I don't even think that a single party should have that much power in the first place. But if it provides Dems with some impetus to get their shit in gear, then so be it.
The things is that no matter who won this one, we were destined to lose. Coakley would have been preferable, but only
barely. Meanwhile Brown will be out in two and a half years, and in the interim he's the minority in this state. There's only so far he can lean to the right without risking his potential re-election. So think of it that way and it's not quite so bad as you might think.
The real crime in this election is that a seat we've held for around three decades was lost because the Democratic candidate approached her campaign with a dearth of energy. Her campaign was lethargic to non-existent; she thought, once she won the primary, that she had this whole fucking thing in the bag, and her inactivity cost her party Ted Kennedy's seat. "But it's the people's seat!" Fuck off. The seat of the man who spent his life fighting for reform is going to Scott Brown. Think about that.
It's not a disaster, or a catastrophe, but it is a gigantic embarrassment. Coakley, come on, you were born on third base and couldn't reach home. Give me a break.
