God dammit.

Wait. What year did Jack & co. go to? I thought it was 2007. Now, I don't think so. Is the Asian guy a new Other leader and hippie guy a new Richard? Is this later in the timeline with MIB in charge? Was that Jacob Hurley saw? MIB can't impersonate Jacob, can he?

I'm very uneasy watching this episode!

Oops. Yeah, that sucked. I guess those guys didn't acquire it for mystical shit either then.

Teledork, yes.

English gets such a bad rap.

ETA: It gave us cocktail, scallywag (alt: scalawag), and "Christina Hendricks."
It's such a malleable language, and typing in it is far easier.

So...where's home then?
OK, looks like it is 2007.

Anti-Locke is uber-sinister! Yeah, where's home?
I predict that look on O'Quinn's face at the break to become many a thousand Internet avatar.

By that I mean, holy shit.

"I want to go home."

So.... The Temple? Or, off the Island?

Could home be heaven? Fallen angel type of thing? Nah, couldn't be. Don't want to go back that route.
Nice to see Jack and John without all the conflict for once. Hope it doesn't last.

ETA: And Terry O'Quinn's working on his Emmy for next year.
Richard was on the Black Rock. Holy crap, this show is insane.
Hah!

Dead is DEAD, bitches. Jacob's playing the MiB's game now.
Sayid: "I'm back, bitches!"

I wish I hadn't started watching Supernatural season four last night.
This show is the shit.
Not-Sayid = Jacob?

It's sad seeing real Locke after seeing that monster Locke. Miss real Locke.
I just wanna say that I am so, so, so very happy having this show back in my life, if only for a few more months.

Applause sign is lit. Applause sign is lit. Helluvva kickoff.
That's how you come out swinging.
Richard is very old indeed! That was quite the unexpected beatdown John delivered on him.

Great fucking start to the season. Loving Last Samurai dude.
Seeing Kaneda from Sunshine brought a smile to my face.

Im confused as all hell but Im loving it.
I'm so glad they're giving us this glimpse into the alternate/parallel/whatever timeline. I'm very excited to see how that Locke/Jack relationship is going to progress.
I was so hoping Richard would at least say MIB's real name before getting knocked the fuck out.

Ditto on the love of having LOST back on the air.
Biggest question of the night for me? Oceanic Jack's bleeding neck.

That's sort of what I was thinking as we watched that bit at the end with Locke and Jack. Terry O'Quinn was just the definition of subtlety and understatement. So beautiful to compare that moment with the Anti-Locke stuff just from a physical presence point of view.
Kate on the lam -- with Claire! Jack potentially miracle-surgering Locke pro bono! Drive Shaft junkie washout in lockup!

I wish I better heard Hurley's exasperated phone conversation about the Outback line for Mr. Clucks.

The alt-2004 threads are gonna be fun to watch, I think. One thing's for sure, the nuke going off affected events leading up to flight 815, going by all the inconsistencies.

So, bring on the siege of the Temple? Un-Locke: "I am very disappointed -- in all of you!"
Hm, I didn't put together the "chains" with the chained skeletons on the Black Rock. I thought it might have been referring to his immortality, or being bound by duty to Jacob...

Agreed, even if they fanned a few pitches. Nice and straightforward, answering nagging old questions while keeping us on the edge of our seats with new ones. Two obviously different timelines, and about seven tons of overthinking before this thread reaches five pages.
Holy cow that was awesome! So much bizzaro stuff going on, with such a weird spooky/creepy air about most of it. I kept popping in and refreshing the thread on my iPhone during commercials... heh heh. I'll say it again, HOLY COW THAT WAS AWESOME.

So many things to touch on and talk about but I don't want to ramble on too much, so I'll just join in on the conversation again tomorrow and leave off with this.

I wonder what happened to poor 'ol Miles with Sayid's dead body. He definitely had a 'reaction'... And probably some insight or confusion of his own as to what the heck is actually going on or went on with our favorite guy from Iraq.

