The republicans were able to get every stupid assed pork barrel/military-industrial-complex/wall-street-sucking they wanted when they were in a less than 60 seat majority from 2003-2007. Why can't the democrats?
How do you reconcile with a bunch of right-wing dumb fucks? A bunch of dogs that barks without ever listening? Because it's what the Repuclican party is today.

It's their strategy for re-election. They no longer have George W. Bush as their "WIN" button, so they have to villify the GOP has obstructionists and 'eviiiil' just look around here at the saps that believe it. It gives them ammunition for reelection as well as Obama ammunition for when he breaks campaign promises because he can't send a bill back that has 60 votes, it's veto proof. Neither party is good and we're stuck with a choice of a fast train to hell (democrats) or a slow one (Republicans), either way we're fucked.

At a press conference today, U.S. Sen. John Kerry called on Scott Brown to tell his out of state supporters to put an end to the bullying and intimidation tactics of the past few days.

Recent media reports have described a range of these outrageous tactics, ranging from the theft and burning of lawn signs to threatening comments posted on the Facebook pages of Coakley supporters to death threats posted on Coakley’s own Facebook page.

Meanwhile, at a West Springfield event on Saturday, when a Brown supporter yelled “Shove a curling iron up her butt!” in reference to Coakley, Brown himself smiled in acknowledgment of the threat.
And am I the only one who loves it when Snaieke, who's been pretty much absolutely wrong about everything political for the last several years, jumps in a thread to call people here "saps"? Hey Snaieke, look over there, Sarah Palin's top button is undone!

Everything good that Clinton attempted during his administration was done during 1993-94.

-The Assault Rifle Ban (which I have turned against in recent years)
-Cutting the Deficit
-Trying to get gays in the military
-Health Care reform attempts.

Clinton was pretty useless from a progressive point of view after 94.

-Welfare Reform was good, but they should have focused on the corporations first.

-Glass Siegel getting repealed

-His stupid campaigns against tobacco companies and violent movies.
Plus,

The republicans taking back the Senate and House means that he will have to face stupid congressional investigations like his Birth Certificate or his actual shaddy lobbyist dealings that EVERY FUCKING PRESIDENT DOES.

Obama will be fucking useless after tomorrow if Brown wins.

Obama better fucking repeal don't ask don't tell the minute after novembers election.
Eh, Coakley is coming off like a lemon of a candidate. She is running for office in a heavily Democratic state with support from Obama, Clinton and the Kennedy family and it is still "too close to call". Even if she manages to win, it is ridiculous that so many big names had to be called in to help her out.
She managed to insult nuns, the Red Sox, people who go to Fenway Park, and stupid people in one day on the trail. She's kind of a horrible candidate.

You're a phoney and a fake Jacob. You admitted so in a post a couple of months ago that you trolled the 2008 election thread, not worth me refuting your bullshit.

If Brown wins, a good part of the reason is arrongance on the part of the Democratic machine in Mass. They choose a weak, uninspiring candidate and thought she would be elected as a matter of course, and did not run much of a campaign until brown skyrocketed in the polls.
Stupid,stupid,stupid.

Agreed. It's like the Democratic leaders in Mass thought they could force whoever they wanted down the throats of the voters.
I hope she wins because I do not want to see the Tea Baggers empowered, but I hate having to support such incompetence.
The Democratic Party is in the state of meltdown. The republicans had 12 years in congressional power even though they were useless on any major domestic agenda after they started going after Clinton.

The Democrats at this rate will only have had 4 years even though the country has gotten more progressive over the last decade. And half of that time was spent cleaning up the financial mess giving to them.

This guy smells like Norm Coleman to me.

Yeah, I agree. Oh, and you spelled arrogance wrong.

Seriously, its shameful that the democratic party is in the state that its in. That Bush could get away with war crimes without a Republican senate majority and we might not be able to pass a weak health reform bill because we might lose a senate seat from fucking Massachusetts is beyond pathetic.

Jon Stuart said it best on the Daily Show tonight: "Its not that the Republicans are playing chess and the Democrats are playing checkers, its that the Republicans are playing chess and the Democrats are in the nurses office because they accidentally glued their balls to their thighs."

Well it's election day. I have faith, I hope you do too. If you're in MA, remember to tell everyone you know to vote. I say that to you regardless of party. It's your sacred franchise, and if you feel you're informed enough to vote intelligently, than please go ahead and do so.

I have posted an election day message on my blog party, to rally the troops as it were. Feel free to check it out.

While I disagree with you on this forum, you're not a douche. Snaieke is.

And Prankster, I guess I fortunately missed Le Douche outside his natural habitat. Let's hope my luck holds up.

Anyone know of any websites that have results of exit polls and the like up and running already?

Seeing as how polls close in 5 hours it would be nice to have an idea.

According to Politico, Brown said he wanted to show Obama "my truck and play some basketball with him".

See, bipartisan!

Yep, that's probably going to be our new senator! What a looker.

