Working on Christmas Eve

Which other poor Chewers are stuck in the office today praying they get to go home early?
We’ve been told we may be able to get out for 4pm, if we’re lucky. I’m just watching the snow slowly fill up the empty carpark and trying to work out WHAT I can do exactly when everyone I need to contact is on annual leave.

4pm for us as well (although rumour is it may be sooner). I have two bits of work I need to do today and I have already done one of them.
Well I wouldn't say I was working, been on here for about an hour now. My boss is on leave and I've got an empty in tray.

I'm getting out at 12 but I have to drive from Newcastle to Liverpool, I'm currently watching the road fill up with slushy ice, should be fun.
Count yourselves lucky, folks. I'll be in 'til 6. Yeah, I know.
Wow, that sucks BB. Hope your drive is safe Rusty, the snow is actually getting quite nasty down here so I hope it's not too bad up by you.

One of my friends down in IT is sat across from me and we’re just playing a Lan Game of Diablo 2, god bless these old Windows 2000 PCs, whilst listening to Christmas music. I’m literally going through my list of Recruitment Managers seeing if anyone is alive whilst I try and put Baal down for good.
'Tis, Spike. Though, the deal is sweetened a little by the mass staff exodus to the pub which is set to follow finishing time. Thanks for the sympathy.
In until 6 for me too. Running a retail store in Christmas season is a shitty, shitty thing.
Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on the BBC weather site as well as Chud, snow is easing off here thankfully. We're just going to take it easy, hopefully the motorways shouldn't be too bad.

I don't know why they bothered opening here today, phone hasn't rang once yet. I've just done the last 3 levels on iBomber on my iPhone, hurrah.
In till 4, but Christmas and the day after off. For a tech support job, that's such the bullet dodge.
Working till late tonight. Bottle of Glenlivet and Up are waiting for me at home. Please, god, let the evening end.
Hmm, for some bizarre reason the team in the opposite office have had Happy Xmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon playing on a loop for the last thirty minutes.

The wife just sent me a bizzarly addictive flash game in an excel spreadsheet, the aim is to shoot as many people as possible with a shotgun.

Good Times.
I'm leaving at 3 today whether they let everyone go early or not. It's a trade-off for letting my co-worker take off all day New Year's Eve.

Besides, the place is going to be a ghost town today, so it's not like it's going to be a chore to be there, and the wife is working until about the same time anyway.
I'm out at 2. Tons of stuff to get done, though, so I may stick around for a bit longer. Scrooged, A Christmas Story, and Love, Actually are all sitting at the house waiting for me, though. Life is good.
I had taken the day as a vacation day, but the friggin' government decided to put out a solicitation on fucking December 22, so I'm in the office for about five hours today to help with our initial response.

I should be done around 11 or 11:30 AM, though, and then the rest of the day (and weekend) is mine.
Just got attacked by some snow-covered squirrels during an epic inter-department snowball fight during lunch in the park.

God I love Christmas.
I'm off in a half hour but I get to come back tonight at 11 pm until 7 am Xmas morning.
I'm here, but not really working.

Actually, I'm going crazy because I think I have a new job, but I can't get the recruiter to respond to me because I believe he's on vacation this week. He'll respond to an e-mail first thing in the morning, then never talk to me again the rest of the day. Yesterday's e-mail said he was preparing the paperwork, and would update me in the afternoon. Still haven't heard back. I do know that the client themselves want me, and I told them that I want to work there. So, fingers crossed.

For those of you stuck and bored at work today, here's a game I made as our company's Christmas card last year:

http://www.nightofthesnowmen.com/

Merry Christmas!
I empathize with everybody, since for the last few years I've worked at either a movie theatre, department store or electronics store on Christmas Eve. This is the first Christmas since 1999 where I won't be spending at least part of it dealing with the holiday psychosis of people. Stay sane, folks.
I went into work last night (the 23rd) for 11:30pm and finished work this morning at 8am. I go back to work at 12:01am on Dec. 26th until 8:30am because we have Boxing Day here in Canada and we have big sales. I then go back to work for 10pm on the 26th as well. Yay working retail at Christmas!
At work now, but definitely plan on leaving early. I have to work my other gig until 2 AM, and then commence to smoking some turkeys for Christmas dinner. I will be pulling at least 24 hours of "work".

Merry Christmas all.

