Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend.

The most infamous anime of them all! this is the one that started the whole hentai trend and became very controversial.

It's about a 5000 year old legend that foretells that a demon-like god named Chojin who will possess a human being then create a world of demons, humans and man-beasts. A man-beast named Amano searches in Tokyo for the person to become the Chojin as he fights various perverted demons in his way.

It's loaded with excess like gore, graphic animated sex, tentacle rape, mutilation, exploding heads, eyeball mutilation, transformations, bisexuality, and everything but the kitchen sink. It earned it's NC-17 rating for a good reason here in the US including a "Warning: Absolutely not for children" label on the videos and DVDs, one of my favorite animes since high school in the late 90's.

My friends and I got high and saw the midnight showing of it at our local rep cinema a couple of times in college. All I really remember about it are giant tentacle penises ejaculating laser beams and destroying Tokyo and a seriously juvenile approach to high school sexuality. Later in life I found out that one of my friends became a furry but I can hardly blame this movie no matter how much I want to.

It's actually about college students, not high schoolers. Who else loved the line Amano said "You fucking Makei are all the same, one little sniff of pussy and you loose it"?

Holy crap, my buddy and I were talking about this just the other night. He was saying how he's been unable to find the unedited version anywhere (although I doubt his searching skills). I need to find a copy to send to him as a surprise, since the last time we saw it was in college (shocker), in the mid-90s.

Used to own the unedited DVD back in High School. Only watched it a couple of times but it definitely stuck with me. Ended it up selling it on eBay for quite a bit more than I payed for it.

There's only one thing I really remember about these movies.....

Yes, I did watch a few of the sequels/episodes... Outside of the WTF factor, I still am not sure why...

Anyone thinks this movie gave anime a bad name back in the 90's? i mean it made people think of anime of this stereotype and why people shun anime.

Which is a bullshit argument, because anime like all other forms of entertainment follows the rule of '80% forgettable, 15% memorably terrible and 5% excellent'.

Urotsukidoji just happens to fall within the '15% memorably terrible' ratio.
