SAW VI Director Sounds Thrilled About Future Of Series

Well, it HAS to end sometime soon, right?
The last one failed miserably. Now they are trying the 3D shit but it won't matter.

Surely there has to be more than just Paranormal 2 coming out this October. The failure of Saw VI should show rival studios what can happen once a bit of competition is introduced.

I've long theorized that the Saw series was more popular because people liked to go see Horror movies on Halloween than because people actually liked the movies. I think even the fans got tired of that series a couple movies ago.

They should throw competition at it every year. I'm still surprised they opened both Rob Zombie Halloween movies in the summer. They were both awful, but I think they would've done much better with the season tie in. Look at how much Friday the 13th made on Friday the 13th. People love that stuff.

Sadly the SAW movies always make a profit.

Man, i hope they also force him to do an audio commentary for the movie.

Yeah, but you know in 20 years they'll remake it or reboot it and this nightmare will begin again.

I imagine it'll be much less than 20 years. I could be wrong. The series hasn't gone to space yet, so there's obviously much more "creative" territory for the franchise to cover.

Yeah, but by then people will be claiming how nostalgic and great the old Saw series was and how it's blasphemy to even think of remaking a classic like Saw.

Yep. It's going to be a fun time to be alive! (sigh)

Plus, all the crossover potential. Jigsaw Vs. Chucky!

The Texas Jigsaw Massacre

And they's rebootin Leatherface after only 4 years or so.

I wanna see a cross over of Home Alone and Saw. I mean that little kid was waaay to smart to set up traps of mini death like that. If he gets his giggles from throwing bricks at people, he has to be evil.

Yeah. The FRIDAY THE 13th series started getting really crazy around this time. Shouldn't SAW do the same? I hate the SAW series a lot, so I'd love to see it go totally batshit on us. Space. Superpowers. Time travel. Whatever. Then maybe I'd actually check the film out.

I just had the task of telling my 83 year old mother that no, I’m not going to be allowed to direct the movie we were all so excited about when my family last got together, and that I’m being forced to leave town before getting a chance to see her again. Yes, I’ll be filming people getting tortured YET AGAIN. So we’ll have to put off me making a film she can actually watch for another year.

I’m not making this shit up.
Oh man, I feel really bad for that guy. It's kind of like the Conan situation. "Keep doing the thankless job (SAW/LATE NIGHT) and then one day we'll let you do what you really want to do (PE2/TONIGHT SHOW).

With that said, it kind of gives me the giggles to know that even the people making the SAW films hate them, lol.

Who on earth is the audience for SAW these days? I mean, I went to SAW 1 on a lark when I was in highschool. Admittedly I've not been a teenager for almost 5 years now, but are today's teens so dumb as to keep falling for those terrible movies October after October?

Greutert doesn't hate Saw, he hates the producers. If you've ever heard him speak, the guy had a hell of a time directing VI. And even then it garnered the best reviews of the series, at least as the sequels go.

Outside of Greutert, the guy to feel bad for is David Hackl. He's been working on Saw VII for over a year, testing the 3D process and such while Greutert was shooting VI. Two weeks from the start of production, Hackl's ousted.

If they really want to think out of the box, they need to take it underwater.

I went to see Saw V on a whim as that's all they had showing at my local cinema on Halloween (grrr). After that abortion I swore never to see another one, although this news makes Saw VII perversely tempting.

It always warms my heart seeing so much enthusiasm and love being put into a movie. Hopefully it will show in the final product.

And if they want to really ride Avatar's wave they should make the cast all Na'vi. This I would go to see.

What possible motivation could Lionsgate have for coercing a director who'd rather be doing something else? Surely there are plenty of equally skilled young directors who would jump at the chance to direct a Saw movie. Why do this?

Saw VI is the most competently directed movie in the series. It's like winning the Special Olympics, but...

Doesn't Lionsgate just normally hire anyone who has worked on a previous SAW film in some form, instead of hiring a skilled young director?

I don't think the point is having Greutert on Saw VII.
The point is not having Greutert on Paranormal Activity II.

Still, it's not the best move to accept an offer that is in direct competition with the upcoming project of the company that paid your rent for the last years. You simply don't do that unless people were assholes, but he worked for them for at least 6 years.

Now for the sequels... obviously both are fairly superflous and I'll take anything new in a second, but I gotta admit that I had a better time watching Saw VI than suffering through the cheap booh! moments of PA.

I know in my case, the first two Saw's were kind of the only thing remotely horror playing at that time and I checked them out. I gave up theatrically on Saw after part Two though.

Well, the last "Halloween" to open around October was Halloween 6 and I guess they theorize that the reason it didn't do well was because they showed it in the fall and not the fact that everything about the movie from production to promotion was a complete mess. Summer actually seems like the worst time of year to open these movies. It's usually long out of theaters by the time Halloween comes and it doesn't hit DVD/video until either around Christmas or the following year.

I imagine it would just be him angrily cursing out Lionsgate executives by name.

Greutert's commentary is chock-full of him diplomatically calling the producers idiots and assholes.
