My understanding is that it is a serious-minded film from actual director Derek Yee, of
VIVA EROTICA and C'EST LA VIE, MON CHERI - so already it's more interesting than usual for Jackie, who usually works with mediocre-at-best directors like Stanley Tong or Benny Chan*. This willingness to work with more interesting directors is IMHO a long overdue move on his part. The forthcoming
LITTLE BIG SOLDIER looks good as well - working with new Mainland director Ding Sheng.
The US trailer for SHINJUKU seen above is a thing of absolute horror and I refuse to link directly to it.

*Benny Chan actually isn't bad when directing projects that don't in any way involve Jackie Chan, such as
BIG BULLET. But something about having Jackie on board as star or producer tends to get lousy results out of him.