Not Working on Christmas Eve

Pretty awesome.
Stuck at work with Bronchitis. I sound like the love child of Michael Wincott and Weezy Jefferson.
Only work I'm doing today is trimming and marinating the beef tenderloins for tomorrow's dinner. I'll raise a glass of red wine later for all you workin' stiffs.
There are times when I hate my job. I deal with entitled students and helicopter parents everyday. I don't get paid very well, and I usually end up doing a lot of my coworker's portion of the work just because they are too slow. But, since I work at a University, I have paid time off from today through January 4th (that doesn't count against the vacation time I accrue). It may not be the best work, but if you get a chance to be an employee of the Ivory Tower, jump on it, because the benefits are fantastic.

Much better than when I was slinging burgers and working on every major holiday.

I hear ya. My office is technically open, but it may as well be closed. I took the day off, didn't bother getting us a temp because the phones aren't gonna ring, and my bosses never even blinked. I just have to get the presents together, and then in an hour or so, I'm headed out to my boyfriend's place. Yesterday I snuck out at 4 PM, and no one even noticed.

Happy Holidays, Chewers! See you all late tomorrow night!
Actually, I remember when I was in college, I drove 250 miles home for Christmas. Then on Christmas day, I had to drive back to come work at the stupid fucking video store for 4 fucking hours, because EVERYBODY had to work on Christmas day--and I was the only person that didn't have family living in the same town. People came into the store saying, "Man, I can't believe you guys are open and you have to work today! I'd like to rent this copy of 'Sister Act', please." And after I got to work, I find out that the only person that had kids got to take the day off because she got someone else to work her hours. This after we were all told we couldn't do that. I think she got by with it because there was a rumor that she was banging the store manager. I was so pissed off on the 4 hour drive back--I was even more pissed when I walked into work and found out that chick wasn't working. I didn't speak to my manager the whole time I was there.

I'm here til 12 today. This isn't necessarily a bad thing just because of how much shit has to be taken care of.
I hear you, Ed. Here's to sales guys who wait until they leave on the 23rd to let you know about bids that are due the first week of January. All is well, though, as Santa's on his way and new love is in bloom.

Happy Holidays to every one of you onery bastards!

Fuck that high score list.

In the ear.

Back at ya, Blackwell. And to all the rest of yas.

Someone a few cubicles over is blaring Hispanic Christmas music, so I'm cranking up a Christmas station on Pandora to compete. It's not helping that I've been stuck with The Carpenters, Brenda Lee, and TWO cuts from some horrible album where Santa sings Christmas songs. I may have to concede defeat here.
I'm working until 10pm on fundraising research and then hitting up the Christmas Eve service at the Lutheran church down the street at 10:30.
Working till 8:30 tonight and will not have access to a computer. People may die.

Yeah, no shit. I played for a good 5-6 minutes straight and almost broke 1000. Then I see the high scores are in the 3000s.

1320 before death. Those are some shifty snowdevils...
I'm here for 4 hours today. Of course, I commute an hour each way to work which makes a short shift feel even dumber than usual.
Boo fucking hoo. I've worked ON xmas for the last 5 years and would've had to again if I hadn't just landed a sweet new job.
In today by choice with nothing much to do. No one else is here but the cleaning staff. Time to kick back and finish up Burn Notice Season 1 courtesy of Netflix. Basically, I'm here hiding out until I'm forced to join my out-of-town in-laws for lunch.
jvc, I have to ask. Did anyone ever work a trial while wearing a santa hat?

I don't know any lawyers who would have the guts to do that in my conservative judicial district. Maybe towards the end of my career I'll consider it. A few years ago I appeared in front of a judge for a hearing on Christmas Eve. He took the bench wearing a bright red robe. But judges can get away with that sort of thing.

Being a lowly contractor, we get stuck here till 5 while the other 99% of the facility get a executive order from Obama to leave at noon. It sucks being at the bottom of this totem pole.
Merry Christmas to all of you!
Even though it'll get very warm once in a while. I can only imagine what our Southern Hemisphere chewers must be doing during the holiday season.
I'm not working, but I'm fucking snowed in. Oh well...at least this blizzard has forced us to cancel our drive to visit the in-laws...
I had Christmas Eve off, but some dumbass co-worker of mine didn't show up yesterday and got himself fired, so I have to cover his shift in the dish pit.

Merry Christmas Alamo

Hope the rest of your shift is fast and fun, OCallaghan.
