Most anticipated of 2010

Thread Starter
I was pretty underwhelmed with 2009 overall, but the slate of artists readying releases for the next year has me so excited, I really do believe 2010 could be one of the best years in music ever (maybe even up there with my personal fave year: 1994).

Steregum's list.

Vampire Weekend (and by all accounts, this is gonna be living up to expectations), Spoon, Arcade Fire, and MGMT have got me waiting impatiently.

And all of you Drive-By Truckers fans: new album The Big To-Do due out on March 16th.
Yeah, that's a pretty impressive list. Really excited to hear a new Gorillaz album.

Why is 1994 your favorite year, Ray?

This thread sums up my thoughts on 1994. I'd argue that the quality of those albums still holds up today.
The Yeasayer's kinda eh. Definitely not as good as All Hour Cymbals, and that first track is fucking awful. It's like Aphex Twin remixed a DJ Skrew track.

ETA: Teen Dream, Toro Y Moi, and the Gainsbourg/Beck album ARE pretty damn good, though.
Yeah. Arcade Fire, Vampire Weekend (I've heard more than half of ot, and it's full of win), Interpol and Midlake are the ones I'm waiting for. And Shearwater.

New Peter Gabriel with covers??? Nice.
Definitely eager for more Spoon, Los Campesinos!, and Fleet Foxes.
Have not Thom and the boys been in the studio for a while? and talking about the new direction to various people?

Hard to believe but In Rainbows was 2007

That Gorillaz guest list is boggling my mind with anticipation.
Maybe we'll see new Swervedriver, and even My Bloody Valentine - yes, I have faith - and at the very least, there's a new Fall LP due next month.
What, nobody's got any love for the National or LCD Soundsystem?

Arcade Fire, MGMT, Vampire Weekend, Spoon, and hopefully new stuff from the Killers (cover album!) and the PIpettes. The thought of a new Hold Steady album's enticing, too.
Arcade Fire, Shearwater, Los Campesinos!, She & Him, Spoon, Beach House. Beyond that I really haven't been paying a ton of attention to what's heading our way.

Edit: Just looked at the link. Fuck me there's a lot of good stuff coming this year. Of Montreal, Band Of Horses, Wrens, Thermals, Walkmen, Magnetic Fields, Drive-By Truckers, Hold Steady, New Pornos? Fuck yeah.
The National - fucking great. Can't wait for that one.
Mine are Wage Slavery and Endless Subservience by The Interlocking Matrix of Capitalist Oppression and The Ecstasy of Non-Existence by Heat Death
post #13 of 56
DBT, natch, and hoping that the David Byrne-Fatboy Slim will catch more fire than the recent Byrne-Eno reunion album did.

Yeah. And it said it's somewhat a happy album. A cross between Boxer and Alligator?
Oh snap, Rose Elinor "Rosay Pipette" Dougall's album comes out next year, too.
The big 4 that I'm anticipating:

Eels - End Times
Massive Attack - Heligoland
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach
Weezer - Odds and Ends
Frightened Rabbit, Los Campesinos!, The National, and Spoon.
I'm really anxious to hear Mastodon's work on the Jonah Hex score.
Supposedly U2 is aiming to get a new album out before next Summer - Kind of a "Zooropa"-style sister album to "No Line on the Horizon."

I was pretty neutral toward "No Line," but I'll be interested nonetheless - While the songs didn't grab me, there were some cool ideas in there.
I'm looking forward to the new Harry Dresden novel...

Final Fantasy 13, Mass Effect 2 and trying to figure out what MMORPG I'm going to play, Star Wars or Star Trek..
Massive Attack - Heligoland
Fleet Foxes
Band of Horses
RJD2 - The Colossus
Movies? Agora. Hands down. An entire film set in Alexandria Egypt , founded by Alexander the Great. Couldn't be more excited

Books? Hopefully the sequel to COLD SIX THOUSAND gets released this year and not pushed back again

Videogames? I'd have to check what's coming out, but off the top of my head, ME2 should be a good deal of fun!
The sequel to Cold Six Thousand HAS BEEN OUT FOR MONTHS. Fucking hell.

Interesting! Last I read up on that issue (earlier this summer), it said it was slated for a 2KX or 2011 release. I'm really excited to read it, from what I've heard, it's going to be Ellroy's first book with a female protagonist. I'll have to pick it up ASAP, thanks for the heads up, Rath!
Guess PK didn't realize this was a music thread. What a fucking shock. Dumbass. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the upcoming release from The National.
Huh. The Avalances and LCD Soundsystem. Interesting.

then there's a bunch of 'meh', until the end of the list -- David Byrne and fatboy Slim? wait, what?
After looking through the list on stereogum list, I'm also interested in an upcoming release from James Mercer & Dangermouse. I really liked the songs they worked on together on the "Dark Night of Soul" album.

