Fallout 3 Help

Thread Starter
I just got Fallout 3 for Christmas, and have just started playing it the other day. I am really getting into it, but there are some minor issues that I can't figure out, and can't find in the manual.

I decided before continuing the main quest (from Megaton), that I would try and do some side quest to level up.

I thought I'd dismantle the atomic bomb in Megaton, but when I approach it, it just gives me the option to activate it. Is there a way to switch that.

I then talked to Lucy and decided to give Blood Ties a try. I went to Arefu spoke to Evan King, and investigated the houses. The game acknowledges that I talked to him, but does not say that I checked out the houses even thought I did. When I go back through the houses, or try and talk to Evan it says a) Pickpocket Evan King, and I can't get any other option up. I want to initiate a discussion, but cannot do so.

That is my main issue, I keep doing things and going places, but the game doesn't seem to register that I've done them. Is there something I'm not doing that I'm supposed to be? It's getting sort of frustrating.

The pickpocket thing should only be an option if you're crouching.

Investigating the houses probably requires you to look at the dead bodies in one of the houses.

Dismantling the bomb in megaton requires a skill to be a certain level. Haven't played it in a while, think it was repair.

The game's filled with bugs, i've not encountered many where it wouldn't register them but they usually have very specific criteria for completion.

I think you need Science, too.

It takes a while before you have the necessary skills to disarm the bomb.

It's neither Repair nor Science. Get your Explosives skill up to 25 to disable the bomb.

EDIT: Like Zak said, it takes a bit. Not to worry, it's not gonna go off and vaporize the entire town. It's just really nice to get that damned apartment so that you don't have to shuffle stuff everywhere and constantly micromanage your inventory.

That showed me!

Stop lying to everyone, Dan! This isn't a good start for the new year!

At least i'm just lying, and not a drunk - like someone!

*cries, throws up, eats a cheeseburger*

Definitely don't worry too much about what's going on in the game, Zero. It sorta demands that you explore a bit and dick around some, and while some of the seemingly arbitrary entry rules can be weird, i.e. "Okay, that door was green and I opened it, why is the entire town trying to kill me now?", the entire experience is so rewarding that it's easy to overlook these sorts of things in hindsight.

That being said, cardinal rule - SAVE OFTEN.

I just got the game recently also, and I'm just having fun being distracted from and subsequently abandoning many side quests. You know, just like real life.

Just a reminder: It's a Fallout game, so if you're having trouble with a quest you should chomp on a bunch of drugs to see if that fixes the problem. Mentats can help you disarm the bomb because it increases mental stats which in turn increase some skills.

Now I'm flashing back to taking Buffout to increase my stats to finish the pornstar quests in Fallout 2.

Re Blood Ties - you need to investigate the bodies in the one house and talk to the residents in the other two before you can continue on the quest.

Yeah, I'm still 45 hours in and JUST rescued Liam Neeson from evil Pleasantville Not even close to done. I've never enjoyed doing fuck all in a game as much as I did here.

And with Assassin's Creed done, I pretty much need to get back to my fuckery in this game.

Also like real life! Fuck, I'm gonna end up playing this again.

I know. Recently I was watching both Panic in the Year Zero and A Boy and His Dog and I kept thinking how much I wished I was playing this game.
