As many of you know, Guillermo del Toro has been trying to make Mark Frost's terrific book The List of Seven/7 into a movie for some time now. After rereading it recently, I thought, "Well, I've cast it in my head, so why not share it with the rest of you?" I have a tendency to "cast" books and graphic novels in my head when I read them, and this held true for List as well. So! Here we go:
The List of Seven
Directed by Guillermo del Toro
Written by Guillermo del Toro and Mark Frost (methinks del Toro would want Frost's input on the adaptation process)
Starring:
Simon Pegg as Arthur Conan Doyle-Pegg's got the right kind of nerdiness for Doyle, but he can also be convincing in a fight, and he can certainly get Doyle's frequent "What the hell is going on?" attitude across.
David Tennant as Jonathan "Jack" Sparks-Tennant, I think, is perfect for this role: he's equal parts eccentric, cheerful, intelligent and insensitive. Like Pegg, he can also certainly handle himself in a fight.
Keira Knightley as Eileen-Yes, it's another period piece for Keira, but I think she would nail the role of this fiery, conflicted actress.
Peter Dinklage as Larry and Barry-Well, they're described as being pretty short, and wouldn't it just be neat to see Dinklage in completely opposite twin roles?
Ron Perlman as Bram Stoker-Well, you have to get him in there somewhere, but I think this would be cool because it would allow Perlman to play against type as an intellectual.
Doug Jones as Prince Albert Victor and any monsters/creatures-Mostly because I think Jones could completely handle a non-costumed role, and Prince Albert is such a loon that Jones could make a real impact in a relatively short amount of screentime. He would also, of course, play the various monsters/creatures.
I don't want to cast Alexander Sparks or the rest of the Seven yet since it's admittedly been a while since I read the book, but maybe I'll update it after I do so. Any thoughts, gentlemen (and gentlewomen)?
