Our only hope is the Lib Dems - and that aint saying much.
I just registered to vote. I know in my heart that David fucking Cameron is going to lead the Tories to victory, I just hope he has a hung parliament to contend with.

Seriously I hate this Broken Britain crap. It's such fucking useless pandering and it's even more hilarious that Ian Duncan Smith is apparently going to be the man to mend our Broken Britain. The man almost dismantled the tories due to how fucking weak he was.

we get 15 years of the Tories and Labour get it, we get over 10 years of Labour and chances are the Tories will get back in. We might as well have a two party system ....

I despair at the state of British politics.

I am sincerely at a loss as to how to vote in this election. I know not voting is a terrible answer, but I'm finding it harder and harder to consider giving my support to any of these corrupt, ineffectual buffoons. Brown and co are apparently either incompetent, on the take, or both. I fear the Tories will continue to pander to the worst instincts of the right, and will decimate public services while bending over for the wealthy. The lib dems seem inconsistant and incapable of taking a stand on anything, and don't have a a prayer of ending up anywhere near number 10 anyway.

Honestly, I'm not sure if there is a lesser evil at this point.

I may vote cthulhu.

I talked about this in a recent Chud Blog, the best option is to soil the ballot paper. It gets recorded and shows your want to vote but think all the parties suck.

I know, I just find it incredibly depressing. I'd love to have somebody on the ballot I could genuinely get excited about. Even if I don't agree with absolutely everything a candidate says, just a tiny amount of fucking sincerity would be nice.
Instead of voting for one of the main parties on a national level, why don’t you vote for whose going to better serve your interests as a local MP?

Like me, I'm probably going to vote Green due to the fact that they've been fantastic at representing local concerns.

That's what I did last time, I voted Tories because they promised Bristol a Tram service.

Indeed. In fact I had the same discussion with some cousins of mine the other day. Voting for the big parties is stupid as long as the status quo remains what it is. Voting for the wackos at the fringes is also wrong because they don't have anything constructive to say. Not voting at all is the stupidest thing you can do. So strangely enough, writing "Fuck you, you're all horrible!" on the ballot is the most sensible thing you can do.

Don't you?

Not really. There’s a very big likelihood we’re about to see a hung parliament in the UK and that’ll be a great demonstration of how carved up the votes actually are. Aside from the big three parties the Others (The Greens, BNP, Monster Raving Looney Party) are project to take a fifth of the vote which means at least one of those parties is going to have a little heft in the Commons.

Good lord not Nick Griffin.

That's part of what worries me, due to voter apathy there is a very real chance the BNP will get seats in parliment this time. (Thankfully not Griffin himself as he is an MEP)
I predict a 40+ seat majority for the Tories come May 7th.

(and for the record, I certainly won't be voting for Mr Cameron)

I think Question Time may have done enough damage to the BNP to curb their support. I’ve got a few friends in the anti-fascist league who seem to think that BNP support has dried up these past few months.

Given your suffrage laws, how relevant would that be anyway other than being a percieved embarrasment and disruption of the parliamentary process? Would a few seats for the BNP hamper the parliament in their descision finding at all, given the projected majorities?
It doesn't matter if they can influence the decision making. Having such assholes on parliament is bad for your mental health. Our own right wing bastards are much toned down compared to Griffin's party of cunts, but still whenever I see one of them speaking in the Parliament I want to jump through the TV and punch his head off.
Well, no argument there. Same over here when our right wing bastards manage to get a few seats in one of the local parliaments (hasn´t happened on the federal level since 1949 - so far).

But their ridiculous opinions and subpar behaviour have always let to them dismanteling themselves in a furious manner. And I do think that this can be a healthy process. But I am very curious how the BNP will fare in the long run. Like Geer Wilders it is gonna be interesting if right wing fringe parties, and even more islamophobe parties are here to stay in Europe, or a mere blimp on the radar.
A good mate of mine soils his ballot paper - and he works for the local council arranging voting and doing some of the counting. Which means that he actually makes more work for himself, as they have to fill out all these forms when the ballot is soiled.

Being as this is my first election as a British citizen, I'd rather make more of an impact on my ballot. Like voting for the the reanimated corpse of a proper socialist. My problem is, I don't know the old time guys in the UK, just the US. I suppose I could vote for Eugene V. Debs. That might actually show up in the vote count (that'd be funny) - but as he's ineligable because he's American (outside of the fact that he is dead), I just don't think that works. Any ideas?
Clement Attle and Friedrich Engels spring to mind.

Vote for me.
I'll vote for you Ken!

Hung parliament... jayzus, everytime there's a general election the press hypes this statistical possibility - it just won't happen.

The rise of the right has been exponential however it is still just a vocal minority, however the press tend to over play it as if it's the end of the world (natch). I expect that they'll get an MP somewhere this time, you guys'd be stunned by the amount of grass roots support they have - i very much doubt that their support has diminished - after all I would imagine most BNP supporters don't watch question time.

However, with voter apathy and general disenfranchisement we'll see a much greater amount of support for them and other right-wingers (UKIP etc) which will only continue.

i was wondering if anyone has trotted out the old "referendum on europe" chestnut? people always fall for that one...

