Dog Soldiers on DVD

We in the U.S. (region 1) get screwed again. First Ginger Snaps comes out here and then I hear about the Region 2 version with all the extras.

Now, Dog Soldiers. I have the region 1 and it is quite a good movie. But now I see the specs for the region 2 version which includes

1. 2 Commentary Tracks - on my disk we get the producers commentary, which details the making of the movie, but on this version you get that track plus a second one with the director and the cast that is reviewed to be much more entertaining.

2. Deleted Scenes and Gag Reel - Nothing like this on my disk, but I am interested because I see many areas that looks like something was cut out because of what seems to be an unexpected jump in time. Marshall says that most of the deleted scenes are characterizations of the men that makes them more well-rounded.

3. Making of - this is on mine as well.

4. The Neil Marshall short "COMBAT" - This is what I want to see more than the others. One of the highlights of the Eight Legged Freaks DVD was to see the short that got the movie made. It would be like seeing Within the Woods on an Evil Dead DVD (which will never happen)

I just don't understand why they release a really stacked DVD to one country and screw the other one. It just doesn't seem fair.

There's a packed canadian version of the ginger snaps dvd I believe. Not sure about Dog Soldiers. I agree though it sucks! Maybe Anchor Bay or Elite will pick up the rights of some of these and do us justice.

Hey at least the Region 1 "Dog Soldiers" had some extras and was at least letterboxed. Better than the Reg 1 "Ginger Snaps" (or at least the US one) which had nothing and was full frame.
As the above poster said though, there is a great Reg 1 Canadian disc for "Ginger Snaps" with all kinds of extras. Should be easy to pick up on Ebay (was where I got mine.)

But then again, look at The Ring. A pretty good success in the cinemas, but then shit canned for extras. Damn them making us double dip...

The Ring DVD is coming out with more extras than was first thought. They mentioned deleted scenes and a 15 minute feature. They also say that extras are subject to change. I take that to mean that there will be even more extras on that disk.

I just picked up Dog Soldiers and I am just happy that it is in anamorphic widescreen and has 5.1 sound. I believe that is pretty good for an Artisan release.

It's always going to be like this, especially with foreign films and/or low budget titles, thankfully importing is getting easier.

This is why I tend to wait to pick up a DVD, which sucks to have to wait, but in the long run it's so much nicer than ending up with a crappy copy and a good copy.

Plus, if you do end up double buying, you could always sell the icky copy and get a little cash back, or do what I do, give the copy you don't want to someone who doesn't mind the lack of extras but still wants the movie.

Presents are a good thing

What I find is that Wherehouse Music, where I buy some older DVDs has a deal that you can trade in any older DVD and get like $4 off the new ones.

They let me trade in the old Pulp Fiction and the old Reservoir Dogs for the newer ones and I got $8 the total price of the two.

Before that, I just gave the old copy to friends. As the prior poster said, presents are good.
