I need a librarian Magician, stat!

Or rather, my college does (and by Magician I mean Technician):

pay range: 40k to 56k to start

The benefits here are stupid good. And they promote internally. They have an internal posting for a high octane librarian (must have masters degree) where the starting pay range is 68k-78k. I gotta ask, is this typically what a librarian with the right educational mix can hope to make? If so, that's fucking fantastic! Anyways, thought I would throw that one out there given the proliferation of library-type people.

And don't worry if you are in the States. Get your work pass, come take the job, and if you haven't become a citizen in a year, I will convert to a religion that promotes polygamy and make you honest. That goes for guys too ( WE HAVE GAY MARRIAGE!! ) For the right fees of course.

It's Canada in the winter. Do they give you a Tauntaun for transport?

Yes, but only until you get your speeder adapted to the cold.

Nothing high octane about that. We all have to have master's degrees. Librarian = Master's. Everyone else is just a paraprofessional.

A note to American MLIS-holding Chewers who may be considering this: your ALA-Accredited Master's will work in Canada, a thought I comfort myself with semi-regularly.

eta - The pay for that internal posting is exceptional. I'm a working librarian and I make... well, nowhere near that. Unfortunately.

That is great pay. At this point in my job hunt I'm praying for $30k.
Yeah, $30K would be an improvement.

That is too bad about the pay for this job being way above the norm, librarians should get paid more. YOU"RE THE DEFENDERS OF HUMANITY'S KNOWLEDGE FOR CHRIST SAKES!!!

Having said that, our libraries are only getting bigger (we have several campuses). We've had a few job ads running along these lines in the last few months. Lots of people retiring. Hell, half of my department have already put in their maximum pensionable time and could pull the trigger tomorrow if they wanted. Anakin and Miss Zoey, I am not sure how you feel about living in Canada, but the job market is freaking hot here right now in Manitoba.

And Anderson, you only get a Taun Taun if you are man enough to take the smell. Elsewise, it's a free motorized snow sled. So either you get to be Han Solo or Todd Palin. Win.... win??

My wife manages a library branch (well, two branches now due to budget cuts) in California and earns $93k, so good money can be made.

Personally, I'd love to move to Canada (big fan of snow and Brian Adams is underrated), but the wife has some crazy notion about the girls living near their grandparents so they can "get to know them."

I'm in the "just out of college, very little actual experience" boat, so I expect to make a miniscule income on my first job.

Tell the grandparents to move here too! I WILL MARRY YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY TO GUARANTEE YOUR CITIZENSHIP!! (note: this push to have the position filled has absolutely nothing to do with the alleged referral bonus that comes from getting someone I recommend into the position. Anyone that is telling you this is a dirty liar, and may also work here.)

I was just looking through ALA's Joblist and I came across this amusing position:

Yeah, they made fun of that one on The Daily Show a couple weeks back. On a related note, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is looking for an assistant archivist right now. Too bad 1) I'm not an archivist and 2) It's in Cleveland.

You guys have fun with that, I'm gonna go hang out on the beach and buy medicinal drugs.

I considered studying library sciences, but declined.

Winnipeg's damned affordable too. A friend of mine just got a house there for $175, 000. But like Jake, I enjoy pleasant weather and abundant drugs.

Sadly, it's the only thing hot in Manitoba. New slogan of their tourist board: Tired of having feeling in your extremities, may we suggest Manitoba?

On the other hand you could get to drive by Neil Young's old house on a daily basis. Or see the keyboard player for Crash Test Dummies beg for change on the corner of Portage and Main.

The good news is that it's kinda hard to bleed out when your blood freezes on air contact.

I was actually going to start a thread about this, kind of. I wanted to ask any Canadians here about potentially becoming a citizen. I'm not a librarian (sorry Ludwig) but I'm still young and have my Bachelor’s degree, so I thought I might have a shot. Any advice/tips/relatives willing to marry me for citizenship?
