Halo: Reach - Page 2

Apparently Zavvi really like me. My copy arrived about ten minutes ago. Which was nice.

I did not know that there was a mode just like Bad Company's Gold Rush. Pleasantly surprised.

CHUD MATCH TUESDAY NIGHT. Nick is game, so am I.
Reach is only reason right now I wish I had a 360 as well as my PS3.

I'll be there, aside from the hour I'll have to take off to watch 'Sons'.
What a day. I was either going to get Halo: Reach, or an ipod for working out. I decided to get an ipod, and sure enough, I tore my bicep again last night.
well, I think you're still within the return policy window.

I've started trying to organize a co-op campaign playthrough of this with my friends for next weekend.

People playing this: Genuine, non-trolling query--someone provide 3 reasons to be excited for this that have nothing to do with multiplayer.
Well if there's no Flood, that's one pretty good reason.

1. According to the Kotaku review, the story isn't horrible.
2. I usually find the campaign AI on the higher difficulties to be a fun challenge
3. They have some different varieties of missions this time. Apparently there's a helicopter level and a level in space which should mix it up a little.

How's that?
Gamertag is ZakChase, if anyone wants to add me for this. I'll be on Tuesday night. Reviews are getting me a bit excited.

I'll be on Tuesday night. Gamertag is below.

Mine are chuddotcom and krakenheads but I'm kind of all business on there when it comes to playing games and shit.

If anyone wants a place on the children's table shoot a message over to Thom Marshall, I'm pretty sure we're going to be doing more Firefight than straight up Multiplayer. But we're chatty and sucky and not too disparaging.
ShaolinAfro is my gamertag. Definately would love to get some Chud Firefight matches going. I didn't get Halo 3 on launch day, but I am picking up Reach tonight. With all of the reviews I have read, plus with the videos I have seen - pretty excited!

You know that I'm in as soon as I get the game tomorrow.
Justin, if you define multiplayer as any thing to do with playing other people, that list is going to be pretty thin. I think the campaign is only 9-10 hours on Hardcore. Sure you can replay it with different scoring options, but that's it.

Firefight is a reason. It looks a lot more robust than ODST's firefight mode.

Forge World should be a blast. It's like playing with virtual Legos. Only you can't play with any one else in the giant forts you build.
Well, if there are any UK chewers who don't mind a slightly unhinged Halo player to shoot folks with, hit me up. Seeing as I'm basically newer than baby shit on Xbox Live, it'd be more appreciated than a blowie by Salma Hayek.

Played the first level of the campaign last night on heroic, before getting too tired to go on. First impressions are that it looks great, but you won't really notice how good it looks until you get into a proper firefight. The Covenant weapons and use of lighting are amazing, also the weird motion blur thing is going to take some getting used to.

It's also hard as balls, even on Heroic in co-op.
From the reviews I've read, I like the fact that the amount of enemies scale depending on how many players you have with you in co-op.

Sucks for me though, my 360 Elite is dying. It freezes up and gets the fuzzy glitch screen within minutes of booting up.
Oh yeah, and there's a moment at the end of the first level which almost feels like a homage to the night-vision google firefight from Kick-Ass. Even the music goes a bit John Murphy.
I gotta admit, the overwhelming positivity is starting to get contagious. And a lot more of it is directed at the campaign than I expected.

I'll wait for the good word from you guys, though. As someone who, deep down, kinda misses being excited about this series, I want to believe.
Rented it, just to see if it's really the goods.

Hopefully, I'll be able to shoot one of you in the face later tonight.

What time are you guys going to be on?

I think I feel a migraine coming on and may have to leave work.
Mother fuck. What the fuck is it with fucking Halo games? My campaign comes to a crashing halt yet again as mission 7 will NOT load without a disc read error. Complete mission 6, watch cinema, crash on load screen. Turn off xbox, reload game, go through campaign mission select and load level manually. Crash on load. 4 times.

Same fucking thing with one of the missions in ODST, could never finish the game because I couldn't do anything to get it to load. Brand fucking new game, not so much as a gentle summers breeze has touched the disc surface.
One of my buddies took two days of PAID vacation to play this game today and tomorrow without disturbance. And it was totally worth it according to him.
So....headhunter is possibly the greatest game ever created.
Awesome playing with some of you Chewers this evening. I'm pretty sure that in my sleep tonight I'm going to hear disembodied voices yelling, "Holy shit! It's raining skulls!"

