It's a pretty great poster, and would be perfect if not for Brad Miska's quota. Come on dude- the Jaws line?
Yeah, that's embarrassing. Advanced word on this out of BNAT has me pretty excited.
Not embarrassing at all.
Yeah, i'm never getting on one of those again.

Yes it is. You can't get a more stereotypical blurb than that... it's been used to describe every fucking thing- hostels, backpacking, clowns, sleeping, spelunking, etc., etc. Should run a compilation of how many times that one's been used.

Me too. I'm always down for a good "isolation survival" horror flick, and since The Canyon disappointed the hell out of me I'm hoping for the best with this.
It's a cliche review line at this point. Not saying the film can't live up to it.
You guys, who haven't seen the film, are totally right. As someone who has seen the film and knows that there's a huge animal component to the story, I am wrong.

Not talking about the film, kneejerk. Talking about the line. It doesn't matter how well it fits, it's a shitty line that should never even enter your head. Unless you're Stephen King.
I don't see how that story point changes the fact that , as Alex pointed out, it's an overused blurb.

ETA: Alex beat me to it.
Most creative and downright artistic poster in a long, long while. I'd like that on my wall even if I don't end up liking the movie.

As for the "Jaws" blurb, I don't mind that it's cliche, but it seems sort of spoilerly, if it implies what I think it implies.

There's a 25 foot shark in the mountains?

Polar bear. They're relocating from the melted Arctic. That will require the lone survivor to channel Chuck Heston....

I love to ski. Huge down hill ski fanatic here when I can afford it at least. I used to be kind of careless and goof around (I have gone down double black diamond trails backwards, and fallen down an entire mountain, and refused to steer once untill I either fell down or ran into someone, whatever happened first). Then one day I almost fell out of a chair lift. This poster brings that memory back.

Though, I don't like the poster. If I were going to do an art design it, I'd have it an over head shot. When you're on a lift, that's what's scary. Being up in the air, the ground and safety below you... but far enough below to be too dangerous to jump. This poster is not scary, because you don't get a sense of the heights. It could just be someone hanging off a ski lift against a green screen. I'd have a poster with a shot above their heads, them all looking down at the ground, and maybe the one guy clinging on.

"Release....the Frozen Kraken!"

Or, keying in my avatar.....the movie tag line could be...

"When Bumbles Bounce!"

If only this were somehow true. If only.

I don't mind the quote. Cheesy. But whatever. Though after I saw JAWS as a kid I was even afraid of swimming pools. Does this mean that if I see FROZEN I'll even be afraid to put on skis in my parents' backyard?
Um, I've been on three different skii lifts at three different places. Those things aren't usually really that high up in the air. It's not like you are trapped hundreds of feet up in the air. It's more like 10...... These idiots can't just jump off? Is this some sort of super ski lift?

I've been to a few where its at least 50 feet. And i hate heights. It was terrifying. That's why i love beaches and hate mountains.

Not true at all. Some that I have been on ones that are 35 feet off the ground. It's scary because you're close to the ground, but no. You cannot jump

Come on, you don't think that there's a reason in the film why they won't jump off? I'm sure it's not 10 feet in the air.

Although that would make for a truly incredible twist ending. Play like the end of this Always Sunny episode.

Alex, he is crazy if he thinks ski-lifts are not more than 10 feet off the ground (Or he measures in Andre the Giant feet or something)
Well, that's what I get for going on the gheto ski hills......I was wondering why all the other snow boarders were like 5 years old and shit.
Someone jumps off.
.......does he fall thousands of feet through space and time to land in a world where Kate isn't a fucking retard?

Where I went skiing growing up was pretty "ghetto", in that it was not a super huge resort. But it still had some awesome trails. And yes, the lifts were more than 10 feet off the ground. Then it closed and now IS a resort for part time residents.

