Netflix Instant View Heads-Ups

Thread Starter
Thought we could have a thread for people to let each other know when cool flicks are made available on the service.

For example, Park Chan-Woo's Vengance Trilogy is on there now. As is "The Host," which I have never seen and plan on remedying almost immediately.

Warner Brothers did their first dump of promised titles to Instant View last Tuesday. More are coming on the 26th.

Final Destination 3-D and newer titles are supposed to arrive on the 2nd of Feb per the agreement.
Forgive my confusion - will these coincide with the 28 day waiting period for new releases? I'm fuzzy on what the new policy is.

Watching Godzilla' Final Wars right now

I forgot how gloriously ridiculous this movie is!
I'm gonna check out World's Greatest Dad later. Also, there's been a ton of MST3K up for awhile now.

Big Fan Big Fan Big Fan

We're watching Friday Night lights as well.

By what WB and Netflix agreed, it applies to the new releases.

(hehe)

Ha! Just saw his Facebook status.

A lot of Kurosawa's films are up. I've just finished Seven Samurai. Top Gear had two series up but now they only have Series 10.

One thing that has been bothering me of late is how many sequels are up and when I haven't seen the first film it just sucks.
There's also how Netflix is fucking up my Quantum Leap fix. But, that's a bitch for another time.
Just found Oldboy on Instant View. It's one of those films I always read about but for whatever reason, hadn't had the time to actually search out. I'm really looking forward to it.

That also goes for 1924's The Thief of Bagdad & The Birth of a Nation.

Also finally caught Big Man Japan. I don't think my wife has ever been so physically annoyed with any other film I've had her sit through.

Had no idea this was on there. To the Instant Watch!...

...even though I'm supposed to be working...
If you liked Moon, the films Duncan Jones cites as inspiration - Outland and Silent Running - are both on there.

If you like Cassavetes, Husbands and Gloria are both on there.

If you like Hal Ashby, The Last Detail and Being There are on there.

If you liked Watchmen, Under the Hood and Tales of the Black Freighter are on there

Because I can't pimp the movie enough; JULIA. Check it out. Won't be disappointed.

Another underrated movie from last year, TWO LOVERS. Get that a shot.

Also, if you've never seen Used Cars, or haven't seen it in a while, there it is, awesome as always.

Some quality documentaries: Bigger, Faster, Harder, Stronger and Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired.

Newest Oliver Assays: Summer Hours. Atypical from him, but very good.

Some foreign goodies: 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. As well as the Baader Meinhof Complex.

ETA: Frozen River, good film from 2008. Really strong performances.

The most essential film listed so far.
Just finished a long-overdue viewing of the British Office. It really is as great everyone says. I hope that the American series get a capper that's half as sweet as that Christmas special, but I'm not holding my breath.
You know, with all the stuff available on Instant View, I'm seriously considering dropping down from the 3-discs-at-a-time plan.
Once Upon a Time in America is new on there.

Also: In the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category, Howard the Duck is listed as "hottest." WHUT

Every so often they'll have something that isn't actually on American DVD yet. This article is old (Rolling Thunder, sadly, is no longer on there).

It's been working for me. One disc at a time is all I ever really need, and I sometimes forget I have even that with all of the Instant View options.
It's been mentioned on the main site and (elsewhere on the boards probably) but it bears repeating: Criterion has a ton of good stuff on there, including new releases like GOMORRAH and the complete CHE, plus too many classics to list.

Some others that got me excited recently:

YOU, THE LIVING
THE HEADLESS WOMAN
GOODBYE SOLO

Or, on the somehwat lighter side,
HUMPDAY
SLEEPING DOGS LIE

Harryhausen fans: JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD, and CLASH OF THE TITANS are all available

Honestly, people complain about the instant watch selection but it's actually quite good. Sure, it pales in comparison to the regular DVDs but there's always good stuff available. Looking through my queue now there are way too many gems to list at once.
I just dropped from 3 discs to 2. Not sure I can go to 1, but perhaps.
Possibly dumb question based on laziness/not enough time to Google it - is your instant queue limited at all if you go from 3 to 2 (or 1) discs? I could have sworn I read something to that effect a couple of weeks back, but I'll be happy to hear that it's wrong, especially since I'd like to start saving a little extra money here and there and that's one of the corners I could cut.
Great news: Gooby is now available on Netflix instant view.

Also, The Thin Blue Line.
Damn, I was thinking of bumping up to four. Then again, I'm contemplating a nearly insane movie watching project for this year.

The only time it's limited is if you go to 1 PER MONTH ($4.99) level. I'm at one at a time and there is absolutely no limit to Instant View.

This is pretty much what I've been doing. I use the actual disc rental for films I want to check out on bluray and there is so much interesting stuff actually on Instance View that one disc at a time is pretty much all I have time for.

Yep. I'm on the unlimited one disc per month plan with bluray access, Jake. No limit to Instant View that I'm aware of. Can't beat that for $11.65 a month.

Awesome, I was waiting for something to pair Dead Ringers with.
Good idea. They're both about mutant vaginas, although Gooby is way more on the nose about it.

Holy shit, is that real?
Yessir. A Weinstein telling Errol friggin' Morris how to talk about his films in interviews. I can't stop chuckling about that one.
That is fucking priceless. Made my day.
I like when he says that they'll hire an actor to pretend to be him for interviews.

If I was a director I would leap at that opportunity. I'd call the Weinsteins right away.

"Like, I can just stay home? I don't have to give any stupid interviews at all? And you'll hire an actor that will make my movies successful? Deal."

So, I already had netflix instant view on my Xbox. Then I ordered one of those discs for my PS3. Then when I tried to use it on Xbox again it acted like I hadn't done it before and gave me another activation code. So will it not let you use it on both systems? Anyone know?
It lets you use both.

When you're using it on the PS3, do you notice that the resolution is remarkably worse?

Flame and Citron was added to Instant Watch...I've heard good things.

Fletch and Fletch Lives. That is all.

I freaked when this arrived in my queue. It is very badass.
Werewolf of London just added. Is that the first Universal Horror film to go up? Cool.
Nice!

Pushers 1-3 have been up there for a while, in case anybody missed those.

Myup. Definitely worth the watch, especially 2.
The Warner Brothers thing didn't happen, I thought that was supposed to be a lock? What the hell happened there. The 1/5 titles are available for usual rental, but not on Instant Queue.
Cat people (1982)!
Just watched A Certain Kind of Death.

Pretty interesting documentary about what happens to dead bodies w/ no immediate family or next of kin.
A Certain Kind of Death might be the most interesting documentary on Instant View. It's one of those "wow, I can't believe this is on Instant View" movies. The mass burial at the end was fascinating.

Netflix Instant View Heads-Up: Baghead is available for instant view.

Parker's Heads-Up for You: Don't waste your time watching Baghead.
