If these were the only films released in the "good old days" then it'd be a different story, but you guys are forgetting that crappy movies have ALWAYS been produced. It is, in fact, a crapshoot to see what will and will not work.

This is the smartest, dead-on comment I've read in quite awhile. I couldn't put it any better, so I won't.
Yeah... gotta love that rockstar surface intelligence. The ratio of 'shit to quality' is always the same... there's no plethora of masterpieces in any generation.

However, more horror films means more shitty horror films and more quality horror films. And up to about ten years ago, there was a fucking deluge of these movies.

Now? Barely a trickle.

Sure, there was lots of crap. But then again, there was fucking silver. And quite a bit of it.

It's a sign of the times that we're left haggling over three or four recent movies on these boards: Jeepers Creepers, The Verbinski Ring, Dagon and Ginger Snaps.

What "deluge" of great (or do you mean just good) horror films are you speaking of. Please tell me. I don't remember the late 80's to early 90's leaving us with a "deluge" (great word!) of classic or even damn good horror films. No better then any other time period, including now.

Actually, there is constant haggling over a whole lot of films. Signs, Frailty and Dog Soldiers join Ring and Dagon as films from 2002 that have got quite a bit of discussion on just how good they are.

As a group we will disagree on what films we like, dislike, deem classic or worst of all time. I've listened for years to how we are in rut for good horror films. I've been a fan since the late 70's and it is always the same. It was so much better ten years ago...
