Since when is 'retard' bleepable? - Page 4

Colbert did a great piece also, culminating in calling Sarah Palin "fucking retarded" (as satire, of course).

For the record, my younger brother has downs syndrome, and he KNOWS damn well what "retard" means, and would punch Kate in the fucking mouth if she uttered that word in his direction.

I've seen his feelings hurt when he's heard that term before. But I didn't really need to say that to illustrate just how ignorant a certain insufferable twat is, do I?

I know you can't see Kate's feelings hurt when you call her a twat, and you may not care, but you're in a better position to educate someone on this issue than to call someone hurtful names. Ignorant people require teaching so that they can know better. Cruelty is not the answer.

Cruelty may not the answer, but it is the human condition.

A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.

So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee.

Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?

If she can honestly sit there and have her fucking feelings hurt by being called a twat, and still turn around and be goddamned dense enough to not get that calling somebody with Downs a "retard" is equally, if not more insulting then fuck her and anybody who defends her stupid ass.

And he made almost the EXACT fucking same point I did. It is fine to call ideas, dumb statements, silly acts retarded.

But for christ sakes, is it poor form to call someone with a mental disability a "retard".

I agree it's stupid to call people with Down syndrome 'retards.' You obviously call them Mongoloids.

He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

finally we agree........whatever.

At the end of the day it's all moot since these retards can't read what Kate is writing anyway.
I disagree, I think there are plenty of fucking retards on the CHUD boards. I just don't think any of them are truely mentally disabled.

Only a shallow person would be bothered by the mentally disabled in their presence. Also, they generally don't put kids with Downs or worse in the classroom, but in a special program on the campus.
I am returning to post exactly one more thing on this thread.

No, Cameron, I have no problem with anyone exercising their right to a public education. Wheel chair or arm chair, it does not matter. My problem was that our school district was wasting these kids time (because they were not being educated) and wasting money doing it.

I never said or implied that I was "bothered" by the presence of people with mental issues. I said that I was angry the school was shafting them

My daughter is developmentally disabled. She was born a "blue baby", having a lack of oxygen at birth due to a placental abruption that led to an emergency C-section. She's kind of slow, and isn't up to other kids of her age (4). So what's my opinion on the usage of the R word?

I think it's contextual, and the exact opposite of what PK has been claiming - to use it in regards to someone of perfectly normal mentality saying or doing something ridiculous is perfectly appropriate, and even funny. Hell, when I heard that Rahm Emanuel called some liberal activists "fucking retards" I wanted to give him a high five; he's speaking my language. But referring to actual mentally disabled ppl as retarded is a little too rough, considering its implications - it's become a put-down completely divorced from its original definition, much like when you say "geek" you don't mean some guy at the bottom of a pit in a sideshow biting the heads off of chickens. It's entirely a matter of usage and how it's directed.

I just wanted to let you know I totally respect your position on this. I disagree but it doesn't mean I think you are "Wrong"

I just saw Blood simple... this dialogue gave me itches...

Abby: He took me to a psychiatrist one time, to calm me down... the psychiatrist said I was the healthiest person he'd ever talked to, so Marty fired him.
Ray: I don't think you can fire a psychiatrist, 'zactly.
Abby: Well I never saw him again, I can tell you that.