And after being kind of disappointed in The Magnetic Fields last release (Distortion), I'm really hoping the stereogum article is accurate and their upcoming release is more reminiscent of "69 Love Songs."
Probably the biggest release on the 1st quarter is

Sade- Soldier of Love. Hits February 9th I think.

you can hear it in the new LOST commercial on ABC or anywhere else on the internet. AWESOME song.

Why are you always picking on me, BW?

Or maybe you're just taking your time as you come up with extra clever insults for MBN

Maybe you should take time to actually read what people write before you post stuff. Its not that crazy of a concept.

Maybe you should stick to your pledge to put me on ignore and never talk to me again???

I'd appreciate that

Anyway, I did read the thread. I noticed it was a music thread that had grown in scope to include books and videogames. So what exactly was wrong with my post, again? Or rather, what was so wrong with it that you needed to single me out to complain, when other posters had already discussed books and stuff?
Show me one post above your first in the thread that talks about anything other than music.

I already did show you an example, BW.....

It was the first thing I said to you. I pointed it out to you in post #30 of this thread.
My bad. Someone made a simple mistake once, and someone else has continued their ever-expanding trend of posting things completely unrelated to the topic of the thread. My sincerest of apologies.
Hopefully Dr. Dre finally releases Detox this year. Oh yeah, and the new Outkast.
Great link thx. I am waiting for the Radiohead and Gorillaz' albums.
Very interesting list. Makes me realize how much I have lost touch with "modern handmade rock music".

Though I´d definitely add Hot Chip and RJD2 to the most anticipated ones. And can I just pray for the follow up to Roisin Murphy´s Overpowered to be released finally?

Is the Outkast album actually happening?
New Get Up Kids. I know they've talked about maybe releasing a series of EP's, with a view to possibly collecting them later, but any new material from them would be foremost on my list.
Looking forward to Radiohead, and The Hives.
I'm very keen to hear the new ones from Joanna Newsom and Battles. And I'm not getting my hopes up, but there have been mutterings about a new Aphex Twin album finally arriving.

I second these aformentioned mentions:

Eels - this guy seems to alternate between 'significant' personal albums (usually excellent) and relatively insubstantial throwaway ones. I get the impression the new one is the former category. Plus it has a great cover.
Fleet Foxes
LCD Soundsystem
Arcade Fire
Radiohead, if it happens.

Based on previous form I'm more interested in singles than albums from Gorrillaz and MGMT, but if they're on form those singles could be instant classics.

Could potentially be a very good year for music if everyone hits their form.
Wouldn't have a clue what's coming up this year, but am really looking forward to the new Coheed & Cambria album in April. Good Apollo Vol.2 was a huge step-up from Vol.1, and I'm interested in seeing if the same progression continues.

Also, will it be a stand-alone album, or the actual first part of the original story?
From that list linked above:

DAVID BYRNE AND FATBOY SLIM - HERE LIES LOVE

FEBRUARY 23 (TODOMUNDO/NONESUCH)
As previously reported, the 2CD song cycle about the life of Imedla Marcos includes cameos by Santigold, Florence Welch, Tori Amos, Natalie Merchant, Cyndi Lauper, Sharon Jones, St. Vincent, My Brightest Diamond, Steve Earle, and others.

Innnnteresting.

Sounds like the Truckers album is heading in a good direction.

The samples of the new RJD2 on his site are pretty cool... but I decided not to go see him perform Saturday. /lazy /cheap /hatetherain Anyone heard the whole album?

I haven't heard it, and this review from Pitchfork doesn't fill me with hope. That being said though, I didn't hate The Third Hand as much as they apparently did, so there's a chance I'll like this a damn sight better too.

He'll be in Toronto at some point soon and I've been dithering on whether or not I'd go see him.

Well, if The Constellations are still with him at that point, please consider them a strong argument for going. Great band from here in Atlanta.
Flying Lotus coming with a new album in march. Don't know if a lot of you around here are into freaky electronics, but I'm pretty psyched for that.
The Chilli Peppers new album. The last 2 were great.

Sorry to reply so late, but I posted it as a choice as it was rumored to be coming out this year. It doesn't seem like it will be released soon. I've read it's only going to come out once Andre and Big Boi put out their solo records.

Also, Detox probably won't be out this year: http://www.vibe.com/posts/dr-dre-exp...ox-delay-again

Brutalist Bricks leaked. Not bad, way better than Living With The Living.

If that's the best you can say about it, I'm worried...
