The movie would have been great if it had actually explored any of the interesting events/accomplishments mentioned in the title card at the end of the film.

The costumes, production design, cinematography, and music are gorgeous, but hung on a bland-as-cardboard romance plot.

Well, THE BLIND SIDE isn't CRASH, in that it at least makes an attempt to adress the racially questionable politics of the situation, but it's still a pretty blatant White Guilt movie. It's not a badly put together movie, and there are some parts that actually get to you -- i.e., when Leigh Anne learns Michael stopped the windbag -- but it's ultimately forgettable.

As for Bullock's performance, she's solid, like she has been for a while, and she's doing some good work here, but any win for her is straight-up "you're due/thanks for being good for buisness" award.

Connie Britton every week on Friday Night Lights* > Sandra Bullock in this.

*The kid playing Bullock's younger son reprises his role as "scrawny kid in love with a football player" here. He was formerly the "Tim Riggins is pickin' me up from school!" kid.

This article, by EW editor and film historian Mark Harris, is one of the best articles I've read about the Oscar campaign season, not just for this year, but in general.

The ever-tangential Saturn Award nominations are out. They put Avatar in the fantasy film category, and failed to nominate District 9 for science fiction. And somehow nominated The Lovely Bones for Best Fantasy. No wonder nobody pays attention to these things.

If there's justice, when FNL is over Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton get successful movie careers. Connie Britton is just amazing.

Oh Christ, while I loved the first season of FNL, that kid was very hard to endure.

So will this retarded shit hurt The Hurt Locker's chances?
I doubt it. Maybe if it had happened earlier? But a lot of ballots have probably been mailed already.

I don't think so. The email itself sounds pretty harmless and trivial. He didn't even really rag on AVATAR.

Still, Bigelow must be furious.

My god, this really bothers me...

When Barbara Walters announced that this week's upcoming Oscars special would be her last, she said, "I think I'm sick of them...I feel I've been there, done that."

In an interview with the New York Post, she has expanded on those comments, hinting that one reason she's "sick of them" is that there haven't been the big-time movie stars she's loved to interview over the years.

"It wasn't special anymore," she said. "Now, it's people who have been in one movie."
Barbra Walters says she is sick of the Oscars because now people who have never been in a movie before can sometimes win them. That is beyond retarded. We (should not) do not give people awards because they've been in a bunch of shit. We give them awards because they are good. It shouldn't matter how many movies you have been in if your performance was the best

Walters basically all but admits the whole thing is supposed to be a Hollywood back patting wank session, and non famous new comers need not apply

Oh yeah, Walters should mention that to Dr Haing S. Ngor who debuted in the KILLING FIELDS and then won an Oscar. If he knew that these days the same thing happens to other people that happened to him, he'd be spinning in his grave!

This Sunday CHUD is hitting the Oscars in a big way. Nick will be doing a live commentary on the podcast, while I'll be doing old fashioned live text blogging on the site - yes, you can have us make fun of the Oscars in multiple ways! Possibly at once!

Well, everyone..... It's here!

Today is the big day (or, tonight is the big night, whichever really) and I'm looking forward to sharing my thoughts on the 2KX Oscars LIVE with the CHUD-munity(c) in real time.

I have to purchase/eat some dinner first, and I want to finish up the ELVIS miniseries I was watching last night, but then I'll be all ready to post up some profound observations on tonight's telecast.

It should be fun!

PS I'm going to skip the red carpet though, as my patience for the Oscars is already at an all time low. I'll try and check in a few minutes before the main show starts

EDIT: Is this the thread that will be used for live discussion of the Oscars? Is there another? Will we have to answer questions about who we're wearing? (that sounds like something you'd ask a Silence of the Lambs character)

Seriously, what did Cameron do that Zemeckis hadn't done, besides sticking cameras on the actors' heads and throwing three times the money at the screen? Jar Jar Binks was a revolutionary moment in special effects, that doesn't mean Episode One deserved Best Picture.

Dear Oscar Gods,

Please let Patrick Swayze's clip in the Reel of Death include "He's not coming back" from POINT BREAK. Thanks.

Love,

Brendan

Classy SAG had him going toward the light in GHOST.

The dead scroll's a big'un this year, innit?

Yeah, it is. I have a feeling Natasha Richardson's going to edge out Swayze for the coveted last spot, but I also think Karl Malden could pull an upset. /morbid
post #271 of 273
Swayze takes the last spot. That Ghost moment seems like the most likely ending. Will they include Michael Jackson??? With a Moonwalker clip???
MJ in The Wiz.

What the fuck is wrong with Kathy Ireland?
