Somewhere down the coast in the south of Brazil. Probably in Santa Catarina somewhere near Florianopolis.

I would like to wander and write a book. Preferably in another country. Maybe Australia.

That's not "retirement", but to me retirement is sitting waiting to die(in a nice place, hopefully). If I'm in good health, I was to spend my last years travelling, taking photos, and writing.

Buying an island, somewhere near Australia. It's not a light project... but I fell in love with the idea about 10 years ago when I took a few vacations sailing around the bahamas and the keys and going to places like Cancun and Cozymel. The experience of diving \ snorkling in clear crystal blue water and picturesque sandy white beaches just washes away any and all stress.. Next year I might be taking a month long sailing trip around the Pacific. Hit up some Costa Rica islands, the Galapogos ... mayyyyyybbeeee push as far as Easter Island. The goal is to try and find the perfect island local. As long as everything goes as planned, I should be retired in about 12 years. I hope satalite internet gets better by then ;)

Oh yeah dude, me too. I also hope global warming is just a wildly exagerated myth 'cause otherwise you're going to have to wear that snorkel permanently.

You realize that global warming is projecting like, seventy five to a hundred years out, right? So, even if I did believe in it... I'd be long dead before I have to worry about it. Also I note a bit of sarcasm in your post, I'm 34 not in my twenties.. 12 years from now I'll be near 50 and my daughter will be heading off to college.

Yeah, it was just silliness mate, I actually think your idea is pretty damn near perfect. The worry I might have wouldn't be satelite coms, it'd be pirates. I'd want to have Branson money before I lived Branson-like, because I'd want at least half a dozen bodyguards with fast boats and a couple of AH-64s on patrol if I was living way out on some island. Actuallly, make that a dozen bodyguards. Female bodyguards.

I'm down with the female bodyguards! in a big way! I'm more worried about breaking a leg or getting a serious injury and being in an isolated environment then pirates. At least with pirates there is a chance they'll just outright kill you.. meanwhile say you're working on a piece of machinery and sever a finger... you're 40 minutes flight time away from a doctor or a hospital.. that's scary!

Fortunatly, I have a guide on island life.. my brother retired last year and is just sailing around the world from port to port on a sailboat he picked up and the two lifestyles are going to be similar.. having to stock up on supplies, rationing energy, being isolated etc.. Keep in mind, chicks melt at the thought of going on a sailboat however try as I might, I can't convince my brother to let me borrow it for a week without him being the Captain (How I Met Your Mother reference)
