A quick question, a bit frivolous perhaps, but it interests me none the less. Saturdays are slow on CHUD so I hope no one is bothered by this semi-whimsical poll

I, and many of my friends, are for the elimination of the Senate of the United States of America. I no longer feel it serves it's intended purpose, and frankly it ends up doing more harm than good these days. The bicameral nature of our legislative branch come unmoored from purpose, and it's acting as an anchor on the ship of state, bringing the government to a grinding halt. Now, I know the arguments for it's existence, I just happen to disagree. And I know there are big names in politics that are privately talking about the same thing. Sure, it may never happen, or if it does, it might take 200 more years, but I like to think about it all the same.

Anyway, the reason I bring that up first is to say that the question I'm polling would realistically only happen in a world without a Senate (for reasons that will soon become clear)

At the birth of America, Massachusetts held an honorable distinction, unique among all the states. Massachusetts was once the first state in the nation to receive the light of the sun on each new day. You see, Maine did not exist till Massachusetts was torn asunder for political reasons relating to the ratio of slave states to free states. We voluntarily split our state in two, just to insure that the balance of power did not tip into the hands of the immoral slave owning states. You see, by becoming two separate states, we gained two extra senators.

But those reasons are long since forgotten, and now hardly a man or woman is still alive who remembers the former majesty of Massachusetts.

So, in a world without a Senate, I'd like to see our states rejoined. Massachusetts would again be as it was at the founding of our Nation, and the natural order of things restored. Without the issue of New England losing senators, what reason would their be not to do this?

PS Ack! I just got in a giant fight with someone at my job when talking about this, somehow it spiraled into a global warming discussion and I do not take kindly to people who start talking about "climate gate" to me.

EDIT! Oh no! I forgot to click the "add poll" thingy. So you can just type your reponses
