Going To Austin On Friday.

I'm going to be in Austin for only one day. Even though I'm a native Texan I haven't been there in just about a decade. Austin Chewers, any good spots I could hit up aside from the Alamo Drafthouse which I definitely want to go to?

I'm looking for any Half Price Book stores (I know there's at least one there) or music shops. Any really good places to eat would also be much appreciated.

Forgot to mention that if there's any small used movie shops or comic shops I'd like to go to those as well.

I've never been to Austin but I took the liberty of looking up where the Big Lots are located. Set your GPS for:

-801 East William Cannon Drive #135
-6929 Airport Boulevard 110
-8740 Research Boulevard
-7101 Highway 71 Suite D 1
-8666 Spicewood Springs Road
-2506 West Parmer Lane Suite 300

What an oasis of bargains. Have a great trip!

Thanks, Molt! I'll be sure to be hitting at least a few of those. Maybe I can find more of those Kool Aid Juice Pack Jammers that I've become addicted to as of late. The ones around here don't have them. Hope I find some good dvds at them too.

Have you ever been to a Freebirds for a burrito? If not, RECOMMENDED. Amy's Ice Cream is darn good stuff, too.

Austin Books is probably your best bet for a great comics shopping experience.

Of course, all this is secondary to hitting as many Big Lots! as possible.

Never been to Freebirds. CHECK. Can't wait to eat a delicious burrito.

Austin Books. CHECK.

Amy's Ice Cream sounds like a good dessert.

Big Lots! DOUBLE CHECK.

Thanks, El Gray!

I would skip Freebirds and go for the unique, family-owned Sarah's Mediterranean Grill & Market for delicious ethnic cuisine. I suggest the kefta beef plate, or the chicken shawerma. It's on Burnett near North Loop, look it up. Very close to Austin Books, which is on Lamar Blvd. The big Half Price Books is just up the street from Austin Books.

In order to get the authentic south Texas Big Lots shopping experience you have to go to San Antonio. Everything in Austin is just a little too fancy.

Thanks, Chris! It just so happens that I'll be in San Antonio that night and the following morning. I have a friend that I graduated with from over here in Santa Rosa, and he moved to San Antonio back in 2006. It just so happens he's never been to Austin.

I'm actually heading to Temple with my girlfriend to celebrate the new year with her sister, and then the following morning she's going to drop me off in Austin, and my friend's going to meet me there. Then we're going back to San Antonio, and he's going to show me around the town. Haven't been there since 2004, and that was only to a small part of it.

Yeah, I'm going to have a pretty good weekend. Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll have to check out Sarah's Mediterranean Grill & Market. I'll be there early, so a good breakfast place wouldn't be out of the question either. My friend and I probably won't head back to San Antonio until the evening.
