Confessions of a Sopranos Virgin. - Page 2

And yet Carm puts up with it because she likes all the nice things she has. I always got the impression she knew exactly what Tony was a part of when she married him, so it's not like she should be surprised at what he does. She knows Tony is a monster, she knows he's never going to change, and hey look, I got a nice new fur coat and some jewelry! She's just as corrupt as Tony is, because she knows full well where all their nice things come from, yet still has the nerve to play the victim when his lifestyle rubs her the wrong way, and has no problem turning a blind eye when it suits her.

So I think I'd say that it's not that I "hate" Carmela, I just find myself having very little sympathy for her.

Of course, on The Sopranos, it's a little murkier than The Shield/Mad Men/Breaking Bad, because with the exception of Melfi, pretty much every characters' behavior merits being hated.
I'm only in Season 4 right now, so I expect this to change, but I'm finding AJ and Meadow to not merit 'hate' at all. There's a spoiled brattiness to them, but they're both effectively innocents in the show at this point.

Bizarrely I find myself sympathetic to Christopher Moltisanti, way more than Adrianne, just because he seems like a product of his enviroment. There's a nasty, vicious, brutality to the character but his age perhaps makes me view him as a product of his enviroment. Which is odd because the majority of the characters are products of their enviroment.

There's a certain tragedy to Janice in particular as she's a mirror image to Tony Soprano, vindictive, scheming, petty, but she lacks his 'charm' and she's not 'good at what she does' and as such she comes across in a far harsher light than Tony despite trying to extricate herself from the life.

Well, we're shown that Christopher actually seems to have a talent for something else. A few different choices earlier in his life and he could have been making Cleaver 7 in 3D.

You know who I feel sorry for? Angie Bomponsiero, it was bad enough she was stuck in a shitty marriage but then Pussy turned snitch and got whacked, Tony's vindictiveness towards her was despicable.

Tony was not the despicable one in that situation. That was clearly written against Angie. She doesn't get fucked till later, when Phil Leotardo pulls his bullshit with the car repairs- even then, it all works out just fine for her when they turn her into a sort of Anti-Carmela.

As I recall it, it was written such that Tony was given a relatively slight excuse to be angry at Angie, and he jumped on it because he's more comfortable expressing rage than remorse and self-loathing.  But I haven't seen the episode in several years, so it could be a lot more one-sided than I recall.

He makes it clear that she knew to come with him to settle money issues, she was driving a brand new car, and her doggy sob story she gave to Carmela was bullshit. It was posed as Tony being restrained and calculating with how he handled it, considering the whole sociopath murderer thing.

I guess it was the Phil Leotardo situation that I remember then, I'll have to watch it again.
