London After Midnight Questions...

Ive heard so much about this film...but since I trust the objectivity of this board (after all, us horror buffs tend to be brutally honest at times), I have a few questions:

1. Overall, is the movie good? Whats good/bad about it?

2. Is there an iceball's chance in hell of finding it? Is there any copy floating around? Any chance of it getting DVD treatment?

Lets hear it folks!

Uh.

Has anyone actually seen this movie?

Not the TCM version either.

The ACTUAL movie.

Well, I asked that question under the (perhaps false) pretense that the TCM version was pretty close to the original. I read that what was pieced together was nearly identical to the full version. (Before it was destroyed in that fire obviously).

In either case, who has seen the TCM version? How was it? And are there any rumors of a DVD treatment?

So much is lost from the film, I believe I heard that TCM's version mostly had stills to fill in the blanks spots.

Since my film history coarse way back when, I've always hoped that someone would find this film, unfortunately, I don't think that's ever gonna happen.

You won't find too many people who'll be able to tell you if the film is worth a damn (I'm sure it so is) because not too many people have seen it, like, NO ONE at all except those close to the surviving footage or whatever's out there.

London After Midnight is a lost film. And it's reputation is probably better than the actual feature. It was remade a few years later as Mark of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi. Tod Browning directed both.

The TCM presentation was a slide show of production stills. There was music and title cards, since it was originally a silent film. It ran about an hour in length. It aired on Halloween - so I started watching it, but I was torn from the set by trick or treaters. I recorded it but haven't watched it yet. I should give it another try and report back with a review.
