KENNEDY - Tv Miniseries, 1983

Watched the third part two nights ago, and I intend to watch the first two parts tonight. Has anyone else seen this? Sheen is really great, but the guy who plays Bobby is TERRIBLE. Also, between JFK and American TABLOID, it's hard to watch this history without seeing Guy Banister and Pete Bondourant lurking around every corner. I was a epic WW fan (it helped pull me out of a depression over the state of America when I first saw it in June 2005), so to see Sheen do Kennedy is kind of a thrill

A plethora of President Sheen

PS: The guy who plays Bobby is TERRIBLE. As in, shockingly bad.

"Abraham Lincoln...George Washington...Martin Sheen..."
"That's John F. Kennedy, you idiot!"
"Well, he PLAYED Kennedy once."

Haha, what's that from?

The esteemed Master Corey Feldman and Miss Martha Plimpton in that nostalgic "classic" The Goonies.

Bruce Greenwood is still my preferred JFK. I just wish that someone get around to putting this mini out on DVD. We've already received Golda, let's dig up more hard-to-find late 70s/early 80s mini-series.

Greenwood was very good (Are you talking about 13 days?). And the Bobby in that movie was way better than the Bobby in KENNEDY.

When you say "this mini" Anderson, do you mean Kennedy? Because I have the DVD out from netflix now.

PS If you havn't seen Kennedy, check it out. It's a little dramatically inert, but Sheen kicks all kinds of ass. Really masters the voice and accent.

The guy who played Bobby played Lex Luthor on Lois and Clark, and hilariously looks nothing like him. The part that sticks out the most about this series is that the assassination was surprisingly gory for a TV movie.

I'm talking about Kennedy (1983). The mini-series you apparently rented. I had no idea it was available from Netflix. Hell, I had no idea it was on DVD. I must've missed that.

In regards to your previous note, I was talking about Greenwood in 13 Days. RFK in this 1983 tele-film was played by John Shea. With that, I'm done.

Yes, and interesting in that you take in the entire parade route from the limo's perspective.

Yes, I never even knew it existed till I unexpectedly encountered a DVD of it in the wild. THen I netflixed it.

13 Days is not a bad movie. Very informative even if Costner and his accent can be a bit painful.

John Shea is terrible in KENNEDY. Just awful. If you showed me a scene out of context and then told me he was playing the Dark Prince (CST reference), I wouldn't believe you. (Well, If you'd shown it to me before I saw the mini, obviously)

PS Don't leave, Anderson. Saturdays on CHUD are slow. We need to keep the boards active!

John Shea as RFK means I have to see this now.

Do you consider him a good actor? I am not even certain I've ever seen him in anything but this

I only know him as Lex Luthor and the gay dad from Gossip Girl, but I find him entertaining, and I like watching younger versions of actors in stuff. Even if it's in a "tee hee, it's the gay dad from Gossip Girl as RFK" kind of way.

Yes, I wasn't criticizing him. There are actors who are bad in one role, good in another. So I was not attacking him as a person, just pointing out he made a terrible RFK. Plus, I didn't want to seem cruel so I didn't mention this , but he also seemed kind of gay. I wasn't sure if that's because he was in real life, or if he was playing RFK as a closeted gay man. Now that I realize he is on Gossip Girl in a similiar role, it makes alot more sense.

The dad is totally out in Gossip Girl. I've said too much.

You kind of owe it to yourself to watch The Nativity (1978) if that's the case. Shea plays Joseph, which, given that he's the only guy most of the world believes was cuckolded by God Himself, is kind of hilarious when paired with that particular reference.

Interestingly enough, Martin Sheen also played Bobby Kennedy in the live tv-movie "The Missiles of October", which I believe is based on the same book as Thirteen Days.

That is interesting!

PS I finished watching it. I am convinced the woman who played Jackie was on drugs. Plus, they made Jackie seem totally stuck up, but it was clear the film's producers though that this was somehow "adorable". As a former socialist, let me tell you, no, rich people acting stuck up is not adorable.

Based on everything I've read, Jackie Kennedy was pretty "stuck up". I don't have anything against her, just sayin..

Lane Smith and Chris Robinson were a good couple of Kennedys (Kennedies?) in the 80s Twilight Zone episode "Profile In Silver".

Vincent Gardenia is great in this. He plays Hoover like a really creepy Bond villain or something, it's fucking hilarious.

Haha, yes, I personally think Hoover was kind of evil, so the hilarity of the performance was at cross purposes with communicating to the audience the reality of who he was

But yes, really really funny stuff.

It just disgusted me to hear her complain about living in the White House. You know, the unique privilage of living in a one of a kind museum of American History. "Oh, did you notice the smell!? Just dreadful!" "No Class in that place, whatever will I do?"

You know what? Fuck you, Jacki. GTFO of the people's house if you don't like it.
