Happy New Year 2010, CHUD!

Wow, a whole New Year! I’m pleased to say I was actually pretty hopeful and excited in the final moments of 2009, which is a welcome change from my usual pessimism.



Also, props to


Carson Daly and NBC, for a truly classy and restrained broadcast. Last year my New Years was ruined by Anderson Cooper and his tasteless and crass attempt at hosting duties on CNN. My final moments of 2008 were taken up with seething rage at Kathy Griffin. Ugh.


Carson commented on how nice it was to have everyone singing along to Imagine, and made a few other nice observations but otherwise kept his remarks spare. This was a welcome change and it allowed me to watch the scene and reflect quietly as the year came to an end.

I was out, and I noticed a dude or two. I thought to myself "that's Mark Duplass. And I think that's Josh Leonard." I'm dancing like I normally do (that is to say, tearing it up) and it's a little after ten, so I have the floor with some space, though cause it's NYE it's more crowded than usual. I make two femme fans (as is to be expected) and Duplass is on the floor with - as he tells me later - his wife, who is falling out of her dress, and I'm of the mind that I kind of want her to fall out.

I go play some pinball, and some MJ song kicks in so I stop my game and go to hit the floor, but Mark comes over, stops me and says "I want to tell you, non-ironically, that I saw you one the floor, and, non-ironically, you really got the floor started." I said "Yeah, they call me the party starter here." "Really?" "Yeah. I know you from The Puffy Chair, right?" "Yeah." "And Baghead." "Well I directed that, but I wasn't in it." "Yeah, well, I am friends with Shawn Levy, and he is a big booster of you guys." and the conversation goes from there. I feel sort of weird that I can talk industry talk with guys like this whilst drunk, but it's not like I have no idea what I'm talking about. I am aware that I'm aware. I wanted to compliment his performance in Humpday, but I kept thinking Humpday was Baghead, so I'm glad I didn't say anything.

I'm jealous of Dre's twinkletoe-ness. I love to dance, but I can't, because bystanders assume I'm having some sort of seizure and immediately call for help.

I did good last night, kids, and no hangover for me today. Gonna break down and see Avatar in IMAX this afternoon, because god knows Jim Cameron needs my money more than I do.

'The Puffy Chair' was just on Sundance. Great story, I'd've had about the same thought process on the dance floor regarding his lady.

Me too! I am incapable of dance, and usually, even basic rythm proves too much. I think it's my white girl genes at fault, but I cannot be certain. You'd think my irish heritage would at least allow me to bust out a mean river-dance or something.. I once fell off Wii-Fit 3 times in under three minutes at a party and was told to get off before I "embarrassed myself"
