We now have a member named redneckjoe - Page 5

Jesus fucking Christ, why does every goddamn thread about this topic turn into multiple pages of people bitching at each other. This shit is not rocket science.

"Talk more about movies"

"You can't make us, unless you make us"
It's more like "you can't make them unless you make them." Most of the names I recognize on a daily basis seem to enjoy talking about films a great deal.

If every post in this thread that followed along the lines of "you should just order us to do things" or "you should edit/delete posts and forums" or "Devins a big rude meanie" or "we're a bunch of mewling little lambs who simply can't control ourselves so it's your fault for leaving us off topic forums to post in", was instead a post in the Main Forum or Focused Film or Movie Miscellany or Creature Corner or The Franchises or Films in Release or on Video or Foreign Films... well then I reckon we'd be moving towards the solution rather than wallowing in the problem.

The forums are right there guys, they're not hard to find. People want to scream about what a community we are and how we can talk about things other than movies - but as a community of supposed cinephiles, don't you feel just a teensy obligation to try and advance the discussion of the thing you purport to love around here instead or parroting on about what a douch John fucking Mayer is for the umpteenth time?

No ones saying that you can't post about off-topic stuff, but surely there should be some sense from chewers of wanting to keep and help encourage this place to stay what it's been for so long and what supposedly attracted us all in the first place - the best damn movie discussion board on the whole fucking world wide web.

What a first class dipshit.

But don't let a cunt like that put you off still participating on the boards.

And if people can start threads about their favorite brand of beef jerky or instructions on how to properly masturbate to a photograph of Lily Tomlin, on a site that pretty much allows them to do whatever they want for free, then why shouldn't one of the fucking site runners have the right to post a grievance without everyone calling him an asshole?

I wanted to acknowledge the "linking message board threads to the articles" comments by saying that, while I'm not nearly as prolific or comment-sparking of a contributor as Devin, I've provided a message board link for every article I've ever written (or at least 99%).

Even with the links, threads about said articles are still typically pretty pitiful. Comparatively.

Can I just say.... This thread led to the banning of BusterG. For that, we should all be grateful.

Oh, he'll be back i'm sure.. He'll be back.

5 pages of this? Really?

Silver lining.

This is just the way it is. I'm not saying that you're as naive as the paper that I attacked, but I think that both views offer a certain "head in the sand" mentality that completely ignores the way the internet (and people's social behaviors on the internet), actually works.
I'm not even sure what qualifies as off-topic for this thread anymore and I haven't read the NIET paper, but I'd say that message board posting can absolutely help hone one's writing and, particularly, rhetorical ability - if you engage with it seriously, at least.

Doug's next short story will basically be pictures of lolcats and the word "fag" repeated ad nauseam.

It's been really nice chatting with you guys, but between people blaming me for the fact that they don't want to talk movies and now this I've lost a lot of my interest in this topic, or in caring about any of this. There are some changes coming down the pike that will hopefully improve the movie discussion on CHUD, and I'll just patiently wait those out.
He must be one of the Chudies that hate being on the short bus, with PK. Sorry for your lost, I lost my grandmother today, but we knew she was dieing, so I feel your pain. Give me a quick death other a slow death, any time.

It helps mine, but anything would. My writing ability is pretty low to began with. The internet just let people show their true faces easier, then in person.

ok, 5 pages? where is redneckjoe for his take?

Sorry to hear you had a loss in your family Devin. I am not on Facebook, so I had no idea until a troll from this thread used what you said on this thread to attack you on that site. If ever you were looking for a more concrete meta example of what is weird about the boards right now, that whole cycle of action has to qualify.
Echoing what Ludwig said, I've been avoiding this thread so missed the part about your loss. Really sorry to hear that Devin.
I love a good meltdown thread!

Devin's original point was not an official request from the CHUD site runners. It was a personal appeal to the posters on this site. Devin was expressing his opinion, rather than expressing the desired policy of CHUD.com.

Regarding who owes whom what, the short and correct answer is CHUD owes its readers/posters nothing, and CHUD's readers/posters owe CHUD nothing. Nobody is bound by any type of legal, contractual, moral, spiritual, or mob-related agreement here.

Frankly, I'm a bit dumbfounded that anybody is surprised with how an internet forum/community evolves on the internet. This is what happens to forums. It's simply the way of human interaction online. I think it's admirable that this site has posters/contributers who are very passionate about the direction things are taking, but the simple fact of the matter is that forums + time * popularity = more off-topic bullshit, less on-topic quality.

Normally I wouldn't want to resurrect this thread except that I recently was talking with another member over PM and we both had the same complaint: I think that I've sort of had this Epiphany over the past few months but the sad truth is that I now think Devin might be a little right. I like discussing non movie stuff as much as the next person, but the fact of the matter is that I have been posting alot of movie topics lately and there is (at times at least) a frustrating lack of film discussion going on here. At least in the "FILMS IN RELEASE AND ON VIDEO" forum. Now, I'm not just saying that because people are ignoring my posts. I'm saying it because I find it more than a little hard to understand why there were zero replies for STORYTELLING. It seems strange that I'm the only person on the site with something to say about that movie

Maybe everyone discussed STORYTELLING already before I got here and the thread for it got lost in a redesign.. but yeah, I think older movies deserve as much (if not more) love than the JONAH HEX PRE RELEASE THREAD or whatever. It seems like there should be more to say about films that people have seen than to say about films that no one has yet seen

Where is this thread? I've only seen half of that film, but I am interested in Solondz in general.

Here you go

I was just using that as an example though that I felt illustrated the larger point I was trying to make.
Aha, in that particular case I think part of the problem is it's really hard to find in the search - 'Storytelling' inevitably brings up dozens of unrelated threads and as yours doesn't mention the director in the text it doesn't come up if you search for 'Solondz' either.

But yeah the Films in Release or On Video forum is a bit depressing. Though I still believe part of the problem is the way the forum index arrangement leaves 'specific film' threads shoved out of the way and needlessly fragmented across three subforums.

Searching for STORYTELLING brings up one thread (maybe two).

Also, I enjoy all the sub forums but that's just me.
