I had no idea this was a burgeoning subgenre. As if all the literally hundreds of Anita Blake clones weren't bad enough. Ugh.

How long til My Boyfriend's Back and Kissed get remade?

Speaking of Mandy Lane, when in the world is it ever going to be released?

It's a shitty sub-genre, but I suspect that Levine can do something with it that cuts through the inherent shitty and lazy qualities it possesses.

Everyone knows the Zombie Romance genre climaxed (stupid pun, not sure whether it's intended) with Dead Girl.

So let me get this right... This is about zombies falling in love, not human falling in love during a zombie apocalypse? That's fucking retarded.

While the script of the WACKNESS was strong, it was the heartfelt and funny direction that made the movie really shine (plus the excellent work of Kingly, The Main Actor, and Thrilby). I'm curious to see more of his writing, but I'd much prefer to see a new directorial effort

To anwer Devin's question from the news article:

seriously, what the fuck?
I can only answer "I don't know". I sort of like zombies but found them a little too scary as a kid. I watched the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and soon zombies became a staple of my childhood nightmares.

The only zombie books I've read were adaptations of the Resident Evil Videogame series (because I was too scared to play the games themselves), and WWZ.

I've been known to casually enjoy Austin in the past, but not like my Mom or little sister do. They have endless Austin movie marathons, and I've just never been able to summon the enthusiasm for it. To me, it seems like Austin only ever wrote 5 books, and they are all basically the same. So the idea of watching the P&P miniseries followed by Emma followed by the S&S miniseries is kind of mind numbing for me. I need more variety to capture my attention. I can ask them if a zombie romance book would interest them, but somehow I think I already know the answer

So, why are these "hip", witless mash-ups popular? I cannot begin to imagine. I have no idea who'd they appeal to

I'm one of the 100 people who actually bought the self-published book, and it's FAR BETTER than is being reported.

The "zombie falls in love" is the hook, but not really what the book is about. It's more an exploration into what makes us human and alive and exploring human relationships. It also explores the ideas of memories and identity and other interesting themes.

It's really really good. There's a reason why this self-published guy got a good book and movie deal before his book even sold.

The book is now out in the UK and is getting some great reviews. If you live in the UK, (or have some way of buying UK books from Amazon) you can get it here

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Warm-Bodies-.../dp/0099549344

It's coming out in the US in March

Couple of blurbs

Quote:
A mesmerising evolution of a classic contemporary myth --SIMON PEGG, actor, writer and director

'Warm Bodies' is a strange and unexpected treat. R is the thinking woman's zombie - though somewhat grey-skinned and monosyllabic, he could be the perfect boyfriend, if he could manage to refrain from eating you. This is a wonderful book, elegantly written, touching and fun, as delightful as a mouthful of fresh brains --AUDREY NIFFENEGGER, author of 'The Time Traveler's Wife'

'Warm Bodies' is a terrific book - a compelling literary fantasy which is also a strange and affecting pop-culture parable --NICK HARKAWAY, author of 'The Gone Away World'
Few reviews

Simon Pegg loved it, so it can't be all bad

Here's the short story it was based on (which is prettty much the first chapter of the book, though he's revised it a bit)

As I said before, this is a fantastic book. And now that it's out for the public to purchase in the US, the reviews are proving my point

His journey begins with no memory, no morality, only a hunger for the flesh of survivors and the rare feelings that come as he feeds on the energy, emotion and memory trapped inside that zombie delicacy, the human brain. But a particular meal, the mind of a once-idealist, now cynical young man named Perry, awakens something within R. He makes the first moral choice of his undeath and saves Perry’s girlfriend Julie.

Marion explores the meaning of humanity through R’s journey towards personhood, a tale that gets grander in scale as his empathy builds and the book’s true villains—cynicism, apathy and status quo—are revealed. His apocalyptic landscape includes a stadium-turned-refugee-camp, where order, diligence and industry have sucked most of the life out of the living. Julie yearns for more, collecting priceless works of art that are worthless to her military father. And R finds solace in Frank Sinatra and the Beatles. Together the strange couple battles enemies on both sides for hope in a hopeless world.

Marion’s characters are far from perfect. Their flaws give them a realness and depth that have the reader caring deeply despite the book’s brevity. Warm Bodies’ zombie tropes—moaning hordes of the undead, brain-eating, and zombies getting blown to bits—are almost incidental. This is one zombie story that won’t give you nightmares. It leaves you instead pondering that thing called life and cheering for a monster.

Really wish it didn't have that Stephanie Meyers blurb in the front, since I'm afraid it'll turn off people who would love this book. It's nothing like Twilight.
