Read any good books lately?

I've been on a military kick for the last year but now it's time for me to get back into horror.

I recently picked up Darness Falls. This thing has huge print and is short so I figure a day's worth of reading. I'll watch the movie first.

I just picked up Hell House by Richard Matheson, I actually went in to get another copy of I Am Legend but the hard cover is out of print and the paper back is on order. I might have to hunt around for a hard cover. Anyway I've never seen the movie adaptation of Hell House, is it any good?

The film of "Legend of Hell House" is fantastic! You're in for a treat. Screenplay written by Matheson as well.

HELL HOUSE the novel and its film adaption THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE are both shining examples of quality horror.

Oh yeah, but right now for me...

I just finished RED by Jack Ketchum. Its a revenge tale, and very very well done.

I am about to start SEX AND VIOLENCE IN HOLLYWOOD by Ray Garton. I have high high hiiiiiiiigh hopes for this one. BTW I know where to get copies of the 40 dollar hardback for 15 bucks personally signed to you by the author if you are interested.

And always while reading a novel I have a book of short stories by the bed also. Right now its Simon Clarks excellent Salt Snake And Other Bloody Cuts. Highly reccomended are his novels Vampyrrhic and Blood Crazy also. Sure fire, quality books.

Currently I'm reading a fantasy/horror series of books by Anne Bishop. They're called the black jewel series and I have to say I'm completely enraptured by them..

Not everyone's cup of tea. But I'd reccomend it to many of the card carrying members of the female sex on the board!!

I'm also trying to tackle Hyperion by Dan Simmons aswell. I'm finding it ever so hard to get past the first 60 pages.. But I've been assured that once I do I'll not regret it.. We'll see

Email here if you want to buy SEX AND VIOLENCE IN HOLLYWOOD for cheap, and help out a horror author at the same time!

Just recently finished 'The Ferryman' by Christopher Golden ( <a href="http://www.creature-corner.com/reviews/bookferryman.php3" target="_blank">review</a>), which was excellent, and I'm on to 'If Chins Could Kill' then 'From a Buick 8' as soon as I finish the script for 'Coraline'.

I have stack of books to get through again, life is grand.

I've had From a Buick 8 on my shelf for awhile. I'm a die hard King fan but damn he's gotten soft in his old age! I hope Buick 8 is a good one being his last, aside from the completion of The Dark Tower series which I have to reread from the beginning because all I remember about it is the gunslinger on a beach with a kid.

I loved From a Buick 8, but then I love anything by King. Except for the Tommyknockers. I hated that one for some reason.

I just finished "Fool on a Hill" by Matt Ruff. It's not horror, but there is a mannequin animated by an ancient evil stalking and killing people towards the end.

It's basically a contemporary fairy tale located around Cornell. Talking dogs and cats looking for heaven, Fairies, and an eclectic set of characters. A "black knight" and our hapless hero who can control the wind with but a thought. I dug it.

I thought about doing another review for the corner. I was thinking of finishing "American Horrors". It's a bunch of essays analyzing some of the classics. It's a good read. I suggest delving into it if you're into that sort of thing. Perhaps I'll finish it and send a review your way Johnny, but it wouldn't be for a few weeks... classes are going pretty strong.

Reviews are always welcome, so feel free, my brother!

Lullaby...that is what I am reading atm

Picked up The Lost by Jack Ketchum while at the Mick Garris signing at Dark Delicacies on Saturday. I've only read the first chapter (man, I'm too busy to read!) but already it's quality Ketchum-disturbing.

If you've never read any Lovecraft, now is a good time. Interest in his work is growing and we're likely to see more film adaptations. Also, I recommend House of Leaves to everybody. I was totally absorbed and facinated. Hell House is excellent. You can't really go wrong with Matheson.

God danm I'm in a sucky intellectual and creative funk right now and it fucking BLOWS.

I haven't read much aside from short fiction by Poppy Z. Brite (Are You Loathesome Tonight, fun fun stuff, love that gal) for the evening bedtime story and various passages of folklore and fairy tales and other random short stories. We at the Butane household like a good spooky story to be read aloud before dreamtime hits

The House of Leaves has been stagnating in my collection for over 3-4 years now, I can't seem to get engrossed in it.

The Ferryman is hanging out in my car mewling for attention and I have a pile of books on the bookcase who hate me.

I seriously need a good flu or something, I miss reading so much.

from what I've read (or TRIED to read) of Poppy Z Brite, I'd say he/she had "issues" growing up... eek!

I am probably the only straight male in the world who went through a Poppy Z brite stage. Then the fag-hagism shit just got too redundant. Gay characters are fine, but it seemed her entire world was homosexual.
Caitlin Kiernan is better imo. And as far as feminist noir-horror-weirdo-freakout-fetish stuff I need to pick up Christa Faust's CONTROL FREAK.

I loved lost souls and I fuck like a beast (listening to WASP right now!).

A mother sings a lullaby to a child
Sometime in the future the boy goes wild
And all his nerves are feeling
Some kind of energy
A walk in the woods and I will try
Something under the trees that made you cry
It's so erotic when your make-up runs

Listening to Porcupine Tree right now. Steven Wilson is a musical genious!
