Tales From the Darkside

I remember Sci-Fi Channel played this on and off - usually as late-night filler. That opening title sequence always scared the Hell outta me as a kid. That and USA Saturday Nightmares (and the short-films they would play now and then).

Caught some episodes on YouTube recently and the ones I've seen aren't bad. Any fans?

"Mmmman livezzzz...in the SUNlit worllld...of what he beLIEVES to be reALityyyyy...."

Some were great ("A Case Of The Stubborns"); many were terrible. I loved it.

When I was little, the opening musical cue--along with this narration--was enough to send me running out of the room. Of couse, I'd inevitably creep back in and watch from between the hands covering my eyes.

I'm a sucker for horror anthology shows/movies, and I have the same sci-fi channel rerun memories, so yeah. It's been a long time though so I don't really remember any episodes too clearly until other people start talking about them. It still pops up on... ugh... SyFy from time to time, or maybe some other cable channel, so I've caught a couple episodes recently and although the quality definitely varies a lot I still like it. Gotta check out the first two seasons on DVD soon.

This was my favorite. Only recently realized it had Christian Slater in it.

The opening music always scared me as well. Chiller shows later episodes on their channel as well, and they're almost always unintentionally hilarious.

Good call on "Case of the Stubborns" ... I recall one which involved a monster under the bed, and there was a shot of the monster's hand swiping and barely missing someone's ankle. Gave me the willies for years.

EDIT: I think this may be the ep I was referring to, "Inside the Closet," directed by Tom Savini.

The one that always stuck out was Baker's Dozen. Especially that ending with the guy being crushed to death in the shower and the voodoo witch being eaten alive by the rat.

EDIT: Anyone else remember this short film? Living Dolls.

The Cutty Black Sow!

I think I saw one of the first episodes...this haut chick starts to suspect her Handsome Bohunk neighbor is a vampire, and plans to kill him with a wooden stake and a cross....only to learn at the end of the episode that he is not a vampire, but a werewolf! Oh Snap!

That's my favorite ep. Granpa is a perfect analogy for the GOP.

I remember liking this one quite a bit as well.

And Brent Spiner as the pastor...Reverend Data

Does anybody remember an episode where an alcoholic tries to stop drinking by going to a man who says he can cure him...he puts some kind of worm/creature in the man's stomach and the man has to survive it...I can't remember if it's Tales From The Dark Side or The Twilight Zone (80s), or what, but I only remember bits and pieces of this and have been racking the brain trying to find it.

That's "The Hellgramite Method" from the third season of The 80s Twilight Zone.

Another one of my favorites. I forgot all about Seth Green being in this one... Monsters In My Bedroom.

Thank you!

How bout the one with the little boy left home alone to watch over his (obviously demonic) grandmother? That might also be from the 80s Twilight Zone though
post #18 of 31
Yeah, that's "Gramma" also from the 80s Twilight Zone, was one of the ones adapted from a Stephen King story if I'm not mistaken.

The only reason I know these is that my family has every episode of The Twilight Zone ever on some format, so I've seen them all at least once or twice.

As for Tales from the Darkside, I've watched it occasionally when they rerun on it SciFi. Not a bad show, but not one I ever particularly got into.

The intro to Tales is still creepy after all these years, but the episodes themselves are pretty hit or miss.

I think The Ben Stiller Show summed up the series best with their "Low Budget Tales of Cliched Horror" sketch.

Hated the show. Tales from the Crypt guy all the way.

And yet oddly have all sorts of love for the movie.

I preferred Trick or Treat, the series pilot, to that one when it came to Tales' Halloween themed episodes. Actually, Trick or Treat is probably my favorite tales episode, period. Had one of the more creepily memorable witches in it.

What's awesome is he was goofing on an episode his dad starred in ("Devil's Advocate").

Watching some of Trick or Treat on youtube. Haven't seen it in ages, but now I know why I always liked it so much. It's basically an entire episode based on an old horror sound effects album.

If you haven't seen Seasons of Belief you're selling yourself short. Most awesome ending ever - "It was...." "DON'T SAY HIS NAME!" "...it wasn't Santa Claus..."

I Can't Help Saying Goodbye and A Choice of Dreams are more Twilight Zoney imo. Still good ones nonetheless.

I was waiting for The Grither to show up.

Also scared hell out of me as a little kid.

For some reason I always got this show mixed up with the 80s Alfred Hitchcock Presents show. They both seemed very, very, similar.

While the majority of these are "no bad deed goes unpunished" supernatural revenge stories, there are a bunch of really creative ones, too. Lifebomb comes to mind. The grandpa's nose one is also a favorite - it came up in conversation with my Dad not so long ago.

I did prefer Monsters, though.

I actually thought the one I was thinking of earlier was entitled Trick or Treat and so I found it before the other one. I like ToT a lot as well.

I hadn't seen that one before. It was awesome and thanks for putting it up, Chavez. E.G. was wonderful in that, and Blaze Berdahl wasn't nearly as excruciating in this as she was in Pet Sematary. I actually enjoyed her/their? performance in this.

Syfy is showing a marathon of this today, and it was kinda fun seeing a young Colm Meaney ("Beetles") and Bradley Whitford ("The Deal") pop up on the show.
