Anyways, trailer looks great! And, for fuck's sake people, isn't it pretty damn obvious Rourke is gonna upgrade his armor? Quit bitching about "how can he fight Iron Man like that"... haven't you ever, I dunno, seen a movie before? Of course he's gonna get better armor! You can see it coming from a mile away, for Chrissake's!

Instead of "that armor doesn't look practical", the comments should be "boy, I can't wait to see the upgrade HE'S OBVIOUSLY GOING TO GET IN THE THIRD ACT".
I agree with this. These are premature complaints and questions.

I liked the Stark Expo entrance too. It would be kind of nice if they ever either developed Pepper more or fleshed out exactly why Tony Stark is the kind of guy who would bother to participate in the unrequited love type of relationship dynamic.
Just had a good look at that shot of the chest-piece and the "veins" coming from it. It's all very straight and right-angled lines under the skin so captain oats could well be onto something about them picking elements from Extremis in this . . ?

Where did you read this? I'll double check tomorrow with my buddy there (he's an animation supervisor), but I have a hard time believing ILM would farm out any hero shots involving Iron Man or War Machine.
Hmm, those enemy suits of armor look a little like Titanium Man armor.

Edit: Not exactly subtle, but I did like how Rourke assembling his armor was pretty much the same as how Stark did it in the first movie.

awesome. can't wait to see this finished product though. definently not finished fx

The version in the Superbowl teaser was rough, temporary work that was not done by ILM, but by another facility who had not done many shots with the red Mark 3 Iron Man suit and didn't have much time to create the first versions of the shots. To make sure the shots will be as good as possible for the film, we consulted with the other facility to help them improve those shots. In the end, ILM took on most of the remaining Iron Man shots from that sequence. All of the tank shots are even better in the final film version than the official trailer and several of the other shots in the trailer (including some of the suit up shots and the shots where Tony is stuck in the suit talking to Pepper) are improved or different in the film versions. This is fairly standard for trailers of these big movies to evolve in this way.
Oh yes. Shoot to fuckin' thrill indeed.
Loved every single second of it, and if this is unfinished FX, I cannot WAIT to see the final product on a big screen. Does anyone know if they have plans to release this in IMAX?

Hoping not.
They've built a reasonable setting here, and cramming in all that biotech nonsense doesn't seem like it'd improve it.

Trailer's promising, anyway.

Very cool that the modern Adi Gravnov/Warren Ellis suit is being used as the new suit. Cool Cool Cool. War Machine has always been badass and popular.

Well, I think in the context of the larger Marvel Universe they're building here it wouldn't be that far fetched. It would actually seem pretty mundane next to Thor and the Hulk.
I thought it was something of an oddly structured trailer, but loved it nonetheless. Potts/Stark on the cargo plane was my favorite part; is it wrong that I found the way she kissed the helmet really erotic?

I actually didn't like the congressional hearing as presented; I can only assume it would be more fleshed out and not so blatantly pandering as shown in the trailer.

Hubris and humility are main themes or ideas for the storyline, I'm guessing.

That is WM's initial raison d'être in the comics. Rhodey wears a hyper-militarized version of the suit in a nod to "ok now, what is this tech really capable of..." i.e. how much shit can we blow up.

This nano-tech would be really useful for the debacle at The Avengers .
Looks pretty good, about what you'd expect.

Love the "you complete me" bit, of course. RDJ's just awesome like that.

I've never been a big Iron Man fan, and initially really didn't like the 2nd half of the first film (Downey's charm aside). It's grown on me quite a bit though.

And how did I know that Forty Six + 2 wouldn't carry over from the Comic Con footage?

Anyway, ok trailer. But that doesn't matter, as my ticket was bought by default for this one.
I can see this film setting up the Armor Wars for a third film, with Whiplash's lines about the damage Stark's products have done. This one could end with Stark realizing the extent to which his designs have been corrupted, with the next film being full-out Iron Man vs. the world mayhem.
Absolutely love that they are sticking with the AC/DC songs in the trailers.

