Windows 7 Won't Load Embedded Quicktime Files

Hoping that some of the fine folks on the CHUD boards can help me out with this one, as I just spent the last two and a half hours trying to find a solution to this one with no luck. I'm running Windows 7 on my laptop, and using the latest version of Firefox as my primary browser. For some reason, whenever I go to a website that has an embedded Quicktime film, all I see is a black bar in place of where the player would usually be. I've got the latest version of Quicktime installed, checked all the MIME types, and even tried downloading the QT plugin for Firefox, but nothing seems to help. It's supremely frustrating as I am unable to play any of these embedded files. I would appreciate any assistance from the more tech-savvy folks out there. Thanks in advance.

ETA: I also tried to load the same page in both Chrome and IE, and didn't have any luck with either of those.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling quicktime and iTunes if you have it.

Funny thing, it worked for me on 1st install.

Yeah, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but that didn't work. I don't know what's going on here, but it's driving me nuts.

It's worked for me from the first install but the only problem I have is that I can't get the status bar under neath to be displayed. So if I'm watching a trailer at apple.com I don't see how far along in the trailer it is or the play/pause button. Can this be fixed? I use Firefox v. 3.5.7

Probably already did this but in Firefox.

Tools->Options->Applications (tab)

Yeah, did that, too, and I think I have all the correct file types associated with Quicktime. I've spent an inordinate amount of time now on Google, the Windows support site, and the Quicktime support site trying to find a fix for this problem, but none of them are proving to be very helpful. The weird thing is, the same thing is happening in Chrome and IE, so I know it's gotta be something within the laptop or Quicktime itself. I'm stumped.

That's exactly the problem I'm getting, except it's not limited to just trailers at Apple.com. If there's a soundfile embedded at a site, like the one found here, all I get is the black bar instead of a status bar. Guess I didn't explain it very well.

A friend of mine was looking into my problem, and she had this to say:

These people are facing your problem as well -- and if you scroll to the end, they have a possible solution for Windows 7, as Windows Vista was also doing this for awhile it appears.

Also, this:

And just so you know you are not alone, here they are talking about it at Apple's forums, with the same solution recommended: http://discussions.apple.com/thread....art=0&tstart=0
I haven't tried it yet, because I'm not near my computer, so I don't know how effective this is. Anyone care to chime in either way?

What exact computer do you have? Could this be something affecting certain computers? My eeePC (which I love by the way), is running 7 with no problems (its in fact running better).

I have one of these. So far, this is the only issue I'm having with Windows 7. I really like this OS, and this is a minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things, but I would like to get it figured out just for my own peace of mind.

Set your compatibility of your browser to XP

It is an issue with running 64 bit windows. I saw your computer is 64 bit.

I'm sure your answer is in that thread as well if my idea doesn't work. Several people got it to work. I'm sure Apple is taking their own sweet time to get something to work on Windows.

Yeah, that sounds similar to what my friend found when she looked in to this. Thanks so much for the help, Sairus. It is very much appreciated.