Now I ski at a different place that's more corporate. We locals call it Mickey Skis

(actually no one calls it that but me, but I think that's an awesome name)

The ones in the interior of BC can be up to 75 feet in the air.

Quit fucking trolling.
The only ones I can think of that are that low to the ground are for the bunny slopes. Try some of the lifts taking you to a double black diamond trail. Scary indeed.
fuck that. I state a personal experience, albeit limited, Kate imediately calls be out as a liar. I try to make light of it, and she doesn't fucking let up. Who is trolling? And how many people does she do this shit to?

Yes I have her on ignore, just like 80% of the rest of the boards, but it still fucking annoying as shit.

Jackson,

I now feel I was too hard on you. I've sent you a PM.

And Devin, I did kind of jump on his statement in a way that was disproportional to the wrongess of anything he said. I don't blame him for being upset, I might very well be upset in the same situation.

Anyway, thats all from me on this topic.
Don't send me PMs I don't want 'em.

Fine, Sorry Devin. Your boards, your rules. I shouldn't have taken the bait.

If you're going to be an asshole, then perhaps you should keep her on ignore and stop screwing up threads.
I've been on a ski lift in Colorado that was pretty goddamned high. I couldn't estimate feet because a) I'm very scared of heights and b) the dicks I was with love to keep the bar up and rock back and forth to piss me off.

But from memory, I'd say it was at least 60 feet at one point.

Fair enough

Basically I just sort of felt that the relative danger and intrigue of skiing was under attack. These days people often mock skiing as lame when it's compared to snow boarding, and as a skier I've kind of adopted a seige mentality at this point. I feel I need to seek out and destroy and possible threats to the reputation of awesomeness that skiing so richly deserves. That's why your comment about the lack of danger that falling out of a chair lift poses bothered me.

Anyway, looking back, I was too harsh, and you were most likely not meaning to insult skiing, so sorry

That's what my PM basically said
Frozen looks like it's gonna be pretty awesome.
Sorry I derailed the thread. Yes, it does look excellent.
I'm actually pretty giddy at the prospect of a ski-lift horror movie. I find ski lifts about 10 times scarier than any serial killer or monsters. I'm amazed no one has taken advantage of the concept yet, since I'm sure countless millions world wide have experienced that very specific terror first hand. How many have ever run into a 'Freddy' or 'Jason' type though?
I'm a fairly hardcore boarder and, well, is there some reason these people can't reach the lift line above their heads? I'm not saying that would be the be-all-end-all to their survival, and of course you run the risk of falling off the line if you get there, but it's not impossible to do and the next lift post will almost surely have a ladder on it.

That being said, I'm kind of intrigued by this concept.
It's addressed in the movie. Why not nit pick the film after seeing it?

Definitely not trying to nit pick. As someone who's been on the mountain, my point was simply the first thing that popped into my head. Of course, I'm willing to give it a chance if only to see how they (apparently) succeed in making such a concept work.

With the cold having weakened your grip, and the ice not helping matters, I don't see how you could go hand over hand on that cable. By the time they'd consider that, they'd be too weak to succeed. (IMHO)
By the way... I just noticed the "Jaws" tagline. That is not cool, IMO. Ski Resorts have been very hard hit these past decades. Between the ravages of climate change (less natural snow fall, and later in the season), and the economy, many are hanging on by a thread. Encouraging the public to be as terrified of skiing as they might be of a 25 foot long aquatic predator is hardly what I'd call responsible advertising...

Oh god, I know. I mean, I live in a beach town and the whole damn place has practically been dead since '75.

Re: crawling up the lines of the lift... Jesus. Those of us with a fear of heights would probably rather wait out certain death in the chair before trying that.
So, this is Open Water in a different environment?

PS: Not knocking Open Water, I found it rather effective.

Yikes. Sorry to hear that Joey Pants

And I also don't think you could do it. The cold, you see. When I've been skiing all day, I can barely grip my poles, much less do death defying acrobatics
