Breaking Bad - Season 3 - Page 2

As a bonus, if you look at the caption directly above the article, the producer of a live, televised, Telly Savalas-hosted opening of a Titanic safe says, "We're going to open the safe, but we're not going to exploit it."

I think a day will come where the smart play for Walt is to kill Jesse, Maybe he'll want to turn himself in or something.
i think the major tragedy of the series won't be Walt's downfall, but Jesse's.

"Meanwhile, there are other fish in the sea. You don't even know what's out there now. The Czech Republic. Thailand. Those girls are happy just to be here."

Give Odenkirk a spin-off show now!
That pizza toss was epic. How could they have planned that?
HAHAHAHA, the cut to Walt and his pepper-sprayed eyes.

Odenkirk was top-notch, also great to see both Mark Margolis and Jonathan Banks show up again.

The Lession: Don't fuck with Gus' money.
Great, great episode. The furious pizza toss was absolutely hilarious. As was the jump cut to a pepper-sprayed Walt. And the last 15, nail-bitingly tense. Walt's unabashed hypocrisy during his indignant traffic stop rant really showed how in denial he is, esp. juxtaposed with his disgusted reaction to the self-pity and whining during the school assembly last week.

Of all the characters on the show, is Walter Junior the only one not "breaking bad"? Kinda makes me think he's doomed.
I really enjoyed the "in your fucking face" to Jesse's parents'.

Glad to see Odenkirk back, he plays a great skeevy attorney for hire.

I have a feeling this season's not going to end well for anyone.
Odenkirk was beyond great in this episode. And I like the new Jesse. He seems like less on an idiot since he's embraced his inner bad guy.

Gotta chime in the the Odenkirk love as well. The guy is an obvious sleazebag, but he's an entertaining as hell sleazebag.

You've gotta wonder just how powerful Gus is if he has that much sway with the Mexican cartels. I can't wait to see where they take that plot point.
Anna Gunn reminds me of an Amazon version of Gillian Anderson.

And I like it.

I was also flabbergasted by the pizza toss, and spent way too long trying to figure out how in the world they could have done it until finally just giving up. I'd love to find out someday that it was a happy accident.

Odenkirk rules. LOVED Walt being stared at by the eye on top of his clothes -- very creepy. Loved the killers at the nursing home. Loved Hank trying to bring normalcy to the dinner table with the sushi line.

Definitely firing on all cylinders.
It was a happy accident. Cranston just managed to do it first time. The man is a winner.

Yes! Cranston did it on his own!

Source.

Our special effects expert did indeed work up some mechanism for getting the pizza out of the box and onto the roof, using fishline or somesuch. However, to the best of my knowledge, his rig was never used. What you see in the finished episode is take one, in which Bryan basically just did a Hail Mary toss and got it up there in one try!

I figured it was a fluke accident as well... until they kept referring to it. The wife's angry message and the guy from Wiseguy staring at it on his way to install the spying equipment... it sure seems like it was part of the script.

Was it a CG pizza? Is Cranston secretly an expert at the discus? I'm baffled. A great episode, and all I could think about was after was the damned pizza.

ETA: You guys are fast! So now I know. If I ever want something on my roof, I'm writing Bryan Cranston.

The toss was great, but the abnormally large novelty pizza box made the scene for me.
I loved how in later shots, the pepperoni and cheese were starting to slide down the crust. Gravity! And now I'm hungry.

Plus the fact that it wasn't even sliced.
Maybe Walt requested no slicing in the hopes of presenting some kind of metaphor to Skyler, like "the whole of this giant pizza is the whole of our great big love." Or maybe it was just easier to toss onto a roof intact and in one take if weren't sliced, ha.

(Loved the bits of Walt grooming before taking Walt Jr. home.)

Skyler's boss is a creepy weirdo.

Well he was trying to get her to have a slice of pizza with him. Maybe he was trying to prolong the visit by having it be a giant slice.
The other funny LOL moment was a hungover, naked Walt doing a slow burn to anger while listening to Skyler's answering machine message.

"Restrain this!"

Not to threadjack, but I am a breaking bad virgin and based on everything I have heard, it's time to Netflix season One and two and spend a weekend catching up. I shall be back here next week and hope to join the conversation.
You won't regret it. Best show going.
The only thing I didn't like in this last episode was the ouija board. It was a great idea to get the information from Tio, but seeing that amongst the puzzles on a bookshelf in a rest home...ain't no way.
• Walt's flinging of the pizza onto the garage roof seemed so impressive that I asked Vince Gilligan if there was any special work by the crew to aid its flight. Here's what he said:

Agree with everyone that it was a great episode. Maybe even better than the first one. Pizza Toss was one for the history books.

