Romero's SURVIVAL OF THE DEAD Attacks Theaters

Still having not seen Diary of the Dead (though I did watch the Amish bit on YouTube), I'm actually looking forward to this. I'm looking forward to see how good he can pull off a western, even though it is kinda disheartening that this is the only way for him to play around with other genres - filtering them through zombie films.

Nice. Hope I can snag an HDNet viewing if it doesn't play Philly.

This is what I was hoping for when Magnolia got it. Even with the memory of Diary of the Dead hanging in my mind I'm still really looking forward to this.

Mixing genres can be fun. A zombie western could be a blast, in the right hands. But I'd rather see some young buck try this than see the grand zombie master try what sort of smells like a gimmick. Let some young nobody try to make a name for himself with a gimmick. It's more acceptable. Coming from a venerated pioneer, it just seems sad.

I don't know if it's sad, I mean Romero has mixed it up style wise with the other Dead films. Dawn having the comic book feel and Land being action more or less.

As with Phil, sounds like OnDemand is going to be the best bet around here.

Alex, you did enjoy Land of the Dead, right?

Yes, for what it was. I saw it once in theaters and once on dvd and never feel the need to go back to it.

Diary was an abomination, though.

As bad as it is, Diary has its moments. Romero was getting wrapped up in his own social commentary, when it used to just simply linger in the backdrop for people to see or not to see.

I kind of dread seeing this; it's like Romero is trying to proove he still 'has it', and it's painful to watch.

Diary hurt so much because we waited 20 years for Land...and it was all right but full of missteps. Then Diary happened and suddenly waiting 20 years for another Romero movie didn't seem so bad. Diary made one wish Romero wasn't allowed to make Land.

I hope he redeems himself here; the movie would have to be an abomination for it to not look like a step up from Diary, and Devin's review gives me a little hope.

I'm really defensive concerning Land for some reason, but I hated Diary probably even more than most of you.

I didnt hate Diary, but I had a lot of problems with it. But I am looking forward to this one. My friend being a lead zombie and featured on the poster is a main factor, though.