I feel like he should always be naked and always be in his truck. Even in congress. I'm really disappointed in my state right now. Coakley was a terrible candidate, but still. Ugh.

Only Democrats could be inept enough to lose such an easy seat.

How do you fuck that up?

I can't believe any more than 30% of any voting population would go for a Bush-style neocon after only a year. How soon they forget. I predict the Senate Republicans will bring your government to a standstill, or Democrats will just move further right to placate them.

Too bad, because Republican-style conservatism is poison.

BY trying to force somebody down the throat of the Mass voters not because she was a good candidate, but because she was liked by the party bosses.
Now it's a bad situation for the Dems. They can:
A:Pass a watered down Health Care bill that does nothing
B.Use Reconciliation. The problem is that is the nuclear bomb of politics; it gives the GOP a issue that the Dems used a sneaky parlimentary procedure to force it through the congress. Of course the GOP used it a few years ago, but that is sort of irrevelent.
C.Just give up and fall apart in bickering.
I think A will probably happen.
And some Chewers will be reminded that their "Hard Left" positions are held by a small minority of AMericans, right or wrong.\
If the Democratic Party leaders in Mass had any decency, they would all resign as incompetents. But that will not happen.

The real problem is the Dems are badly divided, with the BLue Dogs afraid for their seats.
Frankly, to some people here any thing other then a Left Wing position is Poison.

Jon Stewarts evisceration of the Dems in regards to this yesterday was priceless.

Seriously tho - how can anyone on the left not throw their hands up in despair that they have to be represented in mainstream poilitics by these clowns that are as useless as tits on a bull?

We have a similair problem with our 'left' party here in Oz and it's fucking demoralising.

In the grand scheme of things, CHUD is largely populated by individuals who could be called moderately liberal, even at their most strident. This shift to the right of what defines the center in American political life is one of the biggest challenges facing moderates and liberals now.

CNN is saying Brown has it. Awesome.

Not quite. There was a special election in Mass that elected Coakley (and Brown for that matter) to run for the seat. The "bosses" didn't just pick her.

Granted, none of our democratic choices were terribly solid.
My god, dudalb. We live in a very conservative country. You really think most of us are sitting around going "we live in a beautiful, liberal country that's constantly brought down by the MAN!" We can't even give gays civil rights for fucks sake.
Brown wins by almost 10%.

Dems are fucked in November. They don't have the cojones to win, which infuriates me.

And as for 2012, well, that's still 2+ years away, so I'm not gonna start predicting, but shit better start happening SOON. And I mean SOON.

The Dems should either have pushed Health Care Through much quicker then they did, or they should have waited until the economy was in better shape and then went for it. Instead they adapted a strategy in which they get the worst of both world.

I don't know what a Blue Dog specifically is, but the Democrats are not, by and large, impressing their constituents as is. That's how it looks to me, anyway.

The Republicans are poison. Sorry, but they are. You don't have to be leftist to oppose torture or think that creationists who will cater to religious interests to the point of personally intervening in the medical decisions of private citizens would make bad leaders. To this day I am shocked that allegedly decent human beings (note: I said human beings, not conservatives) will stand before a camera and proclaim their support for torture. When I see that people will cheer and vote and lie for them, shock is not enough and I am forced to resort to astonishment.

My biggest problem with this is that Brown and the Teabagger Constituency come across as having absolutely no interest in running a government, period. All we've seen from them is impotent rage. No attempts at solutions, no beliefs in "bipartisanship" (goddamn it, President Obama, dump the wholeheartedly naive and frankly stupid idea that you can compromise with them already), and not even any practical ideas.

They've run rampant with an agenda to sink a fucking healthcare bill that, in any other political scenario where the Democrats weren't holding a modicum of power, would be considered bipartisan. After that, then what?

I know none of this is new news to most of the people that follow politics on this board, but there's still a sizable portion of people who don't seem to be grasping it.

What does the right genuinely have to offer other than obstructionist politics and "Well, at least we're not the other guy" at this point? Anyone? Because this "all or nothing" bullshit from you dudes needs to go.

I don't even think that a single party should have that much power in the first place. But if it provides Dems with some impetus to get their shit in gear, then so be it.

The things is that no matter who won this one, we were destined to lose. Coakley would have been preferable, but only barely. Meanwhile Brown will be out in two and a half years, and in the interim he's the minority in this state. There's only so far he can lean to the right without risking his potential re-election. So think of it that way and it's not quite so bad as you might think.

The real crime in this election is that a seat we've held for around three decades was lost because the Democratic candidate approached her campaign with a dearth of energy. Her campaign was lethargic to non-existent; she thought, once she won the primary, that she had this whole fucking thing in the bag, and her inactivity cost her party Ted Kennedy's seat. "But it's the people's seat!" Fuck off. The seat of the man who spent his life fighting for reform is going to Scott Brown. Think about that.

It's not a disaster, or a catastrophe, but it is a gigantic embarrassment. Coakley, come on, you were born on third base and couldn't reach home. Give me a break.
