That 50000 Platinum Medbay upgrade is pretty much optional though, right?

I'm at the point now where if I ask Joker about the ship, he's like "GOOD TO GO, CAP'N!" The only thing I don't have is the additional probes upgrade and the medbay upgrade.

Definitely planned. I already got the gun setup from Garrus, the (seemingly kinda useless) med bay upgrade, the ship armor upgrade, and a bunch of weapon/tech/body armor-related odds and ends.

Man, Ashley's a fucking cunt to you if you meet her in this, so you shouldn't feel any loyalty to her. Besides, after Ashley, anything is trading up.
She's probably all like "YOU GOT ALL THEM ALIENS IN YOUR CREW SO THEY'RE TAKIN OUR JOBS AND I'LL BET THEY CAN'T EVEN SWIM"
Ashley? my baby mama? . That sucks. Even if you romanced her the last time she's still a cunt to you? I heard the romance choice could effect ME3. Yes it's dumb thinking so far ahead. lol
post #106 of 728
I wish I could take Ashley onto the ship and just have sex with Tali while I stare balefully at her.

You're so right on the money there. It's the breakthrough in the storytelling that amazes me most about the game. It really makes me wonder how much other companies will try to mimic that aspect and fail miserably.

I just got the Thanix gun upgrade last night. Pleased about that considering my lack of platinum. I have no idea why I don't ever seem to find any super platinum-rich planets. It was a struggle just to get the 15000 for the Thanix, let alone the other upgrades I've got.

And is it me or does that last casual outfit remind anyone of a cowboy? I usually use the default. After mourning the loss of my dead fish. Oops.
And I'm really looking forward to seeing how things pan out in 3. I've already gotten some hints here and there that some decisions I made in the first game won't pan out until the third. This kind of follow-through from game to game is some really revolutionary, truly next-gen stuff.
Why does everyone have such a hard time finding Platinum? My ship's hold is literally engorged to bursting with it. I could encase a planet in it.
yeah I got more platinum than lil' jon but fuck some of this stuff is still kinda hard to find

I'd suggest such folks go back to Omega Nebula and mine the hell out of all the systems there. Got plenty of platinum that way (well, like 40000 or so, but still).

As far as interactive storytelling, I've seriously been forcing myself to stay on my character's moral track and remind myself "you can play through again" rather than second guess myself on "OMG will this screw me over in ME3?" quibbling. Though I do often use the Renegade interrupts when a Paragon option isn't available.

I do almost feel bad every time I subtly (or not so subtly) screw over or sabotage Cerberus, though. They've actually been straight with me so far. My Paragon just can't get over them murdering Admiral Kohaku and the other heinous crap they've done.

I haven't had that much trouble, but I'm extremely obsessive/compulsive when it comes to collection quests like this.

Were you waiting to move on from the Omega Nebula until you'd mined every planet to "depleted" too?
I usually stop when it's down to "Poor".
If you haven't yet, I strongly recommend getting the improved mineral scanner as soon as possible. My holds are literally groaning with resources right now. I've capped out all of my possible research tress and I'm sitting at between 150k-200k Iridium, Palladium and Platinum, and about 20k Eezo. I don't fire a probe at a planet now unless it's scans as Rich.

My renegade Shep romanced Ash too and I thought it was funny that she ditches you for being an extremist for working for Cerberus. I even softened my usual "Pissed off biker in space" tone but she wasn't havin' none of it. Also... was it just me or did she show up a little too quickly after the boss fight against the Collectors? I mean... last I saw she was getting her ass stasis'd, then she just calmly walks in from stage right after the boss goes down? I sure as hell didn't free her.
Yeah, I stop at "poor" as well. Just a little too tedious after that. I've been finding plenty of all the elements except "Element Zero", but then again, I'm still early in the game. I've been able to research the scanner, armor and guns for the ship so far.
Oh and the poetry-laden break up email Ash sends you is comedy gold.
Another potentially dumb question: Just got Jack, do I have to do anything to be able to talk to her? That one part of the cargo hold is still blocked off and I went the wrong way and had to listen to fucking Zaeed wheeze and prattle on about his rifle and his toys.

EDIT: She got mad at me when I told her that we'd give her access to the datafiles later after getting her on board, but I'm trying to bang Miranda here, not her. Maybe that's the problem.

Between the elevator section and the place where the two engineers are, there's a stairway on either side leading down. That's where she is.

If you're looking for Eezo (which is already the rarest of the elements) you have to pay attention to the planet descriptions. Only worlds inhabited or (especially) formerly inhabited by sentient species will have Eezo, with an offhand chance that you may find a little bit on worlds that are listed as having been old battle sites or "outposts" and whatnot.
I've got the scanner now, too. I've got over 50k of Element Zero, over 100k of Iridium, like 9k for Platinum and 80-90k of Palladium. Who knew that lacking in platinum would piss me off as much as it does.

Jack's downstairs. After getting off the elevator, take either doorway that would lead you to the two engineers and turn before the second door. You should see two flights of stairs going down. Run down there and you'll find jack sitting on her cot surrounded by datapads.

ETA: Brad, as usual, beat me to it.

Ahh, thanks. I seldom read much of the descriptions of planets, I'll have to pay more attention. I actually enjoy the scanning minigame a little, it's a decent time-killing bridge between heavy action beats and heavy conversation beats.