Although having just watched Anvil, the Story of, 'Metal on Metal' would have been funny......not as cool, but funny.
The Prankster, Whiplash was an enforcer for...The Maggia, a NY based Mafia group.

The filmmakers combined, Whiplash, with The Crimson Dynamo. The original...TCD was Ivan Danko, a scientist for the Soviet Union. There have been multiple people in the Crimson Dynamo armor, but I cannot remember the others. Whiplash was a weaker Maggia thug, who wore a helmet right out of...Prince Valiant. He always got...WHIPped hard by Iron Man.

What is it about heavily armored guys shooting big guns that makes it like catnip for the make psyche? Because that last bit is making me unreasonably excited.

A.I.M. would be perfect villains for...Iron Man 3.

I agree with duke fleed. A.I.M. is the best.

Bring in Willem Dafoe as Iron Patriot. No explanation for Norman Osborn suddenly being alive, just do it.
Stelios, I suppose it all depends on what interests you most about superheroes. I grew up playing with...Shogun Warriors, which were based on super robot anime (Ufo Robot Grendizer, Getter Robo G, Mazinger Z) created by...Go Nagai, Leiji Matsumoto (Danguard Ace) and others. I have read...Iron Man since I was about 7, and I have always enjoyed films/anime series featuring high tech hardware as a result. Examples of a high tech show would include...Knight Rider, Airwolf, Blue Thunder, Street Hawk, The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman. I also used to read...Marvel's Shogun Warrior comics.

Getting back to your query...Guys in robot suits/piloting Super Robots, seem invincible, and thusly are able to protect their nation and the people they love. Big Guns are even easier to understand, as they carry tons of ammo that cause massive...Colatteral Damage, and bring death to their enemies.

Settled. I still have my doubts about the War Machine/Iron Man shots in the trailer not being ILM, but I guess we'll see...

She's the one thing in the world he can't buy. Also, she's phenomenol looking and brings the sass. You can't overestimate good sass. But, yeah, amongst all the armored brawling, laser whips, exploding tanks and the like, it's the relationships like that between Pepper and Tony that makes this film (films?) work.

Two points about the trailer:

I loved Stark's line about privatizing national security.

Needs more Widow.

Iron Patriot? You are kidding right?

Trailer looks great.

And it does look like they're incorporating some Extremis in this movie, prominently. You can see the circuit veins all the way up to his neck in one shot. Maybe this is one of the reasons he builds a new suit?

I dunno if I should hesitate to admit this, but, yeah, so did I.

I love that the trailer opens with the line "Can we pick this up where we left off?"

Sets the tone for the trailer/movie in a great way.

Any chance one of you initiates can sum up/explain what "Extremis" is?

Extremis Armor

After being critically injured during a battle with a nanotech-enhanced foe, Stark injected his nervous system with a modified techno-organic virus to save his own life. This fused Stark's armor to his body, allowing him to store the inner layers of the Iron Man armor in the hollows of his bones as well as control it through direct brain impulses. The Extremis enhancement has turned Stark into a cyborg, whereby the usage of his existing lockchip (a personal area networking implement implanted in his forearm) is directly integrated into his nervous system.

His new armor is no longer a bulky unit which houses its own AI "response server" and miscellaneous interfaces for neural control. Instead, it is more lightweight (constructed of a pliable crystalline material with a molecular structure that can collimate into super-hard planes upon the application of an electrical field) and less complex (as it interfaces directly to Stark's brain via the Extremis-modified cybernetic connections), and has much faster response time since it effectively functions like Stark's second skin.

He is also able to remotely connect to external communications systems such as satellites, cellular phones, and computers through the PAN interconnect (that is now thought-controlled). Because the armor's operating system is now directly connected to Stark's nervous system, its response time has been significantly improved.