I used to count ballots in manchester - I also used to open the postal votes (i even used to canvass to register voters in longsight! - I'm an avowed opponent of Democracy but at least I know why) and I can tell you that no-one gives 2 shits about a spoiled ballot slip, other than giving someone a chuckle or 2 they go in a pile and then get put in an envelope, that's it - it's not a statement, it doesn't make people think about the futility of the modern electoral system, you're just labelled a crank for 3 seconds and forgotten. I once opened a voting slip which had a tiny scripted essay on the evils of politicians and how everyone should live together in harmony. Another time, someone had wiped their arse on it - idiots, we can trace it back to you you know! it's not a secret ballot! do you think those serial numbers are there for fun?????

The only thing i would wish is that there is a 'non-of-the-above' box to tick, they have them most everywhere else I believe, however if there was one i truly believe that non would be returned as MP and prime minister in a landslide.

Voting for local reasons is admirable, however that politician has precisely NO fucking interest in your interests. Check it out, go to a surgery - ask about something you're pissed about and prepare to get a well-rehearsed run-around.

I know that the libdems have screwed up in local councils - especially in Liverpool (but let's face it the labour party & militants hardly did a stellar job on-and-off before them) but you did get a city of culture out of it (and world heritage for parts of the city).

Sorry to bang my usual drum but the system's fucked and there's no desire or impetus to fix it. Just be glad you're not in some totalitarian personality cult with fixed elections like north korea or the USA.

Hobson's choice motherfuckers.
My local Conservative MP has promised that if he is elected he will continue to vigourously campaign to make sure Prisoners serve their full sentence and continue his 'battle' against Political Correctness.

I'm trying to be objective, but I really fucking hate everything the Tories stand for at times.

Anyone catch the Tonight show interview with Cameron? As predicted they are focusing on the dead kids angle - I hate the media sometimes.

Also I love how they are trying to play how hot Camerons wife is and for some reason failing to notice Nick Clegg is married to a Spanish bomshell ..

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politi...10/8580542.stm

That may not be the best examples but It shows how biased our media is towards the so called main 2 parties.

So anyone gonna tune in for the PM/Leader debate tonight?

yeah gonna give it a watch, should be interesting

I'll be watching it. I have no idea why, but I'll be watching it.

Hah, David Cameron has a black friend and thinks that welfare have led to people 'milling about'. This is hilariously awesome.

"We need to treat drug users, but not give them more drugs."

Kweh!!!!

COLLEGES OF CRIME
It's surreal that the Lib Dems are demolishing the other parties here - as someone who votes conservative.

The look on Brown and Cameron's faces when the corruption was brought up - priceless!

It's great TV.
I knew you were a Tory.

Clegg isn't doing too badly, although he's sort of in a weird standby mode when other people are talking.

Apparently Brown and Cameron weren't told which Parties they're standing for.

"I believe in Standards"

No, you're labour. Salt of the earth, working class folks.
I don't think I can qualify properly as anything yet, i've no real formulated political ideals - the conservatives just happened to be offering better financial incentives for me and my family at the time of the vote.

If I didn't know it wouldn't be a wasted vote, i'd go Lib Dem. Really i'm quite keen for a hung Parliament.

Are you a dirty liberal, Spike?
I'm Green on a local level, Liberal on a National level.
The Green party had some great policies recently.

We really do need a hung parliament though. I'd be happy with anything other than Labour right now. Look at Brown squirm!
Clegg's coming across as a bit nervous and stuttery, I think he overdoes the "we're not like THESE guys" rhetoric, but otherwise isn't doing too bad. No one's embarrassing themselves though it seemed like some hits landed on Cameron earlier and Brown's probably keeping the coolest head.
I'd be nervous if I was Clegg. This is probably the most exposure he's had. Public speaking isn't something i'd want from a Prime Minister though.

Brown's used to this awkwardness from the repeated scandals. Means nothing.
All Clegg needs to do is not look like a twat - and when he gets the chance show up the other 2 as liars and cheats, it's the only way.

Go Liberals.
Holy shit Cameron just declared we need Nuclear deterrents to use against China.
I think, aside from the new season of 24 - best thing i've seen on TV this year.

Down with China!
And boom.

"GOD BLESS MY RETARDED DEAD SON"

It only took him an hour and ten minutes.
Bit of a disappointing last question, even if it's something relevant to everyone's family - something a bit more conflicting would be good. Nobody's going to say "Put the old bastards down!"

I'd say it was a good evening for the Lib Dems.
"We need to give all of our carers a one week break"

Wait, what?
Did he say that? I thought he was saying family members who are acting as carers get a week's break.

Giving carers a week's break is no good anyway - my Grandma's carer just takes time off whenever they feel like it. There's no repercussions. Availability of these people is a joke anyway.
Yeah, but how would do that. Just give them tickets to Tenerife and tell them to have a 'sex on the beach' on us.
Haha yes Gordon, the stupid British public have managed to stay tuned in to your retarded character defence despite there being no X Factor on!

I'm assuming there's scheduling made with an alternative carer? He didn't really explain it.

Maybe he is promising a week abroad! This party's sounding good.

I loved that. I almost expected him to call us FUCKING TROGLODYTES or something. He's actual quite loveable when he's being passive aggressive.
He's a big cuddly bear of a man. Spike, Welcome to the Jungle's on Five now - it's the perfect way to finish that man-on-man verbal action - CHRISTOPHER WALKEN!
Clearly I missed a magical moment in the history of British politics.

When's the next debate?
I really hope they rebroadcast this on CSPAN. Yes, I am a nerd.
