Just saw "Final Destination 2"

Actually, quite hilarious. Good, solid gore-horror movie. The opening sequence was quite good and fucked up, the kills are excellent (though the mythology of this one was a big "HUH?"), and one of the later deaths was actually pretty fucked up and effective. All in all, a thousand times better than the first one.

You did not dig the first one, Ruby?

Not particularly, no. I liked the kills, but as a whole movie, I didn't get into it that much.
So would you say that someone that liked the first one for the deaths and the story would like this one even more?

Probably. But I think somebody who thought the first movie was kind of stupid would like the welcome dark sense of humor all throughout this one.

I love you.

Best news so far this year.

And oh, yeah - shockingly enough, I had the same reaction after the movie that I did indeed remember having after the first "FD." On the way home, I drove really fucking slow, watched my mirrors and got really paranoid. The EXACT same thing happened after seeing the first movie as the movies make you really fucked up. If "Nightmare on Elm Street" makes you not want to go to sleep, "FD" makes you want to lock yourself in a room and get all fucking paranoid about whether your bookcase is out to get you.
I wasn't really excited about this one when I first heard about it--I liked FD, but I didn't know how much further they could take it. But the trailers and the buzz I'm hearing have made me start to look forward to it.

Well, that and Ali Larter. Yum.

So, Ruby, now that you've seen it, got any questions for David Ellis?

This is excellant news. I actually enjoyed the first one in a leave-ya-brain-at-the-door kinda way so this is good stuff.

My office chair almost killed me. Should I still watch this movie?

I just did a lengthy phoner with him and a two-part one with Perry and will be doing the junket with the two of them together this weekend, so I'm kind of all Ellis-questioned out for now, sorry!

Oh. Well, sorry then. Name dropper.

Very happy to hear that Jack's smiling Ruby, I really enjoyed the first one, just thinking about the Bus scene brings a smile to my face, I'll definitively check it out now.

Cheers!

What's cool is that in the sequel, you actually get a single frame shot of the super-gory effects work done for the bus scene that had to be taken out of the movie because it was too graphic (the corpse spread all over the street).

Sorry to offend. Perry's a great interview, just a really nice guy and I'm hoping that perhaps the five chewers on the boards who read my neverending, impenetrably long-winded interviews on CHUD might tune in to that one. The first time I ever got to do a good interview with him, actually, was about 60 seconds after I snapped that photo of him seen here. At the time, they were gearing up for "FD 2" and got some solid scoopage on that. I think "FD 2" is good enough that they might be back up at the Saturns next year, though they're going to have a TON of competition, obviously.

Nice to see you enjoyed it? Did you post a full review for it anywhere?
Jack, you could never offend me. I interviewed him on one of the last days of shotting for 'FD2', actually, and we stayed on phone about an hour after the interview just chatting about horror. He's a really kick ass guy, one of the good ones.

Nope. I've given up (for the most part) my early reviewing days and respect the studio embargos now. My review will be up January 31st, day-of-release. Sigh.
I'm so hyped about this, I hope I get to see it on the big screen. Entertainment, the UK distributors of New Line movies don't like horror that much mostly show them in the UK and not in Ireland unless it's something big like Blade 2. Sometimes when they do show em it's MONTHS after the UK release and hte flick is usually well on US DVD.
Saw it last night. My review'll be up on the 31st as well.

I will only say that indiscriminate gorehounds will probably love it.

"Indiscriminate"...sounds like a dig. wink

Saw it today....I agree with Smilin' Jack- although personally I thought the first was great.

Still though, loved this one even more.

And the kills....good lord, the kills....I can't really believe some of the stuff they got away with in this.

Definitely rounding up everyone for a good night at the movies next week.
They're thinking of making the third one a comedy, which is pretty ironic because the Final Destination movies are unintentionally funny in their own way.
*coughshillcough*

Yeah Tony Todd didn't have enough of a part.

Still though, the score was better than you made it out to be- that Incubus song Vitamin was awesome during the "meat grinder" part.
Oh yeah...sorry i'm a little wrecked, i was thinking about the music. Yeah the score itself was somewhat weak, it could've made it much more suspensful but went for comedy instead.

and yes, that Incubus song (its off science)played during that scene in the apartment.

You were at the screening in nyc?

Jesus, you people are willing to PAY to see this shit? Read a fucking book!
It's actully rift, not ripple.
Read a book? This IS a movie discussion board, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with reading but coming in to a movie discussion board and telling everyone to go read books is going to get you in trouble.
Hey slinky, go eat a dick.

I've probably read more books than you've ever looked at, doesn't mean I wouldn't pay to see a good movie. And final destination is a really fun movie.

Too bad you're such an uptight fuck that you'd never realize that.

This coming from someone who brought Dunguns and Dragons on DVD and can't stop watching it.

Actually… This is a usual weekend for me… If it ain’t the bookcase out to get me, it’s those fucking medieval books I use to keep the damn thing level.

And a meat grinder you say? I do believe I'm sold.
i loved the first one, and this one looks very good, i can';t wait till friday when i go and see this.

err...i meant Garbage Disposal...and well it...ahh, you'll see

It's worth it trust me.

And slinky, I don't get how you can trash a movie you've never seen for being stupid, while you praise the badness of one of the worst films to come out recently. I'm all for intelligent movies, but do you realize how boring it would be if everything that came out were an Antwone Fisher?
Is this movie really all that gory? I mean, it only managed to get a 15 cert in the UK.

It's not as gory as, say, "Cannibal Holocaust" or something as they still needed an "R" here and it's tempered with a lot of humor - but yeah, it gets pretty bloody time and time again (particularly one kill where you can almost smell the meat they drove in from some butcher shop - think "Dawn of the Dead").
