Ya think Oprah will make a public apology and Jenny McCarthy will admit she monumentally fucked up?

Neither do I.

"We fully retract this paper from the published record."

The internet says "Good luck with that."

Too little, too late. I find myself agreeing with Rain Dog -- unless Oprah and McCarthy make repeated public apologies for peddling this dangerous bullshit, which has put children's lives at risk -- this is going to go quietly and go ignored.

I lol at this notion.

They made a bunch of money peddling holistic bullshit. They're not giving that money back.

I think a major problem is that most people now don't know what it was like in the pre-vaccine era.

Things like people needing to spend most of the rest of their lives in iron lungs to help them to breathe because of polio and the deaths that came from smallpox and measles just for starters. I just don't think enough people know how bad things used to be before widescale vaccination.

It's thanks to this man that at least tens of millions of lives have been saved and the life expectancy of Americans was increased by decades.

Bullshit. This is just the medical establishment and big pharma fighting the truth. Oprah knows better.

I say fuck vaccines. Drop them outright. The subsequent drop of a couple of decades in life expectancy will unclog social security systems worldwide. Have each parent lose at least one kid to disease. Adversity will make them better people. My grandmother lost one kid to smallpox and one to measles. She turned out alright.

Can't believe you had public figureheads regurgitating this crap over there. Oprah should be ashamed of herself.

It was just as bad in the UK with it being on the front of every tabloid for months, Tony Blair refusing to say if his kid had it etc.

I bet this won't be on the front page of The Daily Mail like the original story and this whole thing is a graphic illustration of why science and the tabloids don't mix. Even now there is still a massive distrust of this and other vaccines because of this twat and what the scaremongering media cooked up. He shouldn't just be struck off, he should be inside.

I say Jenny McCarthy releases a sex tape as an apology.

Only if they're retroactive sex tapes from ten years ago.

I think anybody that listened to Jenny McCarthy for parenting advice in the first place should probably have been sterilized long ago anyway.

I'm not an expert in this field at all, but there are allegations that the GMC hearing was less than objective, and excluded a substantial tranche of Wakefield witnesses.

McCarthy/Winfrey- idiots, and reckless.
Wakefield at least tried to apply scientific method to this.

And my son HAS been vaccinated, because I am personally sceptical of the Wakefield claims.

Mmmmm. . . . I'd still watch a current one. Unless it was with Jim Carrey. I fucking LOATHE Jim Carrey. Watching him bang even a past Playmate of the year would be the absolute pits.

Come on, how great would it be to see Carrey to go down on her, and then immediately pop back and say, "Do NOT go in there! WOOOOOO!!!!!"

And speaking of the couple, I finally watched the Family Guy from Sunday. I think the line was, "Sometimes these crazy chicks find a guy that's even more insane then they are." Then they showed a picture of McCarthy and Carrey.

During one of our childbirth/parenting classes someone started grilling the instructor regarding the safety of immunizations. Despite the instructor, a second nurse observing the class and everyone in attendance pleas to get their child immunized, this on mother said "we'll think about it."

The lesson: Oprah is God.

I've told my brother and my sister that I'd stop talking to them if they bought into this nonsense and didn't give their kids the proper vaccines. And I mean it. I can't believe this bullshit actually reached Greece.

One of the chiropractors I used to go see didn't want to get his kids vaccinated because they were so into the whole "keeping your spine aligned fixes everything else" angle. I put chiros in two categories: The one I just mentioned where it's a way of life, and the others who are like doctors, so to speak. As soon as they started in with this stuff, I decided to change to a different chiro.

I once came across two people (as patients) in their teens no less while at work in the same week who'd never been vaccinated (thanks to their parents - or should that be no thanks to their parents?). Even coming across one person not vaccinated is approaching being-struck-by-lightning-status (at least where I am). As best as I can remember, I did get at least one of them to agree to a tetanus shot.

Having also seen what happens to people who have gotten tetanus: needing intubation, ventilation, ultimately a long term tracheotomy and a year in hospital - that's at least one vaccination you don't want to miss.
