You really hit the ground running, mate. Can't wait to hear this get better and better.
I'm totally going to have to check this out when I get a free evening, Hock.
Fuck yes! I'm totally listening to this when I get off work! Congrats, Captain Hocken!

I identified greatly with your sister's comments on vegetarianism. I got into it and out of it for much the reasons, and if you swapped "salad" or "vegetable wrap" with "identical, boring veggie burgers", that was pretty much my experience with dining out sans slaughter. Delicious, satisfying slaughter. That's very much a product of the comparatively poor options available for veggies in this part of the world, though.*

"Christophey" just got added to the official list of acceptable Christophe monikers.

* That said, Boston was a big eye-opener. With the exception of one or two occasions, it was pretty much exactly the same situation as home for food.

There are vegan restaurants in LA but I have no idea what the cost of such places are.

It just seems so much work to create a fake meat product. Jim Gaffigan said it best that vegitarians are obessed with meat even though they don't eat it.
To be fair to them, though, the whole concept of a "main", a meat style or shaped product around which to base a meal is a pretty gaping void to fill.

Apparently Native Foods in Westwood is a pretty popular place, and their prices seem to be about the same as most restaurants that serve meat. I'm not a vegetarian/vegan at all (GIVE ME DELICIOUS STEAK), but it can't be too horribly expensive of a lifestyle.

EDIT: And to Bobby's point about gaping voids, I had Boca burgers once and had the most debilitating case of nausea and the shits that I've ever had in my life. I don't know if that's just a symptom of me not being totally used to something like that or just a bad batch, but jesus I wanted to die.

Morningstar Grillers, folks. They're the bob-omb.

Rough stuff, Jake. My worst veggie burger experience by some distance came courtesy of Nando's. Before going to see Control, I went there for dinner with a friend. The food was great, as was everything else, until the film began.

It became pretty clear early on that something was amiss in my stomach. I tried to do everything in my power to counteract this whilst seated (mints were about all I had at my disposal.) The mints were inadequate and around ten minutes before the end of the film the pain in my stomach was at risk of turning into a full-blown vomit shower over the rows directly in front.

I quickly and awkwardly bolted for the gents (those familiar with Manchester's Cornerhouse Cinema will appreciate how disruptive this can be in any of its small theaters) where I proceeded to immediately and dramatically hurl a technicolor nightmare all over the sink and surrounding area, as well as some in one of the cubicle toilets.

After the pain and shock subsided, I felt tremendous. Less so about the mess (I did what I could in my wounded state.) By the time I returned to my seat, the film was over. To this day, the very mention or sight of the name Nando's is enough to inspire great jesting from my friend.

Ha!
Nandos. What a night that was.

My meal was fine. And I saw the film to the end.
(Spoiler: He snuffed it).

How sorry did I sound about the state of the sink? Scale of 1-10. 10 being "please, not the face!"

I did catch the end of the film on TV, years later. It wasn't worth the wait, only further underlining the overwhelming inconvenience of that evening.

See how long you'd been away from the boards, man? You reduced me to saying "a friend."

If I remember rightly, you were all but 'demanding' (insofar as that is (not) possible by you) that they allow you to get some cleaning products to finish up your hasty cleansing of the aftermath. That kind woman declined. Though, that was before she'd seen what you'd left in there. For all I know, (not having actually seen said vomitorium), she could have put a hit out on you for leaving conjealed 'chicken' chunks betwixt the tiles as we swanned off into the night.

You're right though, the film isn't all that.
Vomitorium is right! Even for a gorehound such as yourself, it's better you didn't see it.

The show is now on iTunes. Just type in Ed Hocken and it's all there for you to see.

Plus, expect a new episode early next week.

Ed, you're far too good looking to be doing a radio show.
Psst. I'm actually on that cast too.

Thanks a lot Captain, any praise is good praise in my book.

Still, there are too many douchebag vloggers out there. And they are all 14. 'Cept for the Kid from Brooklyn.

Still, if you love the show. Leave a voicemail, I'd love to hear it.

And how is he going to call if he don't know the number, Mr. Ed Fail Hocken?

Maybe, that was a deliberate attempt to entice readers into listening to the show? Which is really good, by the way.

By getting them to leave a message for Ed to listen to? *shrugs* If it works, then it works. Still that VM number should be posted here. Hell, I'll be a nice guy and do it for him.

Maybe Ed saw elsewhere how depressing it is when contact details (like email addresses) are posted repeatedly and yield no mail/voicemails/etc?

I agree with you and it's nice that you posted it. Ed has no reason to worry with his fine show. Your ears deserve it, reader. Whoever you are.

Subtle hint taken. Expect something soon.

A bumper delivery of thanks to you, sir.

Hope Ed isn't mad my rant (which was honestly just taking an irresistible joke set-up) turned into cross-thread pimping. I very much look forward to his views on the Warped Tour. One Davey Havok reference, at least, is what I'm hoping for.

I have a feeling the next show's going to be about the horrors of jury duty.
That makes me even sadder I couldn't find a V-Neck cake photo for that birthday post.
