Yeah, and I can see why. I've fought two bases full of floating guns already and I'm not even 3 hours into this thing. Otherwise, pretty fun.
I need to stop trying to 100% every place or I'll die playing this game. But this stupid fucking number under the mini-map is such an asshole. Just siting there judging me for being sloppy. I need to find a mod that removes it.
Same here, Stelios...weird how GTA games bore me, but this is consuming me.
I assume you too get pissed out like hell when you reach 82% on a location and that last upgrade box is impossible to find?
That DLC cant come fast enough, dammit.
I was wondering what the DLC was going to be, until I came across this trailer. That air cannon could be a great new toy.

I've been damn tempted to pick this game up, but was wondering what the save system was like. Is it one of those that you can pretty much save at any point? If so, this looks like the perfect game to horse around with for those small chunks of time that I get to blow crap up.
On the PC you can pretty much save whenever you want. The autosaves are pretty good too. I haven't been forced to replay more than a couple of minutes yet.

This game is great. Such joy and fun to be had. But, i have no clue what to do.

I started yesterday, played a couple of missions, then got released into the island and approached one of the factions. Did one takeover. And i've been driving around the island for hours trying to find a next mission or contact or something. This is driving me insane. And i always start to fuck around with the environment and end up dead haha.

I need some kind of path! What do i do?
Just pull up your map sir, it'll have big fancy icons for the major storyline/faction missions available to you. Pick one (highlight) and you can set a waypoint to it, then just drive/fly/grapple your ass over and take care of bidness.

Of course, even when I do that I end up fucking around with everything between here and there and die 3 times/waste several hours blowing shit up.
...and if you don't see any fancy icons on the map, just head over to any one of the million little dots on it and start blowing crap up. A lot of the story missions won't open up until you fill the chaos meters.

Flying planes is a royal pain for me, but coming across some of those armed choppers is a helluva lot of fun. I was just hanging off one military base about 1.5km out and strafing it with machine gun fire. I swear there were secondary explosions going off for a couple minutes.

Anyone pick up the rocket chute DLC?

ETA: Oh yeah, whoever mentioned that space program mission ('Fry Me to the Moon'?)... holy shit, that was awesome.
By now I've caused so much chaos I can't even walk by a soldier without three armed choppers jumping on me in 30 seconds. I'm just this moving disaster area. I have to hide in the woods otherwise it's pretty much World War 3 all the time.
Just got over 50% in mercenary mode. I was messing around in the game for so long just destroying military bases that I had enough to unlock all of the Agency missions without even realizing it. Played through & beat the game after that in about an hour or so...

The mission to the 'Lost' island is a pretty good one, too. Seems like the Ular missions are the most varied, at least so far...

The chute would have been better if they didn't make you buy it every time you reload a save - they treat it as a regular vehicle, even though it's listed as equipment. The vehicle purchase process in this game is idiotic.
I still miss walking up to nazi's and lighting tnt at their feet, but this game has so much more to do.

Went from mountain base to mountain base laying waste with a stolen helicopter. Crashed a jumbo jet into an oil rig. Think I'll be spending a lot of time seeing where I can take the jumbo jet.

Now I'm trying to bail out of a helicopter and let it freefall - and then re-enter it, so far unsuccessful because the spinning copter disconnects me from vehicle before I can enter the pilot seat again. I think maybe next I'll tether a car or bike to a helicopter. Get as high as I can and see if I can get inside the car/drivers seat of a falling vehicle instead.
Speaking of helicopters, here's one annoying design decision I only noticed too late in the game: Once you take over an airport or base with a helipad, you tend to lose access to its vehicles. In the early game, I recall there being a few friendly bases with respawning helicopters, but after taking over a ton of military airports, nearly every helipad or airstrip is barren. This forces me to waste precious resources at the SLOOATH DEMON's overpriced vehicle mart.

It makes logical sense, but for a game that prides itself on making so little sense, it's counterintuitive.
Thanks for the heads up. I always go to that one airstrip 3 settlements south of the starter home for air transport. If it's going to dry up upon conquering I'll leave it be.
Really? All I've been doing is taking out random bases around the latest Ular base takeover (where your saves automatically take you) and pick up a chopper there. Does that change later on? I'm actually more pissed right now that the current base I start out at has no air transportation or weapon crates of any sort. The first five minutes of any game involves me calling in SLOOTH to transport my ass to a decent start point.
I think there are a few bases that consistently have choppers. The military bases with jets seem to dry up, though. I've taken over every airport and I can't remember the last time I saw a jet up for grabs.

