MObile Broadband

Every time I go to Sundance I'm fucked by lack of internet at my condo. I'm thinking of getting a mobile broadband card for my laptop this year, but I've heard conflicting things from people. I'm interested in what folks here have experienced.

Also, because I am lazy and don't feel like taking 7 seconds to look it up on Google, do I have to sign up for like a year of mobile broadband or can I just go month by month when I need it?

You have to get a longer term deal. I wish I could unbuy mine.

Yeah, they sign you on for a contract, which pretty much fucks you right then and there. Since I'm lazy too and don't want to look it up on Google either, does the iPhone/your mobile provider allow tethering (where you use your phone as a modem)? That might be a workaround as long as you're not going hog wild with bandwidth.

It's SUPPOSED to at some point.

Are you using Clear, Nick?

Yes, they will try to fuck you nicely with a year long contract, and regular ETF fees. I guess you could break it, better than paying $50 per month for a service you're not using.

What about a tethering app? Is there a tethering app for the iPhone or no?

Umm I have a nice little app on my iPhone that routes my computers traffic to it. Basically a wireless tether, but I don't get charged for it. ATT does place a limit of 5 gigs, so I use it sparingly.
