Serious Question About Digital Copies.

Does anyone really give a shit? I mean really, does this in any way influence whether you buy something or not. I know I could care less. I just want to know if anyone uses these.

Nice to watch on my iPod if I'm on an airplane or something. To be honest, I don't think I've ever really been engaged by a movie on the iPod though.

Haven't used any of the ones that I've accumulated - it really doesn't seem like a dealbreaker whether or not a movie comes with them for a lotta people.

And I can't get behind the "watching movies on iPods" thing. It just strikes me as kind of a waste of the movie-watching experience - cramped screen, headphones, etc.

Nope, don't care one bit. I suspect that if people could buy DVD/BD's a la carte they would buy the film and commentary and ditch the rest of the shit for a cheaper price. Even documentaries and behind the scenes stuff is kind of lame unless the film is over a decade old.

Have I used them? No. Do I think it makes sense economically? Yes. It doesn't cost them anything to package it in, and it can be kind of convenient... so why not?

I use them and appreciate when they bundle them in. I've watched movies on my iPod touch and laptop before and it's not that big of a deal. With the iPod the annoying part is obviously holding it up.

I couldn't even watch an episode of Freaks and Geeks on my ipod when I took a trip. I just can't stand staring at that tiny screen for more than 5 minutes.

I saw one listed on ebay the other day, and bidding was up to $6.50. So at least a few people are into them.

If you're watching on your computer/Apple TV/Windows Media Center it's no worse resolution than a DVD (they're all 480p) so I don't see why there wouldn't be value in it. Certainly when traveling would be when I'm more likely to watch them. Especially since hotel internet is generally so crappy streaming video doesn't really work.

At first I subscribed to the David Lynch school of watching a movie on your cellphone.

Then I started traveling. And got bored. Soon started throwing digital copies on the ipod touch. Not a game changer, but I've completely changed my attitude towards them. They're great if you're on the subway, or watching a youtube video, or even just futzing around, checking out SPEED RACER for the umpteenth time. The compressed colors sometimes make your touch look like a fever dream.

If only the copies would be 1080p and we could effortlessly transport them from one device to the other .... which I suppose is not that far off (re: Disney's vault idea).

I'm a huge turn around fan on digital copies after I got an av kit for the iPhone. I'll watch the blu ray on the big screen and on the smaller tvs in the bedroom I'll watch the digital copy if I want to change locations. Also on trips it helps and saves on the carry load. With them being on disc, it saves me download time as well.

At the house we have a media server for the ps3 to access movies and tvs in the house can also access the digital movies.

So yes they are useful and I hope they replace DVDs.

I installed a few in case I wanted to watch one on the airplane, but that'd be on the same computer screen that I watch most DVDs on. I still can't wrap my head around watching a movie on a cell phone/MP3 player. I watch Rachel Maddow on my MP3 player but that's about it.

They're a nice bonus feature if they come with, but I certainly wouldn't base a purchase because of this. Since I'm on vacation and traveling for the holidays, the digital copies have been a great way to watch (or rather, rewatch) while in transit or once I'm with my family.

Well I don't think its possible to get any sort of cinema experience on that small of a screen. Its more for a time wasting thing.

If I have the chance, I rather watch a movie the first time on blu-ray with the full HDTV and surround sound setup. Then after that, a SD digital copy is good enough.

What annoys me is they apparently expire. If I ever finally opened one of the dozens of Blu-Rays I have the apparently contain a digital copy and tried to put it on my computer or ipod (if it accepts that format and few do) I'd probably find it unavailable.

The coupon does, this happened to me with Speed Racer. For some reason it was only the iTunes version that had expired not the Windows Media version. So I emailed the support and about a month later got a response with a new Digital Copy license key and downloaded it from iTunes.

They don't make it obvious but I guess they figure if you wait more than a year to buy the Blu-ray that the digital copy must not have been worth it to you.