Sorry guys, couldn't get the time for it tonight. Tomorrow (er today, wednesday) I might be able to get some games during the day and possibly at night. Definitely want to get some matches going this week- if not, there's always the weekend.

Hell, I'll be hearing that in my head all day at work today. Those Headhunter matches were freaking insane.
Thank you Craiglist!! Sold a bunch of crap at my place, like a broken ipod, and an old TV, and got enough cash to buy Reach.

Loving the shit out of this game so far. Never played ODST, but the difference between Halo 3, and Reach as far as the campaign mode goes is huge. Halo 3's campaign felt like an afterthought, whereas Reach has some real thought put into it. The controls are great, and I love the updated look of all the weapons, same with the SFX for them.
I think the thing I am going to like the most about Reach is how the different armor abilities allow for different crazy strategies. It's similar to how the backpacks in Red Faction Guerilla always made the multiplayer fun and unpredictable. Now if only the hammer in Halo could also smash through walls...
Halograms are SO MUCH FUN in multiplayer. It's great getting too guys to shoot at a fake you up close and then run with and shotgun them. Makes me feel like I'm in Total Recall.

"HAHAHA You think this it the real Chopsocky? It is!" *blam blam blam*

did the same thing in the campaign.. and when two elites came up with swords, I stuck one of them with a sticky, and shotgunned the other.
Campaign on Heroic seems harder than before. (Or I've gotten worse at gaming.) During the first section, where you have to protect the base while Kat hacks her way into something or other, my deaths were plentiful and often. I only made it to the next checkpoint by barring a doorway with a forklift!

Wait until you get to Legendary...

Shut the fuck up you fuckers! I'm trying to wean myself off my Xbox and have made a point of not buying this and it's fucking killing me reading these positive reviews.

I was in the same boat... getting ready to just get rid of my 360, but I'm so glad I got this. It really is something else, and I haven't even dabbled in multiplayer yet on Live.

I will be joining yall shortly. My son's godfather is sending me his 360. So ready.
Would this be worth buying a used 360 for? Of course it wouldnt be the only game I'd end up buying...but to start it would be this and Forza.

I would say so... it's getting better and better every time I play. Infestation, and that skull game online are a blast to play.
I am just head over heels for this game. One of the things I love is that it is one complete game. Make your spartan and its the same one in campaign, in firefight, in customs, in matchmaking. The matchmaking and firefight maps all come out of the campaign, the medals from matchmaking appear in FF and campaign, variations on the same commendations appear in all three. It's the same experience, just played in a variety of ways. Nifty.
Finally had a chance to post on here....and I am very pleased with Reach so far!!! The matchmaking system is fantastic, and there is a much larger selection of game types. Headhunter is drugs, pure and simple. Those matches always turn into a mad dash for skulls.

Alright, since I cant afford to buy a full-price new 360...I'm gonna start looking for a cheap used one.

Imagine Halo as the Star Wars saga of gaming. Now pretend Episode III was as good as Empire.

Thats this game.

God damn.
The matchmaking has taken me back to my Junior year in High School in a way Halo 3 never could. Thank you Bungie.
Okay, so I've played about 2/3 of the campaign now, and I have yet to run into a horrible level! The thing keeps moving at a brisk pace, propelling you from one fight to the next, with each encounter having a different flavor from the last. The whole thing is also infused with the feeling that things are going very wrong for Reach and the outcome isn't going to be pretty. Even if you had no idea what Reach was before playing this game, it still does a great job of establishing a feeling of impending doom and desperation pretty much from the get go. All of the missions feel like they go together, rather than being a bunch of various encounters barely strung together.

So far the campaign has gone to so many epic, badass places that I can't wait to see where it ends up.
Man, the campaign is so awesome it's unreal. Probably my favourite Halo levels since the original and I'm only just over halfway through. Loved the space combat level, any other game would have split that thing into three different levels, Reach just went epic.

That's the thing, it keeps defying my expectations. I expect a level to peter out and suddenly you've got an insane last stand, I expect the plot to be an annoyance and suddenly Halo has decent dialogue and actually likeable characters. Loved the stuff with the super carrier.

Oh yeah, and thanks to Polygon, Justin and Nate for putting up with my prattling for like four hours.
Finally got to play it last night. I've hated the first three Halo games. I love Reach.

Anyone else realize that Marlo Stanfield is Emile?
