Goodfellas (1990) - Page 2

I just this week finished my Sopranos rewatch and this thread will probably make me watch this later today. I haven't seen it in a long time and I'm pretty sure I never saw it again after Frank Vincent began his role as Phil Leotardo. I wonder how weird this is going to be.

I do remember enjoying the way Imperioli and Vincent got to do to other characters in the Sopranos what their characters in Goodfellas suffered.

Just threw this on the TV as a lark. Ended up getting sucked into the whole thing again.

Also wanted to point out, my mouth slobbers EVERY SINGLE TIME the trio stop by Marty's mom's house. GOD, that food looks so good...

This movie is heroin and everyone is addict. You may think you're just tuning in until something better comes on TV, but what you are doing, my friend, is falling off the wagon.

The more I watch it, the more Karen is my favorite character. She gets to show so many sides of herself throughout the movie, anger, depression, elation, confusion, ennui, runs the whole gambit.

ETA:
"The one dog is looking this way and the other dog's looking the other way. It's nice."

Karen also gets to show disgust at the wives of Henry's friends. Marty's mom's food gets me all hungry, but all those wives make me lose my appetite. It's the make-up.

This hangs over my desk at work:

How many people catch this movie on TV one night and go up to you the following day with sudden revelation of where the painting is from?

All guys. No women.

One of my favorite scenes is Karen standing outside the place of Janice Rossi with her kids in tow venting her anger.

"Superintendent did you know you have a whore living in your building. Rossi. Janice Rossi"

The scene where they're cooking in prison is the one that gets me.

For anyone who wants to bad mouth DeNiro as an actor, then or now, watch the way he points to the guy with the beard and says "Looks like someone we know." It's fucking masterful. And then the slow push in out the window to the car trunk. Incredible direction. I love that whole sequence.

So I ordered Goodfellas on Blu and then watched Community. Film looks amazing on Blu, such great use of colour (on Blue the pink Cadillac which seals so many fates is like the brightest shade of pink ever, it's wonderful) and it pretty much solidifies it as one of my favourite films of all times.

The use of music in the film is amazing, my favourite cue has to be Sunshine of Your Love kicking in as Jimmy mulls over killing Morrie. The first lick of that guitar, combined with DeNiro's thousand yard state, is just amazing. It's probably one of my favourite Scorcese music moments, even more so than Layla.

Liotta is incredible in this, it's just amazing that he can easily hold his own when he shares so much screentime with DeNiro and Pesci. DeNiro is top of his game in the film and Pesci is just magnetic, but you're just utterly drawn to Liotta.

I actually used to think Casino was just as good as Goodfellas, but as I've got older I've grown less fond of Casino (aside from certain moments) and more a fan of Goodfellas.

Some of us old-timers remember when Scorsese's mom would cook on Letterman.;D

Casino is a great movie. The problem is you can't help but compare it to Goodfellas.
