't any better.

Jimmy Fallon reprises his "I Wish It Were Christmas Today" on the Late Show with the Roots for a band and Julian Casablancas of the Strokes on lead vocals.

Horatio Sanz lost a lot of weight. Good for him!

That's was great. Would have been nice to have Kattan and Morgan back along.

Didn't Morgan just rip Kattan in his new book? Or is that why you wanted to see them together!

Umm...who exactly finds Gilly funny?

I never read that, plus I hadn't heard of this "Morgan rips Kattan" thing, I've been out of the loop on SNL for way too long!

Kids who think "randomness" shit like Napoleon Dynamite is funny? Beats me. I heard a lot of bad rap about this Gilly sketch but having finally watched her bits I'm quite amazed at how they passed it off as comedic.

Yeah he ripped Kattan and Cheri Oteri pretty good.

If Gilly passes as funny according to Lorne Michaels, what the fuck did he reject?
Every one of Larry David's sketches.
I have a feeling he really doesn't genuinely find it funny but thinks the younger audience crave it so he just goes along with that. Or he really did lose his taste.

I think that I watched that Grimaldi Family Christmas about 6 times last night. My wife had never seen it before, and she was in tears of laughter once the baby Jesus started crying.

Honestly, that made my Christmas. Thanks!

I wish I could make Baby Jesus' weeping my ring tone.

...and what would the moral majority make of that statement, I wonder.

I'll try and make an mp3 of it, Mattioli. If I'm successful, I'll send it to you.

Is that your phone? No, it's Jesus!

Gawker has 22 clips of the "best SNL Christmas skits" but it seems it's more like 22 of the best they could find. For apparent sadistic reasons, they include the Malkovich "getting a calculator" sketch.