Or possibly a reference to Prometheus.

Some of the musical cues especially were tonally different than what we're used to with LOST. An almost whimsical creepiness.

He probably couldn't "hear" him.
oh Boone, still as gullible as ever when it comes to John Locke....

and Jack and Locke as friends....oh man, I'm so curious to see where this alt timeline ep goes.

And the super mysterious bad-ass jungle Others FINALLY revealed.

And Locke Face. So fuckin' good.
Are you amped, because I am amped! Fucking awesome episode! My highlights:

-The statue under water. So has the island sunk in this alternate(?) timeline?

-Sawyer's anger. This is going to be the year Holloway gets some Emmy recognition. This was intense stuff!

-The MiB/Smokey reveal. Again, awesome. And I loved the scene where Bram and co try to create protection circles out of ash.

-O'Quinn as Smokey. Never before has he seemed so sinister.

-Juliet! Didn't expect to see her so soon. Sad she has to go. Mitchell is my favourite actress on the show.

-Richard "You"
-"Locke" "Me"

My head is kind of racing right now but needless to say Lost is fucking back!

This is what immediately popped into my head. Though I believe the Black Rock theory is probably correct. There's been so many rumors linking Richard to the ship. And I think the writers would think it a twist to reveal that he was one of the captives instead of one of the crew.
I just hope the whole alt-2004 plotline is not just about how destiny will still bring these people together. I have more faith in Lindelof and Cuse than that.
I loved that it answered questions AND gave us new things to think about. Not just questions, but new ideas for where the show is going. I'm still in the camp that there's got to be some religious allegory at the end of the day, but whatever the case it's fantastic to have it back.
I have a feeling that the sunken island is a result of Jughead blowing up.

ETA: I think Richard probably was one of the slaves on the Black Rock, but where is "home" for the MiB?
I want to see alt-2004 Charles Widmore. How long ago was the island submerged and does this fact alter his mission to return to the island?

ETA: Also, if Richard was one of the slaves on the Black Rock, then that makes it entirely possible that the MiB is Alvar Hanso.
I don't think there's any question about that.
Only one complaint. How can a show with this much popularity and budget have such piss poor CGI. The shark, the statue, underwater...it's like watching a bad version of Myst the game.

Heh I actually changed my mind about the Hanso thing, since we saw the MiB on the island when the Black Rock arrived.

The budget can't be that huge. No more than 15 mil per episode I'd say.
Oh, and I guess we won't be getting that Brahm flashback.

Overall I thought the premiere was pretty good. Bizarro Locke was definitely the best part. He's the most involving aspect of the show right now.

Japanese guy and Yet Another Ex-Deadwood Actor...I dunno. Seemed like kind of a lame couple of dudes for being at the top of the Others heirarchy, the presence they exuded didn't seem worthy of the pomp and circumstance of the temple, but I guess we'll see how it shakes out.

The alternate stuff was alright, mainly due to Locke and Jack's character work, but I'm far from thrilled to have Charlie back with us to be honest. Most of these alternate possibilities are not intriguing at all to me. I'm wishing we had some more sprinklings of surreal anomolies/inconsistencies to spice it up a little (besides Jack's wound), but that will probably come soon.

So, at some point both times have to become aware of each other. Did Juliet see or experience something at the nexus of the incident? Will the two time lines have to fight it out with the characters souls in the middle? That would seem to go with the whole choice/fate/destiny/redemption thing...

I was referring to the jughead comment.
My expectations were huge. They were surpassed.

LOVED the Jack/Locke scene at the end. I've been so obsessed with other stuff, that it hadn't occurred to me that Jack could heal Locke.

When Sawyer swore to kill Jack, I thought it was pretty clear that he would be the future MIB. His later disavowal didn't persuade me, yet.

I thought the first hour was one of the best episodes of the series run, so the 2nd hour suffered a bit in contrast. But still...I believe the correct term is "this goddamn show..."
