Moving to Denmark for six months

So MediaOracle helped me get a job as a research assistant on the social media project she's involved with, and as a result, I'll be moving to either Roskilde or Copenhagen for six months starting in February (possibly longer, if the university decides to extend my contract).

Best of all, though, is that the work is only supposed to last for five months initially, which means I basically have a free month to just kick around Europe. This is a big deal for me, as my trip to London back in September was basically the first time I've ever been outside of the United States, so I'm really looking forward to finally visiting all the places I've always dreamed about seeing. In fact, we're already planning a trip to Vienna to visit all the major sites featured in The Third Man.

FURTHERMORE (it just keeps getting better), I might be able to tag along with group as they attend a conference in Singapore over the summer, which would also mean a pre- or post-conference visit to Tokyo as well.

I still can't believe all this is happening, as I'm not usually this lucky. Anyway, I just wanted to share my good news with all the fine folks on the CHUD boards, as I consider many of you to be "friends" (or at least, as much as anonymous strangers on the internet can be considered friends).

So, Bitches Leave (or any other Denmark Chewers)...feel like hanging out sometime and catching a movie or something?

*insert "rotten in Denmark" jokes related to Chris's hygiene*

That TTM trip sounds like it'll be awesome. Good luck, and have fun.

Have a great time, but beware of Slovakian hostels.

Congrats, Chris! I'm so happy for you. I expect lots of pics so we can all bask in your travels.

I'm usually in Copenhagen for around a month out of the year. It's great! Drink lots of Tuborg. Roskilde has a fun museum, but I can't say I'd want to live there.

Like I said, we were initially looking at Copenhagen, but the university where we're both going to be working is located in Roskilde, and the travel costs would be killer. So we're going to set up shop in Roskilde for now, and then just take trips into the Copenhagen whenever we can afford to.

Thanks, Diva! I'll be sure to fill up my Facebook with photos, and I'll try not to look too smug or excited in all of them.

I know most everybody here who cares is already following me on Facebook and Twitter, but for those who aren't interested in the whole social networking thing but still want to be kept abreast of my travels, I started up a blog that can be found rightchere.

If you get a chance, catch one of the friendly matches Denmark is going to play as warm up to the World Cup. Even if you don't like soccer, it's a decent experience.

Also, the Roskilde festival. If you're going to be that close, you might as well go.

Enjoy Singapore if you get to go. The place is cleaner than Ottawa and the Scanawhovian countries combined. And the people are awesome.

Got the hotel booked and the plane tickets purchased, so got that all set. Pretty excited about that one.

Gonna be living right in Roskilde, so I'll definitely be checking out the festival. Also, really excited for the big music festival in July (unless that's the same thing...either way, I'm looking forward to it).
