Oh I dont think he was cheating at all, I think what he did tainted the "honor" of the game. He made USC and the NCAA look bad.

Really sad to see Marshall choke that game away last night. I know everyone says you run the ball with a lead to run down the clock, but I always say the best way to hold a lead is to build it.

It didn't help that they played probably the worst bit of prevent defense I've ever seen. How you allow two 90+ yard drives to beat you I don't know. Probably the depth of West Virginia had something to do with it, but it was like a switch went off and the WV offense that couldn't get out of its own way was suddenly the Greatest Show on Turf.

Today should be a great day of college football. UGA vs South Carolina, Alabama vs Penn State, Michigan vs Notre Dame, Ohio State vs Miami, FSU vs Oklahoma...all good games!

This is a slight derail but I just learned that Time Warner is supposed to be offering ESPN3.com for its subscribers. I pulled it up on the Wii just now and for all intents and purposes it looked like it would have worked but for TWC not being an affiliate internet provider.

Anyone know when this would begin?
I've been checking on it too and haven't seen any dates yet.
I was on the phone waiting for a rep when I typed that.

He said the contract was finalized only a week or two ago and he has received updates that they are working on it but nothing about a firm live date. His personal thoughts were that with it being football season they would have it up and running within the next week or two at the latest.

/end derail

Dreading the UT-Oregon game tonight. Blind optimism fueled me throughout the week, but now that game day is here and I've thought about it? Yeah, UT's doomed. I mean, WE CAN'T EVEN SHOWER fer Chrissake . . .

Florida seems like it's finally getting on track in this third quarter against USF.

Fuck USF. I hope they lose by 80.

Strangely, don't have feelings toward the FSU/OU game. I'd like FSU to win, but I don't expect it. I just would like them to keep advancing and looking better as the season goes on.

EDIT: Oh, and Kansas loses to an FCS team last week then beat Ga. Tech this week? I love college football.
I guess Virginia Tech figured if they're out of the championship picture, they might as well take Boise State's chances with them. James Madison? Really??
This Michigan QB is kind of insane. Sleeper Heisman candidate?

edit: I tivo'd the game so I'm just through the 1st quarter now. He may have shit the bed later for all I know.
Two plays into the end zone at the end of each half by ND, both times they gave nobody a chance to catch the ball. Kelly should have kicked the field goal with Nate Montana in the game. And he should have used a time out when it was patently obvious Michigan wasn't going to run out of time inside the ten. That might have given the Irish a chance at the end there. Too many turnovers (INTs by three different QBs) and Crist missing a bunch of the first half was too much to overcome. But still, they should take away some positives in the loss.

Also: fuck Va. Tech for apparently phoning it in.
Hoo-boy do I like Denard Robinson right now. Guy was responsible for like 500 yards worth of offense. Tate Forcier? Who the hell is that?

Tennessee football this season...

Isn't that the damn truth. Brigham Young gets its lunch handed to them, Georgia has enough penalties and terrible fumble that kills them, and Tennessee plays like that. My ESPN pickem' is shot to hell.

I wonder if the SEC Wall of Invulnerability crumbles this year.

Tennessee soundly outplayed Oregon for nearly the entire duration of a football game. Unfortunately, that's including the hour-plus rain delay and halftime. That second half was brutal. It's gonna be a loooonnnnnnnng season.
They have no depth whatsoever, which is why they probably won't beat any decent teams this season.

I just hope to Christ that Spurrier isn't able to draw from baseball's momentum and make something resembling a run for a national championship at USC. This town is hard enough to deal with just in the everlasting optimism these people have.

Watching them wear down last night was painful. They'll be entertaining for the first quarter of each game, but that'll be it.
Oregon beat a depth-depleted team in the early stages of some massive rebuilding -- it's nothing to write home about, and it's certainly no celebration of the PAC 10's dominance. That's a fucking joke.

How do Tennessee fans feel about Derek Dooley so far?

I think this summed it up.

Dooley brings a lot of class and dignity to Tennessee, but that wont translate to wins. It's concerning that the players just gave up in the 3rd quarter. It'll be interesting to see how shitty Florida plays against them next week, since their whole offense is Jeff Demps.

