I don't know--I think it actually looks like it might be pretty good. Very little Foley in the trailer, though.

Nice! Kids in the Hall is by far my favorite tv show of all time. I just hope it doesn't take forever to makes it way down to the states.

They've been playing ads and trailer over here for a while now. January can't come soon enough.

Love love love.

God, I hope they don't hold out on the us in the U.S. for too long - I've missed the hell out of Kids in the Hall.

I can watch that clip so many times and it still makes me laugh.

YES!..

Anyone see any of their live shows? Even better live!

I tried to get tickets for them live some years back, but they were gone in a matter of minutes, I never stood a chance!

So yesterday, I was trying to set up a conference call for my boss, and I phoned the client to see what time worked best for him. The guy wasn't there, but I got his voicemail, which was one of those weird automated systems. After I left my message and hung up, I realized who the recorded voice sounded like - it sounded exactly like Kevin McDonald in the "Sizzler Sisters" skits (which - I freaking LOVE the Sizzler Sisters - two characters who don't get nearly enough love). I'm just glad I didn't realize it while I was leaving the message for the client - I'd have been laughing during the whole recording. Still, I spent the rest of my day letting the possibilities run silently through my mind. "JERRY!!!" "YES, JERRY?" "CAN YOU DO A 10:30 AM CONFERENCE CALL ON THURSDAY, YOU PRRRRIIICK?"

From Cynopsis:

Quote:
Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald made an agreement with Canadian independent production company No Equal Entertainment to develop and star in a new 30m comedy called Big in the 80s for Canwest Global Communications Group. The comedy, written by Foley and McDonald, has the pair starring as former bandmates of a popular 1980s rock group that decides to reunite and live together. J.B. Sugar and Jonathan Kesselman along with Foley and McDonald will executive produce the series.

The last shot is insane. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh, and to echo everyone's praise for seeing the Kids live, you're damn right. I saw them in DC when they did their last tour, and we had monster seats. Mr. Heavy Foot walked right by me. Awesome.

Also, and this probably deserves it's own thread, but I can still watch Brain Candy beginning to end and laugh my ass off.

If this new series is just going to be Dave and Kevin, then I insist they close each episode with The Sizzler Sisters for my own personal amusement.

Anybody watching the current mini? The one that just aired yesterday?

I just watched the first episode online here (dunno if this'll work for non-Canadians):

It was...OK. It's possible that being a kid when KOTH was on the air has made it seem better than it was, so I don't know if that was disappointing or par for the course. The setup is intriguing--I'm a big fan of The League of Gentlemen, so it's cool to see that structure being imitated by the Kids. I liked some of the insane, random imagery, and it certainly warmed the cockles of my nostalgia, but I'd be lying if I said it had me rolling with laughter.

The best stuff was Mayor Bowman and his food-theft and his special son Rampop, plus the return of the two cops. Death is sort of interesting as a plot device, but comedically those scenes were way too broad and "zany". And there was a disappointing lack of McDonald/Foley action. Still, I'm compelled to keep watching.

Ok is the word for it. Especially compared to what we've been getting from these guys...

Man, Foley and McDonald as washed up 80's rock stars? SOLD.

The third episode's been the best so far, mostly because that's been the episode where MacDonald and Foley share the most screentime. McCullough's been the star of the show to date, as the Mayor, the fat kid, half of the two idiot cops and now the outrageous rock-star prosecuting attorney.

I'm kind of surprised that this is more of a Perry Mason murder mystery than what I thought it would be, a story about a serial killer stalking a small town. With comedy.

There's a fantastic two-page interview with Kevin McDonald up at The AV Club:

He seems like an incredibly nice guy.

This Brain Candy anecdote/never-made sketch had me rolling:

Quote:
Yeah, for some reason (those scenes) were deleted, and that’s that. I haven’t seen them. There was one other scene that I always thought should be in the movie—and actually, it was never filmed. I wrote it and everyone liked it but it was cut for some reason. Maybe Paramount didn’t like it. And you know what? I’m going to close the door to my bedroom right now so my girlfriend doesn’t hear this. It’s in the lab and one of the scientists is going, “Who do you have to blow to get a lab rat around here?” And then a door opens and Bruce’s character Alice comes out with tears down her face, and she’s holding a mouse and saying, “Right here.” And the scientist who wants the rat goes in the room, and there’s a puff of smoke and dark lighting and you hear a voice go, [in Satanic voice] “Next.” And he closes the door. [Laughs.] I always thought that would be a classic scene, but it never got in. If I ever write another comedy about scientists, I’ll put it in.
