Heinz introduces the iPacket for Ketchup

Ok, it's not really called that, but...it is a re-vamp of the packet design where you can either squirt out the ketchup, or using the packet for dipping. Ingenious! I guess.

This is monumental. I am feeling an unhealthy ammount of joy for something so trivial

Great, extra plastic waste.

My first thought as well.

Yeah, this is dumb. Also, it looks as if it is more expensive to produce, which means fastfood joints are probably going to start being really stingy with them, the way they are with dipping sauces.

Hey, if we can't go back to the moon, we can at least improve our condiment technology.

Oh, we'll be heading back to the moon once we've filled up our landfills with shit like this.

It's actually less waste. It holds more ketchup and the packets are recyclable.

They should just make the packets twice as big. I don't think there is a single person who uses just one packet of ketchup, and it would use slightly less materials in the grand scheme of things.

The packs I saw in Australia were great, it was pretty much impossible to make a mess with them(unless you were trying). Eh, best photo I can find of one: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3543/...d188cd.jpg?v=0

You just fold and squeeze that sucker.

As someone that used to have epic ketchup pack fights as a youngster, I deplore this new technology. They look a lot less likely to burst on impact.

It does seem like less ketchup would go to waste.

Condiment technology still has a ways to go.

[Criswell] I predict... in the future, teeth will be replaced with highly-concentrated, refillable reservoirs of condiments, activated upon a desire for said flavor. [/Criswell]

Saw this on the local news. The think tank actually bought a used minivan to get inside the mind of the soccer mom with kids in the back eating fast food. Yep.

It makes sense. If you're mentally devolved enough to like ketchup you probably need all the help you can get.

Hey now, ketchup has its uses. But if I catch you putting it on a hot dog and you're over the age of ten, there'll be words.
I never understood the big deal with ketchup on a hot dog. Is it an American thing?

Why? I wasn't aware there was a food taboo in doing that.

*quickly eats the rest of a hot dog*

I love that someone can actually be elitist about the condiment they slather on devil's meat. Ketchup, Grey Poupon, mayo, honey, congealed lemur semen, does it really matter when it's going on a hot dog???

ETA: Ketchup and mustard for me, please.

Danny Butterman does not like this news.

Actually Devin, it's not wasteful. How much Ketchup (Catsup?) gets wasted every year by inadequate packets? How many tomatoes are then wasted? How much energy to grow those tomatoes?

This looks to solve the packet problem once and for all

I just hope that Heinz is less stingy with their patents on this than they were on their awesome no spill cap, the best plastic dispenser cap in the world. The sooner this tech comes to the world of soy sauce packets, the better. Finally, a soy sauce packet where I could either dip my sushi or squirt it onto rice (and not get it all over my clothes)

PS The new packets also hold 3x the ammount of Ketchup, so there is less waste already because less packets are needed to season your food

Whataburger's been rocking this shit since forever.

Ketchup on a hot dog seems pretty logical to me, though I tend to prefer barbecue sauce. However, ketchup on pizza is messed up (is it Brazil where everyone does that?).
Keeping the ketchup off my fingers is a pretty stress-inducing activity. I'm glad that Heinz has taken these issues into consideration.

Mustard lovers everywhere couldn't care less.

My first thought when seeing the picture of the packet being squirted on a burger: How tiny is that burger/huge is that packet?

The only reason I opened this thread what to post the Callahan quote. And you beat me to it, punk.
