Sounds good, really want to see them when they come to the Vic in Chicago.

Two nights at the Variety. Exxxcellent.

Dig the cover art, too.

Not to derail, but Isbell mentioned today that he's been layin' down some tracks of his own... new album due later in the year, I guess.

I'm seeing them at the Avalon in may in LA. I've never seen them live before so I'm very excited.

Good times ahead for you, my friend.

I liked his first one OK, was pretty indifferent to the second. I'm hoping he's finally ready to knock one out of the park.

Same here. I'm actually somewhat bothered by the fact that he has another one ready to go so soon. Neither of the solo albums quite hits like his best DBT work, and it seems like he's more concerned with cranking songs out than laboring over them like he must have with something like "Danko Manuel."

As for DBT's new one, I'm guardedly excited about them doing a big, loud rock album like Southern Rock Opera (which is what I hear this is). I thought Brighter Than Creation's Dark suffered a lot without Isbell, but if there's a an ideal, non-Isbell DBT template for them to work from, it's definitely SRO.

I actually really liked Brighter. I thought it was eclectic and really good. There was a little filler but for a 19 song cycle i thought it was great.

I don't mind another rock album but I was excited about the direction they were going with Brighter.

They're opening for Tom Petty on several dates of his summer tour. Bummer that doesn't include the Atlanta date. Bigger bummer for my friend who lives in Chicago and doesn't like the Truckers when I show up at his place and tell him we're going to the show.

New album's streaming here.

I've only been able to listen to it once on relatively low volume, but my first impression is that it's the best DBT album since The Dirty South. Mostly rockers, high Hood-to-Cooley ratio (which could be for better or worse, but Hood's on a roll here), some definite progress in Tucker's songwriting. It's also the most "fun" album they've done in years, and they pull it off without falling back on the redneck humor of the first couple albums. These songs should be a blast live.

For what it's worth, it actually doesn't remind me all that much of SRO.

Also, I just read that this is the first of two albums they're releasing this year. The other's called Go-Go Boots, and Hood calls it their "R&B murder ballad" album, whatever that means in DBT terms.

Dang, blocked at work. Thanks for the link, though.

Anyone going to the ATL shows this weekend? I didn't buy, and I think they're both sold out. They're doing an in-store at Criminal on Saturday at 3pm, if anyone's around.

And actually, they may do a Ustream of that in-store. They've been doing those lately. Keep an eye on the @CriminalRecords Tweeter on Saturday if you're interested.

Loving it so far. And I do think that Tucker's finding the right middle ground between Hood and Cooley. I don't know that she'll ever complement them as perfectly as Isbell did, but girl's working on it.

By the way, they're on Letterman tonight.

It's good, but I'm starting to feel like I know all the plays in their playbook. I don't know. I think I was such a fan for so long that now they can't really do anything to knock me on my ass. Part of that's my own changing tastes, I know. Still, it's a solid album.

It's too early to decide how much I do or don't like this, but I feel pretty sure it's going to end up my least-favorite of their "real" (ie, from Southern Rock Opera on) albums.

Not enough Cooley for my taste, but still a pretty solid album that loses steam after "Get Downtown". Someone said it earlier, but this is a huge step up for Tucker and "You got Another" is one of the highlights of the album for me. I'd group this at the top of their 3 "fun" albums, instead of anything they've done recently.
