The 4400

Did a search, didn't find any threads on it.

Anyone remember this show? It used to be on USA a few years ago. It was about 4400 people appearing out of a ball of light. They were missing people from throughout the past 200 years at least. They had no memory of where they had been or how they got here.

Oh, and they all came back with abilities.

So a special division was set up to track them and the show followed two agents as they investigated cases and kept them in line. The public already knew about them so there was a huge divide between people who thought the 4400 were saviors and those that were bigoted assholes and wanted them out of here. So it was like a mix of Fringe/X-Files and Heroes with balls.

While both shows came to a point where a special formula could give anyone abilities, 4400 had the balls to actually have people distributing it to the public. Oh and the added "fuck you" of there being a 50/50 chance whether you'd develop powers or DIE. I don't think it's really a spoiler but they eventually found out the 4400 were abducted and sent back by people in the future and their presence is supposed to alter the future for the good. Though, I think later something else happened and the future was getting worse.

Anyways, it was a pretty good show.

Just scroll down to similar threads.

Had some good stuff but not great. They cut characters because of budget reasons and when they got to an interesting point, Jordan Collier taking a city over, it got cancelled.

I think that all things considered, between the two most recent shows about people with abilities The 4400 > Heroes.

Well I think the only thing that left a bitter taste in my mouth was that whole business with the little girl who turned into a woman with ridiculously powerful abilities. That was handled like shit. But at least when they depowered her, she stayed depowered and didn't flip flop sides every two episodes.

They're 2 Tie-in books that officially continue on the story after the Series Finale.

They're called The 4400: Welcome to Promise City and The 4400: Promises Broken.
