Evil Dead Trap

Today I went to Best Buy to pick up Seven Samurai CC but I only had $20 so I did what I normally do and browsed to horror section. I heard a lot about this and I love Japanese horror so I picked this up. I loved the movie. Some of the deaths in it kicked ass and I loved the little score that went on every now and then even though it was always the same. I heard a lot about the ending being wierd and fucked up, and I completly agree. It was fucked up but I don't think it took anything away from the movie itself.

I loved Evil Dead Trap.. I won a copy at the showing of at Rue Morgue in the summer. And I just recently rewatched it..

Truly gory. I personally dug the ending. I thought it's better than most slasher flick movie endings. It's different but not bad!!

Two thumbs up!

A pretty good movie, if I may <a href="http://www.creature-corner.com/reviews/evildeadtrap.php3" target="_blank">say so</a> myself.

And you can't go wrong with Best Buy's $14.99 price tag, not to mention the simple fact that not having to import it is reason alone to buy it sight unseen.

EDT is a great Japanese horror flick but the sequel, not so good but not the worst.

Pretty much the same thing happened to me, Samurai. I was in a Best Buy, just browsing the horror section, when I stumbled on a sole copy of EDT. I had read much about it and how crazy it was, so I figured why not? I loved it, and didn't mind the ending one bit. In fact, I quite enjoyed it, so it's nice to see some others who did too. The only part I thought was a bit too tasteless and unnecessary was the rape scene, but what can you do?

Great deaths, over-the-top plot, cool Goblin-esque score, all-in-all one of my favorite Asian horror films so far.

It also has one of the funniest commentaries I can recall...not that people with strong accents are inherently funny...but....ah hell, they are here !

I just got this movie today. Wow, It's like Argento and Fulci had a Japanese love child. The ending was weird, but it wasn't like it didn't fit. The score is very Goblin esque and fits the movie well. This is the first Japanese horror film i've ever seen, and i know i'l be getting more soon. Has anyone here seen Audition? It was in the Best Buy horror section and i almost bought it too.

Seconded! Audition is easily one of my favorite horror films of the last several years. I was truly blown away by this film, and watched it again later that same night. A note before viewing - do not watch any trailers for it, read any info about it, or get any other kind of hints about the films subject matter if at all possible. Also bear in mind that this is not so much a horror film as a drama, IMO. The majority is spent on terrific character development, and many have complained of the film being "slow" because of this. Don't believe them. If you approach it as a typical "horror" film you will be sorely dissapointed, and probably will find it slow as well. Try to go in fresh, as I did, and let it take you for a ride.

Be sure to tell us what you think if you decide to watch it. Off the top of my head here are a few other terrific Asian horror flicks I love:

Kwaidan - A true horror classic. It's old and expensive (it's a Criterion DVD), but the visuals alone are worth the price.

Freeze Me - A twisted little flick in a similar vein as Audition, as it deals with the female perspective and how they deal with their "place" in society.

Perfect Blue - It's animated, but it's full of a giallo-esque atmosphere and psychological twists. Worth a look.

Here, here! Well said.

Perfect Blue, though a cartoon is excellent. If you like Manga or are willing to give it a try, I second Kiteless's choice. Which reminds me, I do need to break out my copy, it's been a while.

As for EDT, yeah the flick is great. The ending? Made me ask myself if I was fryin'. Cool movie, okay ending. Overall good stuff.

And yes, Fulci would have been very proud.

For those who haven't seen Evil Dead Trap, the trailer is at the Synapse site:

I would like to second the warnings/recommendations about how to watch Audition above. The first hour or so of the movie plays like a cute little quirky romantic comedy, getting you into the characters, having some genuinely endearing and embarassing scenes as the protagonist looks for love and seemingly finds it. Seriously, as a romantic comedy, the first half is gold.

Then it all goes to Boschian Nightmare Hell.

A lot of people I know had a problem with the final revelation of the killer, but for me, that was what made the movie halfway worthwhile. It was just the usual slasher junk until the ending, which somewhat redeemed it for me.