Tell me about it! I like the fact that I currently don't trust anyone on my team execpt probably Garrus. Plus, Kelly on the Normandy also seems suspicious

I like when a game has writing complex enough to make you believe that the characters are something other than "space marine" cliches

What!? She ditches you! Glad I've been flirting around and not closing any opportunities. Miranda here I come unless Ashley comes back at the end and we resume our romance. Which I doubt will happen. So I guess the ME3 rumors are false about cheating on your ME1 romance interest.

It's kind of the opposite for me. I really like all the descriptions for planets. I think it helps with immersion and the world building aspect. The mini game while amusing (I like that they put the effort to include all the animation for the probe and scanning, ETC), is kind of aggravating. I wish there were better ways to get heavy metals than scanning.

I read all the planet descriptions when I played ME1, but this time I've been so caught up in the story and exploring that planet hopping seems kind of like an annoying chore. Plus, the new "fuel" mechanics make it a headache, IMHO.

Well, at least -one- potential survivor of your ME1 crew didn't have a character-reversal between games.

Ashley should've been chomping at the bit to join Cerberus.

Yeah, having Garris is rad. I like the little bits of dialogue you can choose, that only old friends/comrades would have, along with Joker and Doctor Chakwas... good times.

Though if you wander around the ship and talk to the crew and what not, they seem like pretty decent people, hearts in the right place even though they are still working for Cerberus.

Has anyone been to the Local cluster and Probed Uranus? EDI was rather disappointed in me for doing so.
Zaeed isn't very interesting. I guess his mission isn't too bad, but he really feels like DLC.

I like the trash compactor in his room, though.
And that Jacob mission... wow. "Dad."

I didn't expect that kind of resolution. It was on par with a good Twilight Zone episode.
I'm only about five hours in and loving this a lot, considerably more so than the first. Brad's right, this is the nearest I'm aware of that we've come to a fully interactive movie. For those who have finished, can I or can't I fuck Miranda? If not I'll be okay with Kelly 'Some of my best friends are aliens' Chambers.
About five hours in myself. I must have spent a good forty minutes pottering around the new Normandy talking to everyone and making mental notes of who the potential redshirts are. I got Zaeed and then went to get Archangel, I was expecting each mission to be shorter than Mass Effect's but all things considered I actually think the hunt for Archangel was just as long as the recruitment of Liara in Mass Effect.

I'm off to get the good doctor next time I load up and then I'm going to potter around the universe a bit before deciding who else I need. I already love the new characters, the voice acting seems to be massive improvement over the already great voice acting from the first game. Male Shephard in particular seems a lot better this time around. It's also great seeing my Shephard from Mass Effect 1 with all new, prettied up graphics. I also <3 the Termnius Black Hole gun so much, even if it only gives me one shot per mission.
"Puttering", not "pottering". Unless you have a kiln onboard the Normandy, that is.
Switched discs for Jacob's mission and the fucking shit froze on me. Awesome.

Pottering Around is a very old school British/Yorkshire term I think

But it's still acceptable.

(Please don't spoil me as to what happens in the story, FYI)

I am a bit paranoid perhaps, but when I see one of the characters give a strange look during a conversation, I'm never sure if it's just an animation problem or if they're hiding something. So right now Garrus and Joker (and maybe the chef) are the only people on my ship I trust. I suspect everyone else of having ulterior motives.*

Plus, the fact that they stated the ship is always watching you did little to put my mind at ease.

No, I probed Venus Jupiter** Neptune though. I'll try scanning that one when I get home though

. I was a little upset you couldn't land on Earth's moon like in the previous game.

* I do wish the game gave you slightly more control over your team. There are some people I'd never have brought on the ship, were it up to me. I don't like having people on board I'm not comfortable with. "Jack" seems far too dangerous to ever bring on a confined space craft, especially after the circumstances of her escape from SPOILERS the prison ship END SPOILERS

**SPOILERS The eye of Jupiter has a big deposit of ore in it, FYI END SPOILERS

EDIT: I have to add, Illium is one of the nicest looking videogame planets I've yet seen. Really stellar work on both the art design and the graphics.
If you don't want to be spoiled, don't be an idiot and don't keep reading the fucking POST-RELEASE thread. Simple as that.

God, the ending was so fucking insane. And that last shot before the credits roll, holy shit WHERE IS MASS EFFECT 3.

Lost Zaeed, don't know how, since everyone was loyal. And poor Chambers. Poor, poor Chambers. Half my human crew is gone because I got stuck at a point where the final mission was about to start, but I still had one loyalty mission to complete. I'll have to do better at saving the galaxy next time.

I've got my own theory now about what the Reapers actually are, but I have no idea if it's even remotely correct.

Gives you more motivation to go back, no? I have two goals for another playthrough: finish the loyalty missions in time to save Kelly, and find a way to take Legion with me to Tali's trial.

Just done the disabled Collector's ship recon mission.

That was rather creepy, the atmosphere was just dripping off my screen. well done Bioware.

Alex, we gonna see a review any time soon? Or is this a game you feel like you need 4 playthroughs before you can weigh in fully?

After you have "dinner" with her (the message she leaves on your terminal post-game clears up any doubts I had about that).

PK: thanks for inviso-texting that one EPIC SPOILER.