This game is so much fun. I think i'm only 10% finished. And holy shit this is gigantor.
Don't let the percentage fool you. It does have a good 20 hours of missions, but 80% of the game is collecting boxes.
Picked this up for half-price on Steam last night, and just played through the introductory scenario. What a gorgeous game! The demo really didn't do it justice.
Yeah, I just installed a free copy I got from a friend. Funtimes, indeed. I enjoyed blowing the hell out of things with that gun turret in the first base. Also, it was somewhat reminiscent of the INCEPTION snowbase, so that was cool.
Love playing this just to kill time, or try some outrageous stuff. Almost embarrassed to admit it, but on Normal mercenary mode I have 99.45% of the game complete...
Luckily for you, only people who have played the game a lot know exactly how OCD that is!
I'm shocked he was able to complete those horrendous plane races. WayDen is The Wizard of Just Cause 2.
The plane races made me sad
The only time I ever bother with races in a sandbox game is if they're required for a mission. Just not my cup o' tea.
Same here. They're the ultimate "Let's shoehorn this shit into the game because we have all these roads lying around" design decision.

I know it. I played all the way through to about 80% or so, and then my roommate picked it up and wanted to finish it off. Between the two of us it turned into an OCD mission that is still ongoing.

I did complete the race with the harrier jet, but all of the races say "you must complete this with a flying vehicle". So I didn't use a plane on about 4 or 5 of them.

Most of the car races were like that, but some actually took me to parts of the map that I hadn't explored before - cool little backroad areas with a ton a ramps, etc. And the boat races for the most part were pretty great - having to jump over islands, but not too high because of overhead bridges. And getting the boat to fully submerge underwater after the jumps felt like something right out of James Bond...
I really wish they'd fix the stupid store in the next DLC.

The prices are ridiculous. They encourage us to buy vehicles...yet completely discourage us by making them so damn expensive. You'd have to do 5 boring ass races to afford a decent chopper.

And the price for them to drop a gun alone...omg. It makes no sense. In Mercenaries 1 and 2, the price for drops was low enough so that you could drop any vehicle/equipment when you needed it and it wouldn't even break the bank. In fact, the amount of money you get for completing a mission overshadows the cost of a rescue chopper so you could finish the mission. If you order the cheapest lame chopper in Just Cause 2, you have to do 4 missions just to make up the cost of using it for ONE mission. Wtf.
The Just Cause 2 races are mostly pretty easy and fun. As Wayden noted, the boat races in particular are a blast. The only ones I absolutely avoided were the skydiving ones. I just can't control a falling body, it appears.

I was having enough fun with the sandbox that I eventually got every last achievement in JC2, which is a rarity for me... But getting to 75% complete for that last achievement was way more work than it sounds like. So I know WayDen must have a truly ugly Time Played stat. Good luck hunting down the last few unmarked items for 100%, bud.

Great achievement list, btw. No soul-crushing tedium that seems to infect most lists - even the collections are very forgiving. Stuff like flying under a bunch of bridges is worth doing for the fun value alone... although I did roll my grounded plane through the last 2.

Jesus. What's the hour count on the save screen?

Check youtube for easter egg hints. Some weird stuff lying around.

LOVED the bizarre WW2 electrical towers on Lost island.

Just checked it.

155 hours.

And I get out! I swear!
Got sucked back into this. That clip of the Superman Mod reeled me right back in and is so god damned awesome I lost yesterday afternoon to flying around terrorizing the island. Not many games where you can be in a heated firefight, blowing up fuel tanks and large cranes, jump up into the sky to hijack a helicopter, lay waste to everything with the helicopters guns and missiles, spy a small engine plane approaching, jump out of the helicopter flying to it dangle for a bit and then unceremoniously toss the poor girl out seeing her fall way down to death, fly around, line up the plane to hit the dictator's statue, and then make a get away with some poor dude's bike.

I have not laughed or enjoyed gaming on this level for quite some time. Going apeshit in RDR comes close, but it's been awhile since I've unleashed the asshole within. Nearly four hours of just fucking around and haven't touched any of the faction introductory missions.
So I figure this is cheap now. Might have to get in on it, although I was pretty satisfied just by the demo(which stayed on my Xbox for months).

Haha, I just hit that number in Fallout 3.

Okay, so I had this game on Steam but was unable to play it because my video card was more outdate than I thought.  I just upgraded my computer a few weeks ago and last night finally remembered I had this on Steam and downloaded it.

Oh my God, that Xbox demo didn't do this justice in the slightest.  Why in the world didn't they make the demo the very first mission where you have to grab the documents that fell out of the helicopter?  That was 10x more fun than anything in the demo was and did a great job of slowly introducing your abilities.

I apparently have all the DLC, and spent the cash from the first missions (once I could access the Black Market) to buy Rico's signature guns.  They're fun as all hell, but I got low on ammo and didn't seem to be picking any up.  Looked it up on the wiki, and you have to buy another gun from the Black Market just to reload ammo?  What kind of sense does that make?  Not a big deal at the end of the day I guess, I played an hour and a half and had an absolute blast, but it makes me shy away from the Black Market as everything there is a ton of money and I don't want to spend my money on a gun I get to have fun with for a half hour.