I'm interested this week to see how FSU reacts after the blowout to OU. Hopefully with BYU making the cross-country trip, the humidity, etc., it will give FSU a bit of an edge. Ponder made this Tebow-esque statement: "I will never have a game like this again." We'll see if it sticks.

Fuck you, Georgia. Woo Pig motherfucking Sooie.
It's not enough that Georgia loses, they must lose in as heartbreaking a way as possible.
When does Florida play a real team that will capitalize on all these bad snaps and fumbles?
Or can defend a fake punt?
Just an amazing touchdown catch by Clemson against Auburn just now. Real end of the year highlight-type stuff.

Too bad they're on the verge of implosion -- as it goes with the ACC.

It's shaping into one hell of a game.

Notre Dame needs to produce a commercial for the university about how they're pushing the boundaries of finding new and innovative ways to give their fan base ulcers.
Oh, and next year Michigan State can plant the flag wherever the fuck they want. They earned it.
That Michigan State play took BALLS beyond BALLS. I was pulling for ND in that game, but you gotta hand it to Michigan State...damn.
God what a horrible day in college football for me. You know it was a bad college football day when the only thing you can say that went well was Ole Miss lost. Going to really suck dealing with LSU fans at work (especially all the ones who never went there, but like to tell me how they are die hard LSU fans: fuck them).

Let's call it now: 'Bama loses to Arkansas this weekend.

Fixed.

I'll call it, but I won't believe it 'til it happens.

Plus their coach had a heart attack after the game.

FSU's defense shows a lot of improvement in the BYU game allowing less than 200 yards of offense, and less than 70 yards in the 2nd half. ACC schedule starts with Wake Forest, who always gives FSU fits, and then at UM the next week. So we shall see what we shall see. Ponder is slowly getting back in the groove after being out for 10 months with his shoulder injury. Hopefully this team only improves as the season progresses, and someone decides to become a down the field threat eventually. Most folks have predicted 9-3...I lean more to 7-5, as I still think they'll lose 1-2 games they really "shouldn't" lose. Jimbo has them moving in the right direction--"fans" that are still dogging the program don't fully understand that the defense is almost 180 degrees different than the old regime, and that will take time for them to get it. One thing is definitely different--they already have 13 sacks this year after 3 games--they had 26 sacks overall last year.
UT isn't very good, but it was nice to see them play the full 4 quarters this game, as opposed to last week.

Re-reading that sentence makes me want a stiff drink.
There's a story out there that the play clock had run down to zero before Michigan State got that fake field goal off.

If they get upset it will be by Florida or South Carolina. With Arkansas, we've all seen this movie before.

It hits zero as they snap the ball. It's on the YouTube video. The play clock on the TV shows 00 and then the ball is snapped. There's usually a second or so delay between when it hits zero and when the refs actually blow the whistle. Plus the refs have their own clock, and there's one in the stadium which you can't see in the video.

Yeah, we've seen the movie, but this edition has an alternate ending. Seriously, though, 'Bama just isn't the invincible behemoth it's been in the last few years. They're going to drop at least one and I suspect it's going to be at the hands of Mallet. Just a hunch.
Yea, I'm not saying Arkansas will win (that's the instant kiss-of-death), but they've never had a QB like Mallet before.

ETA: Of course Mallet was there last year, but at least the game is at home and Mallet has a year of experience under his belt.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNdCbC36Qyk whether or not that's accurate to the actual clock.... but that's clearly at 0 for a full second before the snap. Edit: actually you can see the on-field play clock in the corners of the scoreboard. It hits 0 and the snap happens almost simultaneously.
I think there's more pressure on Arkansas. They've gotten much love from the media, and the game is being set up as a decider for the SEC West in Fayetville. Alabama plays in big games every year, and Arkansas always has trouble with the big game. And Alabama plays better on the road.

Is Alabama invincible? Of course not. I don't really expect them to play these next three games against ranked teams and come out undefeated, but it surely won't be for a lack of talent or depth but inexperience.
Damn, Arkansas made it make look easy on that first drive.