It was funny how Walt thought that slapping on some cologne and buying a pizza would smooth over the fact that he'd been hiding a second life as a meth manufacturer.

I wonder which will crack first: Walt's denial or Jesse's acceptance?

Is Sky any better at this point? She was verging on an affair before things fell apart, and now she's helping her boss cook the books (hey look, there's that cooking thing again!). Her only validation? It's what she needs to do in order to take care of the family (sounds familiar). The fact that she's refusing to sign off on things doesn't clear her. She's the one telling the boss how to get away with it.

Walt isn't the only one breaking bad.

Well, yeah.

I usually empathize with the male protagonist (gender bias), and I didn't really care for her character in seasons 1 and 2 (most of the time she seemed like a plot device instead of a person), but he hid a double-life as a meth manufacturer, dealer and kingpin. He also hid half a million bucks. Not to mention the other stuff Walt's pulled unrelated to the marriage.

Even so, his inability to see the depths of his betrayal is his darkest trait. Thinking a clean shave and a pizza would smooth things over is just lunacy. His wife may not be an angel, but they've done an excellent job of turning her from an antagonist (I know I was rooting for Walt to get away with his schemes) into a very sympathetic character.

I'd say they made her sympathetic, and then blew right on past that. She was sympathetic when she was being kept in the dark and endlessly supporting her husband, because she was in the right. She quickly moved to a position of relative control and immediately slid down the slope to begin making moral decisions nearly identical to Walt's.

I'm one of the fans that thinks the plane crash was ill-handled(I get, and like, the theme of it), but damn, those ribbons are doing some jedi mind trick in making me accept it.

I love this show.

The origin of the Trejo Turtle Bomb revealed!
I was worried they wouldn't have Skyler say fuck. The scene wouldn't have worked nearly as well without that.

Next week looks pretty crazy.
Yeah, I knew those were the words she needed to say and wasn't sure if AMC was going to do that. Even if it was just "f--ked" and not fucked (though as far as I know they can't get in trouble with the FCC. Obviously South Park has done it before. Would their advertisers have been bothered given the shows subject matter?) it was better than her saying "screwed" or "had sex with" or "slept with."
They really know how to open the show.

Yeah, that 'fucked' was necessary. Even with a few letters missing. Yet another winner of an episode.
That was some cold shit from Skylar. Picking that salad bowl up with that evil intent in her eyes, dropping the bomb and then sitting down with the boys like everything was normal. Walt had actually manipulated everything to a point where he actually had what he wanted in some bizarre way, but he sure looked neutered in the kitchen.
I still find it utterly amazing that you can have severed heads, brutal violence, drug use, drug manufacturing, scenes of a sexual nature, all the adult things this show has ever done, but you can't say "fuck".

Messed up.

Awesome episode.

Which was a response to Walt ignoring her wishes and making grilled cheese with Walt Jr. It's like an awesome tennis match, except they're hitting a grenade back and forth.

I am curious to see where they go with it because right now the tension is so thick it almost cannot be sustained for the rest of the season. Will it blow up or will something happen to defuse it temporarily?
So where do we go from here? Jesse obviously is going back to cooking but I'm not sure how he's gonna lure Walt back. Will Gus force his hand?
Gotta wonder if there's more behind Skyler's f--king of Ted than just an "Eat that, Walt!"

Ted's rich. And how can Skyler pay all the bills and college funds, etc., with Walt gone? So I kept wondering if Skyler wasn't also doing Ted as a "How far can I go to survive if I don't accept Walt's drug money" test run. If this episode had a winner, it's Ted.

I hope Mondo Tees will let me buy am "I.F.T." shirt soon.

This is the best show on television.

I'm passing the torch.

okay walt, time to bang the hot principal
post #96 of 580
Well, this was an interesting weekend.

Not having seen IFT yet and after a marathon session (I finished S3E2 at 2 AM this morning), all I can say for now is, wow!

I would like to offer a prediction for this season. I predict Walter Jr to be caught in the crossfire, and I do not mean from the divorce. Things will end badly for the White family and unfortunately I think the son will die.

More thoughts coming soon.

Of course there is. She's trying to assert control the only way she knows how, the last piece of leverage she has left.

Exactly. She's tried being polite to Walt, and that didn't work. She's approached him like an adult, no dice. She'd threatened him, nothing. She's called the cops on him, nothing.

She needed a way to make Walt realize things would never be the same. And she did. God help Ted though.
While Walt was explaining his reasons for his criminal acts to Skylar, I thought "Just go ahead and give Cranston a 3rd Emmy."

When Skylar said, "I fucked Ted.", I thought "You know what? Give Anna Gunn one, too."

Excellent episode for the domestic front.