Another major departure from the previous armors is expansion of repulsor technology. The "repulsor flight system" provides lift (something like anti-gravity) and positive flight control (pitch, roll and yaw), while the usual rocket boots provide the armor with thrust. The same repulsor technology allows the individual pieces of the armor to levitate and assemble themselves, by modulating what Stark referred to as "vectored Repulsor fields".

Furthermore, the Extremis process has endowed Stark with a 'healing factor' and possibly even enhanced physical abilities, as he was confident enough to challenge Logan/Wolverine to a fight (and even challenging to see who's capable of recovering faster from the other's attack). It was later stated that the Extremis enhancement speeds up a person's repair process and hence the body's cells died and regenerated at a faster rate. This effectively made Tony Stark immune to cancer and gave him his 'healing factor'.

In the Iron Man: The Inevitable storyline, it was shown that it's not only Tony Stark's body and the interfacing undersheath that has self-healing properties. Even the Iron Man armor has the ability to self-heal and self-repair, presumably through the use of nanotechnology. The armor is also able to store power throughout its structure, indicating that instead of having main batteries mounted around the waist as in the older Iron Man armors, the Extremis armor incorporates distributed and decentralized energy storage.

Note: Although Extremis for reasons of simplicity is referred to as "a virus", it is not. The Extremis process involved injecting several billion microscopic nanotubes, which act as information carriers, into the brain. The brain is then partly reprogrammed; the so-called "repair center", that part of the brain which maintains an "integrity map" of the body, is told that the body is wrong. The physical reaction is that the entire body regrows itself, remaking itself per the Extremis instructions. Extremis itself, the original information package, is not involved; neither are "nanobots".

After the entire Stark 'dataspine', the central data processing center which governed all, or at least the pertinent chunk of Stark technology, was infected with a hyper-advanced, Skrull-developed computer virus during the Secret Invasion, Tony lost the ability to use Extremis' interface functions and consequently the armor was rendered obsolete. For the "World's Most Wanted" storyline, Tony has begun using older armors, such as the Heroes Return armor and the Classic Red and Gold.
The whole "able to communicate with satellites and other computers" bit pretty much sucked, so I'm hoping they're going with something else here.

Urgh. Not sure I'm liking that - armor stored in his bones? Does becoming one with his armor do anything to his humanity - personality, emotions, etc.?

but a teaser? I'll agree that the 2 min version is all about the editing, a teaser tends to be just a collection of money shots to get us all excited.

But its done its job, I'm excited. But I really did not need a trailer to get my ass in the seat. The first film did enough.

Money shots that are chosen, cut to a certain length and placed together in a certain order. In a word- editing.
Just sayin'.

Extremis=God Mode. Hope they don't trespass too far into that vegetable garden.
I doubt they're going to do the full Extremis take, but I can easily see Justin Hammer either hijacking the armor or otherwise corrupting the Jarvis AI using some kind of program.
He could turn it into Evil Albino Monk JARVIS.

The action stuff was fine. But for me the character beats (i.e. "You complete me!") made the trailer enjoyable as Hell.

Actually coming from Sam Rockwell's comments, it sounds like Justin Hammer is the one that is the secondary villain. Lately it sounds like he is only a business antagonist for Tony Stark.........and not one at all for Iron Man. Of course, we don't know for sure. I'm almost wondering if it is the Ten Rings that Whiplash ends up being tied to and if they (and there mysterious leader, The Mandarin) are the ones in possession of the enemy suits in the trailer. After all, Favreau has said on more than one occasion that not only are they building towards Avengers with this one........but also towards using Mandarin for the inevitable Iron Man III.

Man, between this, Clash of the Titans and Hot Tub Time Machine, 2010 looks fine so far.
LOOKS awesome. However, Whiplash is too hard to understand. I don't think its so much his accent as it is his voice being so low. I still haven't been able to make out everything that he says. I hope they improve that for the movie.
